What Is Trump Doing Wrong

When He Ignored Evidence Of Michael Flynns Meetings With Russia

Former VP Pence: âPresident Trump Is Wrong. I Had No Right To Overturn The Election.â

One of the highest-profile falls from grace of Trumps administration was Michael Flynn. Formerly Trumps national security advisor, Flynn now faces criminal charges for accusations that he lied about contact with Russia before being appointed to the role.

But Trump was apparently warned about Flynn weeks before the adviser was forced to resign and only told vice president Mike Pence about the allegations facing Flynn when a Washington Post exposé on the matter the next day.

When He Removed Protection Status From 59000 Haitians Forcing Them To Return To Disaster

In November 2017, Trump ended a humanitarian programme that had allowed 59,000 Haitians to reside and work in the U.S, as the country still tries to recover from 2010s devastating earthquake, which ripped through its social fabric.

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere money sent back home from ex-pats is a lifeline.

Worse still, in 2020, the forced deportations of Haitians continued during the pandemic, despite human rights activists warning that Trump was essentially exporting coronavirus to a nation that would not be able to cope with an outbreak.

Buying Up His Own Books

Where and when: various, 2016

The dirt:The Daily Beast noticed in FEC filings that the Trump campaign spent more than $55,000 buying his own book Crippled America: How to Make America Great Again. That means Trump used donor money to his campaign to buy a book, sending the cash back to himself. Copies were given to delegates at the Republican National Convention.

The upshot: The maneuver could break FEC rules, campaign expert Paul S. Ryan told the Beast: Its fine for a candidates book to be purchased by his committee, but its impermissible to receive royalties from the publisher … Theres a well established precedent from the FEC that funds from the campaign account cant end up in your own pocket. The Huffington Post also noticed that Trump jacked up rent for campaign offices when he stopped funding his own campaign.

The Many Scandals Of Donald Trump: A Cheat Sheet

One of the women who accused Trump of sexual misconduct has sued him for defamation after he labeled her claims false.

Donald Trump is now president and not just a private citizen, but that doesnt mean hes free of the controversies that dogged him in his former life.

Last week, a few days before Trumps inauguration, the former Apprentice contestant Summer Zervos sued him in New York State, accusing the president of defamation. Zervos, whos represented by the famous lawyer Gloria Allred, was one of the several women who accused Trump of sexual assault or misconduct prior to the election. She claims that he kissed her and pressed his genitals against her nonconsensually. Trump denied those claims, saying all of the women who had accused him had made their stories up. So Zervos sued him for defamation.

I wanted to give Mr. Trump the opportunity to retract his false statements about me and the other women who came forward, she said, as my colleague Nora Kelly reported. She added that she would withdraw the suit if Trump said she had been truthful. That seems unlikely, because a spokeswoman dismissed the suit immediately.

The 2016 presidential campaign saw a long string of stories showing scandals involving Trump, both large and smallfrom questionable business dealings to allegations of sexual assault. While they did not derail his presidential hopes, many of them remain live issues as Trump begins his transition to the White House.

When He Lied About His Inauguration Crowd Sizes

What Trump got wrong on Twitter this week (#2)

Ready to fire Trump and make inauguration crowds great again. https://t.co/v1DkY9X6BN It’s a fair day 1600080222

Size matters to Trump which is why he and his team practised their very first professional gaslighting by insisting that the crowds gathered for his inauguration were the largest ever, despite extensive photographic evidence to the contrary.

Later it emerged a government photographer had even edited photos to make crowds appear bigger, according to a Guardian investigation.

Failure: The Us Economy

Trump often took credit for the robust US economy before the pandemic, ignoring that much of the growth began during the Obama administration.

The US faced one of the worst economic crises in its history under Trump, which was intrinsically linked to his disastrous response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Coronavirus lockdowns in early 2020 and reduced consumer spending led to tens of millions of job losses as whole segments of the economy sputtered. The economy has since begun adding back jobs, but is far from a full recovery as the US struggles to contain the coronavirus and Biden takes over.

Roughly 22 million jobs were lost from February to April. Though nearly half of those jobs have been recovered, the unemployment rate is still at 7.9% . The pre-pandemic unemployment rate was 3.4%.

As Trump left office, the US national debt was at the highest levels since World War II. And US economic growth was set to average just above 0% for Trump’s first term because of the pandemic recession, according to The Washington Post.

Though the economy is still far from recovered, Trump also failed to bring Congress together to pass a second coronavirus stimulus package prior to Election Day as Americans across the country struggled to cover rent and other bills. The GOP-controlled Senate instead prioritized confirming Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, essentially placing the economy and the livelihoods of Americans on the back-burner.

When He Peddled A Conspiracy Theory About Joe Biden And Ukraine

Towards the end of 2019 Trump began spreading and widely debunked conspiracy theory that it was Ukraine and not Russia that had interfered in the 2016 election on behalf of the Democrats.

During an interview onFox News in November 2019, Trump said:

A lot of it, they say, had to do, they say had to with Ukraine. It is very interesting, it is very interesting, they have the server from the DNC. You know, the FBIs never gotten that server. Why did they give it to a Ukrainian company?

He also tried to tie Joe Biden to this theory that linked the former vice presidents son, Hunter due to the work he had done in Ukraine. This led to Trump trying to obtain information on the Bidens from the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, an act that eventually got Trump impeached.

How Trump Damaged Science And Why It Could Take Decades To Recover

People packed in by the thousands, many dressed in red, white and blue and carrying signs reading Four more years and Make America Great Again. They came out during a global pandemic to make a statement, and thats precisely why they assembled shoulder-to-shoulder without masks in a windowless warehouse, creating an ideal environment for the coronavirus to spread.

US President Donald Trumps rally in Henderson, Nevada, on 13 September contravened state health rules, which limit public gatherings to 50 people and require proper social distancing. Trump knew it, and later flaunted the fact that the state authorities failed to stop him. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the president has behaved the same way and refused to follow basic health guidelines at the White House, which is now at the centre of an ongoing outbreak. The president spent 3 days in a hospital after testing positive for COVID-19, and was released on 5 October.

This is not just ineptitude, its sabotage, says Jeffrey Shaman, an epidemiologist at Columbia University in New York City, who has modelled the evolution of the pandemic and how earlier interventions might have saved lives in the United States. He has sabotaged efforts to keep people safe.

Ive never seen such an orchestrated war on the environment or science, says Christine Todd Whitman, who headed the EPA under former Republican president George W. Bush.

Edited A Video To Make It Look Like He Won The Nobel Prize

Pence Commits Republican Heresy Accuses Trump Of Being Wrong On Negating Election Loss

Nearly two months after the election, Trump released a bizarre campaign video, which parodied a beef commercial from the 1990s. If that wasn’t strange enough an image included in the short video featured Trump on the White House balcony with the Israeli prime minister and officials from UAE and Bahrain with a Nobel Peace Prize superimposed on it for no apparent reason at all other than to make it look like he might have actually received the prestigious prize.

Trump Vs Clinton In Opinion Polls

Over the course of 2020, Biden’s lead over Trump in opinion polls has widened. A list of head-to-head match-ups for Clinton and Trump in opinion polls can be found on Wikipedia.

BBC’

RealClearPolitics also compiles an average of national polls, which mirrors the Wikipedia compilation above and shows Biden leading Trump consistently throughout 2020.

Another tracker of national sentiment is compiled by FiveThirtyEight.com. Their visualization also shows Biden has a lead of roughly 8 percentage points as of October 3, 2020.

It should be noted that opinion polls can paint a misleading picture. In 2016, these same models and averages showed Clinton leading Trump by 3 to 4 percentage points. And although Trump lost the popular vote, he did win the electoral vote and therefore the presidency.

When He Refused To Release His Tax Returns

Trump had 5 years to show us his Tax Returns. The New York AG has to force him to do it. What is he HIDING? Show us https://t.co/UmjebxrQTj Peter Morley 1600014735

From the very beginning, Trump refused to drop his taxes. Why? We can only guess. But former lawyer Michael Cohen suggested it might be for a very Trumpian reason.

He doesnt report the income he claims, Cohen claimed during an interview to promote his book, Disloyal.

His wealth is not as significant, and I imagine they were probably lenient in how they took deductions.

He also said releasing the tax returns might throw up more problems for Trump.

His biggest fear is, if that tax return was released, theres a whole slew of accountants and forensic accountants that will rip through it and he will end up with a massive tax bill, penalties, fines, and possibly even tax fraud, Cohen added.

Failure: Iran Syria And Afghanistan

Trump’s decision to unilaterally withdraw the US from the 2015 nuclear deal in May 2018 has induced chaos throughout the Middle East.

It remains one of Trump’s most unpopular decisions in the global arena, and has been condemned by top US allies who were also signatories to the deal.

The former president failed to thwart Iran’s aggressive behavior in the region through a maximum pressure campaign, meant to squeeze Tehran into negotiating a more stringent version of the pact.

After a series of incidents in the Persian Gulf region in 2019, tensions between Washington and Tehran reached historic heights and sparked fears of war. These fears were exacerbated after Trump ordered a strike that killed Iran’s top general, Qassem Soleimani, in early January 2020. The strike led Iran to retaliate and fire on US troops in the region, and dozens were seriously injured.

Iran also abandoned the 2015 nuclear deal, which was designed to prevent it from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

Trump’s decision to pull US troops out of northern Syria in October 2019 was also among his most disastrous foreign policy moves. In doing so, Trump effectively abandoned US-allied Kurdish forces who bore the brunt of the US-led campaign against ISIS to a Turkish military invasion.

The withdrawal induced a humanitarian crisis and created a security vacuum that Russia, Iran, and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, an accused war criminal, all benefited from.

Trump’s Record Of Hate

Trump says America is respected again. He is quite wrong.

Since Trump was sworn into office, our nations federal courts have halted his draconian and illegal executive actions from being implemented, while millions of people across the country have become more politically engaged, standing up against hate and bigotry.

But Trump is a bully and so is his administration. He will do everything in his power to tear back the progress made under former President Obama, including rolling back and undermining laws that help the LGBTQ+ community and other minority groups.

HRC will continue to stand up against Trump. We will join other civil rights organizations and remain vigilant in holding Trump and his administration accountable at every turn.

Democracy And Government Reform

  • Imperiled American voters with untrue claims about illegal voting. President Trumps empty claims of widespread fraud undermine the integrity of our elections and lay the basis for voter suppression efforts that attack our constitutional right to participate in self-government. When government officials spread lies that call into question the legitimacy of our elections, people lose faith in the democratic process. Instead of responding to the clear and present dangers of foreign interference and discriminatory efforts to keep some American citizens from casting their ballots, Trump chooses to spread baseless slander while calling for a witch hunt against American voters.
  • Brought pay-to-play corruption to the presidency. The Trump family continues to promote their private business interests at home and abroad while profiting off of the presidency. Corruption, or even the appearance of corruption, diminishes trust in government and increases cynicism toward democratic institutions. At a time when 75 percent of Americans already believe that corruption is widespread in government, President Trumps blatant disregard for ethics rules and constitutional prohibitions on presidential enrichment further undermine democratic norms and threatens our democracy, economy, and national security.
  • When He Oversaw The Longest Government Shutdown In Us History

Between December 22 2018 and January 25 2019 almost nothing happened in the US government due to the longest shutdown in United States history.

The reason for this? Because Republicans and Democrats failed to agree on the federal budget, mostly over disputes about Trumps immigration policy and his border wall, which still hasnt been completed.

To show you how hypocritical this whole situation was here is a Trump tweet from less than 12 months before complaining about how bad a shutdown would be for the military:

His White House had dismissed the idea of objective truth and his campaign and presidency have been described as being “post-truth” and hyper-Orwellian. Trump’s rhetorical signature included disregarding data from federal institutions that was incompatible to his arguments quoting hearsay, anecdotal evidence, and questionable claims in partisan media denying reality and distracting when falsehoods were exposed.

New Poll Asks Americans Whether Trump Should Face Charges Top Midterm Priorities

Pence on overturning the election: ‘Trump is wrong’

About half of Americans think former President Donald Trump should face criminal charges for his role in the deadly insurrection that took place at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, according to the latest PBS NewsHour/NPR/Marist poll. But far fewer roughly a quarter think Trump will actually be prosecuted.

Since hearings by the House committee investigating the attack began in June, new evidence and testimony have revealed how much Trump and members of his administration knew about the potential for violence, as well as the former presidents embrace of his armed supporters and his unwillingness to intervene when chaos overwhelmed the Capitol.

While a majority of Americans overall blame Trump for what happened that day, public opinion remains divided down party lines, according to this last poll. Nearly all Democrats 92 percent and a majority of independents but only about one in five Republicans agree.

    Chart by Megan McGrew/PBS NewsHour

The final scheduled Jan. 6 hearing is slated to start Thursday at 8 p.m. ET and is expected to offer a minute-by-minute account of what Trump did and didnt do as the Capitol was overrun. In September, the committee is scheduled to release a report of its findings.

Meanwhile, federal prosecutors responsible for charging suspects related to the attack have also been watching the hearings. Unlike Congress, We do not do our investigations in public, Attorney General Merrick Garland said at the Justice Department Wednesday.

When He Blamed Mental Illness And Video Games For Gun Violence

As we have already mentioned, Trump has failed to do anything about gun violence in the US but in he did find something to blame mental illness and video games.

Speaking after a weekend where 31 died after shootings in Ohio and Texas, Trump criticised gruesome video games that celebrate violence adding that: Mental illness and hatred pull the trigger, not the gun.

The problem here is that one of his first actions as president was to scrap a regulation introduced by Obama that made it harder for people with a history of mental illness to purchase a gun.
