When Elon Musk sealed a deal to buy Twitter for $44 billion this week, another social networking product surged to No. 1 in Apples App Store: Truth Social, the flagship app of former President Donald J. Trumps fledgling social media company.

The heightened interest in Truth Social, which debuted in February, was driven by a recent tech upgrade of the app that allowed a flood of users to join it. At the same time, there is more uncertainty about Twitter. Some Twitter users deactivated their accounts this week after the news broke that Mr. Musk was buying the site and questions arose about how he might change the platform.

Truth Social has long positioned itself as an alternative to Twitter and Facebook, both of which famously barred Mr. Trump from their sites after the at the U.S. Capitol last year. The app has marketed itself as an uncensored platform that will not discriminate against users for their political beliefs. It and other apps like it, such as Rumble and Parler, take a hands-off approach to moderation, in theory so that people can converse freely without being barred.

Truth Social, Mr. Trump has said, would stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech.

Why Do The Former Presidents Call Logs Matter

This all came to light because of the House select committees investigation of the Jan. 6 attack. Official White House records from that day were handed over as a part of the proceedings to see if Trump had a role in the insurrection. And if he was a part of a “criminal conspiracy” to stop Congress from certifying the 2020 election.

Now, the public is finding out that the White House has no record of Trump making or getting phone calls between 11:17am ET to 6:54pm ET that day when the peak of the violence and chaos at the Capitol was underway. On CBSs Face the Nation, Rep. Jamie Raskin said, Its a very unusual thing for us to find that suddenly everything goes dark for a seven-hour period in terms of tracking the movements and the conversations of the president.

The Biden White House has not stood in the way of Pat Cipollone’s testimony, a source familiar with the White House’s thinking tells CNN tonight.

That is in line with President Biden’s decision not to assert executive privilege over documents or testimony concerning the committee’s investigation of the “extraordinary circumstances” surrounding Jan. 6, 2021, the source said.

Liz Cheney, the committee’s vice chair, made clear at the end of Tuesday’s hearing that the committee wants to hear from Cipollone, former President Trump’s White House counsel who was present in the West Wing on Jan. 6, 2021. Cipollone sat for an informal interview in April.

Ivanka Told Documentary Filmmaker Trump Should Pursue Every Avenue To Challenge Election Source Says

Ivanka Trump, daughter and former senior White House adviser to President Donald Trump, said in an interview filmed in mid-December 2020 that her father should “continue to fight until every legal remedy is exhausted,” according to a source familiar with the footage.

Ivanka Trump says in the interview clip, which was first reported by The New York Times, her father should do so because people were questioning “the sanctity of our elections,” the source confirmed to CNN.

The video clip, which has not been viewed by CNN but its contents confirmed by a source familiar with it, was among the footage handed over to the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 attack by British filmmaker Alex Holder who acknowledged Tuesday that he has complied with a subpoena from panel.

Ivanka Trump told the committee during her closed door interview that she believed former Attorney General William Barr when he said there was no evidence of widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election, according to a clip from the deposition with the panel played for the first time during a previous public hearing. Unlike her interview with the filmmaker, however, Ivanka Trump’s interview with the committee was under oath.

CNN has reached out to Ivanka Trump for comment.

Holder acknowledged earlier Tuesday that he had turned over footage that includes never-before-seen interviews with Trump, members of the Trump family and then-Vice President Mike Pence.

Misogyny And Allegations Of Sexual Misconduct

Trump has a history of insulting and belittling women when speaking to media and on social media. He made lewd comments, demeaned womens looks, and called them names like dog, crazed, crying lowlife, face of a pig, or horseface.

In October 2016, two days before the second presidential debate, a 2005 hot micrecording surfaced in which Trump was heard bragging about kissing and groping women without their consent, saying when youre a star, they let you do it, you can do anything grab em by the pussy. The incidents widespread media exposure led to Trumps first public apology during the campaign and caused outrage across the political spectrum.

At least twenty-six women have publicly accused Trump of sexual misconduct as of September 2020, including his then-wife Ivana. There were allegations of rape, violence, being kissed and groped without consent, looking under womens skirts, and walking in on naked women. In 2016, he denied all accusations, calling them false smears, and alleged there was a conspiracy against him.

Relationship With The Press

Throughout his career, Trump has sought media attention, with a lovehate relationship with the press. Trump began promoting himself in the press in the 1970s. Fox News anchor Bret Baier and former House speaker Paul Ryan have characterized Trump as a troll who makes controversial statements to see peoples heads explode.

In the 2016 campaign, Trump benefited from a record amount of free media coverage, elevating his standing in the Republican primaries.New York Times writer Amy Chozick wrote in 2018 that Trumps media dominance, which enthralls the public and creates cant miss reality television-type coverage, was politically beneficial for him.

As a candidate and as president, Trump frequently accused the press of bias, calling it the fake news media and the enemy of the people. Donald Trump Turns Leaked Cellphone Number Into Campaign Move

Donald Trump is making the best of having his phone number leaked to the public. On July 22, a mysterious Pastebin post appeared claiming Trumps number was 917-756-8000. The accompanying message said, This is Donald Trumps personal cellphone number. Let the games begin. Not affiliated with Lindsey Graham.

The post was removed but the number resurfaced on the gossip website Gawker on Monday afternoon. From there, it was carried by numerous media outlets and spread like wildfire on social media.

No one could get through to Trumps line, as it was constantly busy and then turned off. On Thursday, Trump addressed the situation:

If Lindsey Graham has to change cellphone numbers, he has Donald Trump to thank.

On Tuesday, Trump ramped up his attacks on the South Carolina senator who made headlines Monday for the Donald a jackass and even gave out Grahams private phone number.

Trump began his rambling diatribe by calling Graham a lightweight and an idiot.

He doesnt seem like a very bright guy. He actually probably seems to me not as bright as Rick Perry. I think Rick Perry probably is smarter than Lindsey Graham, Trump added, riffing on prior insults he had lobbed at the former Texas governor.

Then Trump transitioned to an embarrassing anecdote, which the billionaire real estate developer said was from a few years ago, in which Graham called Trump begging him for a good reference with Trumps pals on the Fox News morning program Fox & Friends.

Trump said that he promised Graham he would put out a good word, and the South Carolina Republican then gave him his phone number to follow up.

Trump then read out what he said was Grahams phone number, telling his supporters to try it.

I wonder what caused that, Graham told a POLITICO reporter who dialed the number, about the influx of calls.

The biggest beneficiaries of Trumps antics, Graham added, are President Barack Obama and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

How do you troll the richest troll in America? Yesterday afternoon, Gawker published Donald Trumps cellphone number, giving the public the ability to question his policy proposals, tell him off for using brash rhetoric, or just pitch him on a business idea. It seemed like fitting payback after Trump gave out the cellphone number of Senator Lindsey Graham, who proceeded to destroy his phone in a publicity stunt. Now Trump is spinning Gawkers story into a publicity stunt of his own. Hes started tweeting out the number, which has been set up to play a recorded message in which Trump tries to get you to follow him on Twitter:

The message ends with a womans voice laying out what might be a beautiful metaphor for Trumps interaction with anyone who is not himself: The mailbox is full and cannot accept any messages at this time, she says. Goodbye.
