The Democrats lost support in the mid-west and around the Great Lakes, as well as in the south east, with exit polls suggesting that men voted Republican in much higher numbers than women.
The poll of 24,500 people was conducted by Edison Research for ABC News, AP, CBS News, CNN, Fox News and NBC News.

The family put out a statement in support of vaccination, and Mark went on to his brother’s talk show to encourage listeners to take the shot.
He also headed to his local Walmart to get vaccinated. “The guy comes out he said, ‘Do you have any questions or concerns?’ ” Mark Valentine recalls. “I said, ‘Hell yeah, I’ve got both, but do it anyway.’ “
Methodology
Vaccination rate data are the rate of vaccination among all people 18 years of age or older, as of Nov. 30. They are from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
2020 election result data are from MIT Election Data and Science Lab.

% Of Republicans Are Vaccinated 91% Of Democrats Are Vaccinated
People in rural Republican communities, as well as Republicans in general, are less likely to get vaccinated. According to the most recent Kaiser Family Foundation data, Republican COVID vaccination stands at 59%, while Democrats have been vaccinated at a rate of 91%. Liz Hamel, vice president of public opinion and survey research at the KFF, according to NPR, stated that an unvaccinated person is three times more likely to lean Republican than Democrat, and if she wanted to guess if someone was vaccinated or not, she would definitely ask what their party affiliation is.

The national share of the vote dropped by more than three points for the Democrats compared with 2012, while the Republican share of the vote did not change significantly.
At the state level, this pattern meant that the key state of Florida’s 29 electoral college votes were transferred from the Democrats to the Republicans. The state had previously voted for President Obama twice.
The result was on a knife edge, but Donald Trump won by one percent of the vote.
Votes given to other candidates in the state, principally the Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson, would have been enough to clinch the state for Hillary Clinton.
The strong support older voters gave the Republicans helped them to win Florida.
Pennsylvania was another striking victory for Mr Trump in the battleground states. The state had voted Democrat in the previous six presidential elections.
In addition to Pennsylvania and Florida, the president-elect also won in many other of the key states by slim margins, as the chart below shows.
Mr Trump’s electoral victory was underpinned by his success in winning over white voters, with 58% of them voting for the Republican candidate. White voters made up 70% of the electorate in this year’s election.
A smaller proportion of Hispanic votes went to Mrs Clinton than to President Obama in 2012, according to the exit poll.

There’s no legal requirement to announce a winner on election night – this is done as a projection by major US media outlets.
The full count is never completed on the night – but enough votes are usually in to confirm a winner.

This year, the US media will likely be more cautious in calling a winner, as there are more postal votes and these take longer to count.
This could mean the leader on election night in some states could end up losing once all the votes – including postal ballots – are counted.

A recent National Public Radio study suggests that those who live in counties that voted for Donald Trump are nearly three times more likely to die from COVID-19 than those who live in counties that voted for Joe Biden. Since May 2021, NPR has looked at deaths per 100,000 people in about 3,000 counties across the United States. As per the reports of NPR, the 1st of May was picked as the start date since it closely corresponds to the time when adult vaccination became widely available.
According to The Guardian, the study reveals that counties which supported Donald Trump by at least 60% in November 2020 had death rates that were 2.7 times higher than counties that supported Biden by at least 60%. The survey also discovered that counties with a higher percentage of Trump voters had lower vaccination rates. The states of Hawaii, Nebraska, and Alaska were removed from the analysis because they either do not disclose election results by county or do not report vaccination data at the county level.
Bombs Discovered Near Capitol Complex
Around 12:45 p.m., a bomb was discovered next to a building containing Republican National Committee offices by a woman using the shared alleyway to access her apartment building’s laundry room. She alerted RNC security, which investigated and summoned law enforcement police arrived “almost immediately”. U.S. Capitol Police, FBI agents and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives all responded to the RNC bomb.
About thirty minutes later, while officers were still responding at the RNC, they were informed a second pipe bomb had been discovered under a bush at the Democratic National Committee headquarters. The devices were of a similar design about one foot in length, with end caps and wiring apparently attached to a 60-minute kitchen timer, and containing an unknown powder and some metal. No evidence of a remote detonation method, such as via cell phone, was discovered. They were safely detonated by bomb squads police later said they were “hazardous” and could have caused “great harm”.

What Happens If It’s A Tie
There are 538 electoral votes up for grabs, with a fixed number of electors representing each state based roughly on the size of its population.
This means a draw is possible at 269 votes each, although unlikely.
If no candidate gains a majority of votes in the electoral college, it would be up to the US Congress to decide.
Members of Congress elected in the 2020 elections would take on this responsibility.
The House of Representatives would vote to decide the president, with each state delegation having one vote – a majority of 26 is needed for a candidate to become president.
The Senate would select the vice-president, with all 100 senators having a vote.

In November, Trump focused his efforts on trying to delay vote certifications at the county and state level. On December 2, Trump posted a 46-minute video to his social media in which he repeated his baseless claims that the election was “rigged” and fraudulent and called for either the state legislatures or the courts to overturn the results of the election and allow him to stay in office. He continued to apply pressure to elected Republicans in Michigan, Georgia, and Pennsylvania in an unprecedented attempt to overturn the election result. Some commentators have characterized Trump’s actions as an attempted coup d’état or self-coup.
On December 15, the day after the electoral college vote, Republican Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell, who was previously among those who would not recognize the election results, publicly accepted Biden’s win, saying “Today, I want to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden.”
In a December 21 news conference, outgoing Attorney General William Barr disavowed several actions reportedly being considered by Trump, including seizing voting machines, appointing a special counsel to investigate voter fraud, and appointing one to investigate Hunter Biden.

Your vote will still count. Because the focus of the 2020 US presidential election campaign is on just two men, Donald Trump and Joe Biden, it’s very easy to forget that there are many other candidates.
The vast majority of candidates, including the musician Kanye West, only stood in a few places.
However the Libertarian Party’s Jo Jorgensen was on the ballot for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
In October, the BBC heard from three of these other presidential candidates.
In 1968, a third-party candidate, George Wallace, garnered nearly ten million votes, winning five states. In 1992, nearly 20 million people voted for Ross Perot, although he won no states.

Pressure On State And Local Officials
As the Trump campaign’s lawsuits were repeatedly rejected in court, Trump personally communicated with Republican local and state officials in at least three states, including state legislators, attorneys general, and governors who had supported him in the general election and continued to support him. He pressured them to overturn the election results in their states by recounting votes, throwing out certain votes, or getting the state legislature to replace the elected Democratic slate of Electoral College members with a Republican slate of electors chosen by the legislature. In late November, he personally phoned Republican members of two county electoral boards in Michigan, trying to get them to reverse their certification of the result in their county. He then invited members of the Michigan state legislature to the White House, where they declined his suggestion that they choose a new slate of electors. He repeatedly spoke to the Republican governor of Georgia and the secretary of state, demanding that they reverse their state’s election results, threatening them with political retaliation when they did not, strongly criticizing them in speeches and tweets, and demanding that the governor resign.

Once a kind of sleepy job, election officials came under enormous pressure in 2020. Trump called Raffensperger in Georgia and urged him to find enough votes to declare Trump the winner. Raffensperger declined and got threatened by Trump and received death threats from Trumps supporters.
We asked these candidates how they would handle a situation in which the president of the United States asks them to override the results they had just certified. A number indicated that theyd be open to hearing from the president.
