Iowa National Democrats Criticize State Republicans For Supporting Trump After Jan 6 Riot

Iowa Democratic Party Chair Ross Wilburn criticized Iowa Republicans for supporting Trump after his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in January.

“Iowa Republicans have tied themselves to a man who attacked the foundations of our democracy throughout his time in office,” Wilburn said in a statement. “Just nine months ago, he incited a violent mob to attack his own Vice President and threaten the lives of lawmakers who were simply fulfilling their constitutional duty to certify our election.”

A slew of Iowa’s top Republican leaders warmed up the crowd ahead of Trump, including Reynolds, Grassley and U.S. Reps. Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks.

Reynolds led the crowd in a chant of “U.S.A.” and criticized Biden on his immigration policies, mentioning that she visited the U.S.-Mexico border this week.

“I was just there this week,” she said. “You know whos never been there? Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. They dont care. They dont care whats happening at the border.”

Vice President Kamala Harris visited the U.S.-Mexico border in June.

Reynolds also mentioned Biden’s COVID-19 response, eliciting boos from the crowd.

“They dont respect you,” she said of Democrats. “They dont respect your faith, your values. They dont think youre capable of making your own decisions and they dont think you should. And this is what America looks like under democratic leadership but Im here to tell you were fighting back.”

Former President Donald Trump plans to hold a tele-rally for his supporters Monday night, urging them to back Virginia Republican gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin in the following days election, Bloomberg reported Friday.

Youngkin, who is attempting to pull off an unlikely victory over Democrat Terry McAuliffe on Nov. 2, has managed to keep the 45th president at arms length during the campaign. It was not immediately clear whether Youngkin would take part in the Trump tele-rally.

Youngkin accepted Trumps endorsement after winning the Republican gubernatorial nomination in May, but has disavowed the former presidents claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen by the Democrats and emphatically condemned the deadly Jan. 6 riot by Trump supporters at the US Capitol.

With regard to January 6, there is no room for violence in America,Youngkin told Axios in September. None. Absolutely not. And therefore, I think theres just no room for it. We must condemn it every day of the week.

Trump teased the possibility that he would travel to Virginia earlier this week, when he issued a statement telling supporters he would see you soon! On Thursday, Trump attempted to walk back a statement he made earlier this month telling Republicans not to vote in either the 2022 or 2024 federal elections if the result of the 2020 election was not overturned.

At Ohio Rally Trump Knocks Biden On Border Hints At 2024 Plans

WELLINGTON, Ohio, June 26 – At his first rally since leaving the White House, former President Donald Trump on Saturday lambasted the Biden administration’s immigration policies and sought to energize Republicans to take back majorities in Congress next year.

Appearing to relish being back in front of thousands of supporters, Trump repeated his false claim that his defeat in the November 2020 election was marred by fraud.

Trump left office in the aftermath of the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol by his supporters, shortly after a speech in which he urged a crowd to “fight” when then President-elect Joe Biden’s victory was about to be certified by lawmakers.

Trump survived a second impeachment on a charge linked to the violence and has kept broad influence over the Republican Party, in part by leaving open the question of whether he will run for office again in 2024.

He dangled that possibility on Saturday to the crowd.

“We won the election twice and it’s possible we’ll have to win it a third time. It’s possible,” he said.

Trump won the 2016 election against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He lost in 2020.

Whether he runs again could be influenced by the outcome of various legal troubles. The Manhattan district attorneys office has told Trump’s lawyers it is considering filing criminal charges against his family business, the New York Times reported on Friday.

Biden’s White House has called Trump’s immigration policies inhumane.

Biden Can Only Talk About One Thing: Donald Trump

The statement that I made a few weeks ago was in no way meant to imply that I would tell them not to vote, but rather that they may not have the incentive to vote if the election process is not fully remedied, and quickly, Trump claimed. It was the Crime of the Century. We are working on solving that problem every dayit will be done! People do not want to spend their time and money to have a SCAM like that happen again. Regardless of anything or anyone, we must get out the Republican and SANE VOTE!

McAuliffe and the Democrats have sought to tie Youngkin to Trump, with President Biden mentioning his predecessors name two dozen times at a rally with McAuliffe in Arlington this past Tuesday.

He wont allow Donald Trump to campaign for him in this state, Biden claimed of Youngkin. Hes willing to pledge his loyalty to Trump in private, why not in public? Whats he trying to hide? Is there a problem with Trump being here? Is he embarrassed?

Youngkin has slowly made up ground on McAuliffe in the polls over the past two months. Most surveys now show the race as a statistical tie, though a Fox News poll released Thursday showed the Republican leading by 8 percentage points among likely voters.

Neither the Youngkin campaign nor a spokesman for Trump responded to requests for comment by The Post.

Baseless Claims About The 2020 Outcome

Trump rally crowd chants Fill that seat! as Supreme ...

Trump’s trip to Iowa brings up another thing that’s unprecedented: the false claims he’s pushing about the 2020 election being stolen. There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud, but Iowans are asking about it at town halls.

At one last month for Grassley in rural western Iowa, a man in the back of the crowded room told the senator that he doesn’t trust the outcome of the election.

“I feel in my heart that there was a lot of cheating going on,” the man said.

Grassley didn’t directly correct the claim. Instead, he defended Iowa’s elections and criticized congressional Democrats’ plan for a federal voting overhaul.

Bardwell says misinformation has taken hold in the GOP.

“You can’t put the genie back in the bottle, in terms of once this accusation is unleashed,” he said. “And once it’s believed by a large percentage of the Republican base, there’s kind of no going back at that point. Mainly because kind of the psychological dynamics of misinformation are such that at that point, people will just find and then rationalize the position that they already have.”

Trump’s lies about 2020 haven’t dissuaded Iowa Republicans from wanting to appear with him.

That includes Iowans who are up for reelection next year. Both Grassley and Gov. Kim Reynolds are slated to speak ahead of him at Saturday night’s rally.
