When former President Donald J. Trump spoke to a friendly crowd on Tuesday in his first visit to Washington since leaving office, he was covered extensively by a range of news outlets, both mainstream ones and those more sympathetic to him.
There was one notable outlier: Fox News.
The network, which helped make Mr. Trump a force on the American right, devoted little airtime to his speech. It did not broadcast his remarks live and hasnt done so for most of his rallies over the past year.
But it did go live with a competing speech that former Vice President Mike Pence delivered the same day, at a hotel less than a mile away. For roughly 17 minutes on Tuesday afternoon, Fox viewers heard Mr. Pence uninterrupted.
The snub reflected a pattern in the way that Foxs news programming has treated the former president lately: skeptically and sometimes harshly, even as the networks highly rated and influential prime-time hosts, like Sean Hannity, continue to defend him and deflect from the recent revelations of the Jan. 6 hearings.

Trump’s return to Washington is occurring in the midst of the , which are investigating the 2021 attack on the Capitol and the role that Trump played in it.
The latest hearing showed key aides of the former president testifying that, for more than three hours, Trump took no action to stop the riot and simply watched the violence unfold on live television.
He is teasing a potential presidential run for 2024.
How To Watch Trump Speak At America First Agenda Summit
Trump will be speaking on Tuesday, July 26, at the Marriott Marquis, where he will be giving the keynote speech at the summit.
He is set to speak on Tuesday afternoon, at 3 p.m. You can watch it live on YouTube here.
It’s possible Trump could give some more clues in the speech about his intentions for 2024.
Mark Lotter, the communications officer of the America First Policy Institute, told CNN that Trump is “still the leader of the America First movement”.
“He is the biggest name. He’s the visionary behind many of the policies that got him elected to the White House,” Lotter said. “And when you look at what’s going on in America right now, so many people are clamoring for that kind of policy leadership back. They want cheap gas, growing paychecks, soaring stock markets and not what we have right now.”
The former commander-in-chief’s speech is expected to be on crime and what he would do about it.
On this subject, Lotter added that: “to give voice to that agenda, to lay it out for the congressional midterms and beyond, I think there is nobody better than the former president to be able to do that.”

Crime Immigration And The Economy
While Trumps election denial loomed large, he spent most of the speech focusing on themes that defined his successful 2016 campaign: crime and immigration.
The former president said the US is now a cesspool of crime, repeating a Republican talking point that a spike in violent crime in 2020, and a smaller increase in 2021, are the result of liberal policies in US cities. The rates for both years remain far below the all-time high crime rates recorded in the US in the 1990s.
We have blood, death and suffering on a scale once unthinkable, he said.
Trump, who launched his 2016 campaign by pledging to build a wall to stop undocumented migrants from crossing the southern border with Mexico, while accusing migrants of being rapists and bringing drugs and crime with them, called on the next Republican president to restore his hardline border policies.
The next Republican president must immediately implement every aspect of the Trump agenda that achieved the most secure border in history, he said.
He blamed Biden for the 40-year high inflation and energy prices in the US, which the current president has blamed on the fallout from Russias invasion of Ukraine.
We are a nation in decline, he said. We are a failing nation.

Key Takeaways From Former President Trumps Speech In Washington
During speech at America First Policy Institute, Trump hinted at 2024 run, repeated unfounded claims of election fraud and re-upped themes from past campaigns.
Former United States President Donald Trump has made his first public speech in Washington, DC since leaving the White House in January 2021, following his election loss to Joe Biden.
He spoke for 90 minutes on Tuesday at the right-wing America First Policy Institute, laying out what he said should be the policy platforms for the next Republican president.
Since moving out of the White House days after his supporters stormed the US Capitol in an attempt to overturn the election results on January 6, 2021, Trump has remained one of the most polarising figures in the country. He has continued to spread unfounded claims the election was rife with widespread fraud and was ultimately stolen from him while throwing his political clout behind Republican candidates across the country who continue to spread that misinformation before legislative elections in November.
Trump has also continued to divide his own Republican Party, with some sects seeing his passionate base, populist messaging and institutional hostility as an advantage going into 2024, and others seeing it as a liability.

Final Polls Are Closing Across Alaska
From CNN’s Rachel Janfaza, Ethan Cohen, Melissa Holzberg DePalo, Clara Grudberg and Nicholas Anastacio
Its 1 a.m. ET and final polls are closing across Alaska. Some polls in the state closed earlier at 12 a.m. ET.
Here are the key races we are tracking:
The state is hosting a special election to fill the state’s at large House seat, which has been vacant since Rep. Don Young’s death in March. Three candidates, including former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, are on the ballot, with the winner decided by ranked choice voting.
Also running is Republican Nick Begich III who won the Alaska Republican Party’s endorsement in April and is the product of a powerful Alaska political family as the grandson of the Democratic congressman of the same name, who disappeared on a flight in 1972, and the nephew of former Democratic Sen. Mark Begich and former Democratic state Rep. Mary Peltola. Independent candidate Al Gross was previously running but withdrew from the race.
The three special election contenders along with nearly 20 other candidates, most notably Republican Tara Sweeney are also running in a concurrent primary that will determine the four finalists for the November election that will decide who will win the at-large House seat for the next full term. There is also a gubernatorial primary.
CNN’s Gregory Krieg contributed reporting to this post.

Cnn Projection: Alaska Special Election Will Go To Ranked Choice Tabulation
From CNN’s Rachel Janfaza
The results of the Alaska special general election to fill the remainder of the late Rep. Don Young’s term remain uncertain, as CNN projects none of the candidates on the ballot topped 50% on Tuesday a necessary feat given the state’s new ranked choice voting rules.
The special general election, which was triggered by Young’s death, marks the first time that Alaska is using ranked choice voting a process that asks voters to rank their preferred candidates, with the votes for the lowest-finishing candidates coming into play only if no one tops 50%. CNN projected that no candidate crossed that threshold, which means it will be a while until the winner is determined, with the ranked choice voting tabulation scheduled to begin on Aug. 31.
The race to determine who will fill the remainder of Young’s term pits former Gov. Sarah Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee who has not appeared on a ballot since that election loss, against Nick Begich III, who won the Alaska Republican Party’s endorsement in April and is the product of a powerful Democratic Alaska political family, and former Democratic state Rep. Mary Peltola.
All three candidates and independent Al Gross advanced to the August special general election after a June nonpartisan special primary, but Gross withdrew from the race and encouraged his supporters to back Peltola.

Trumps town hall will take place at the Perez Art Museum in Miami. NBC News has been given a statement by Dr. Clifford Lane, Clinical Director at the National Institutes of Health , indicating that he and Dr. Anthony Fauci have reviewed the presidents recent medical data, including a PCR test collected and analyzed by NIH on Oct. 13, and have concluded with a high degree of confidence that the president is not shedding infectious virus, they added.

How To Watch Trump Speech: Time Live Stream For Cpac Remarks
Former President Donald Trump will close out the third day of the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando, Florida, on Saturdayalmost a year after he used the event to tease another presidential campaign.
Trump has maintained his hold on the GOP since leaving the Oval Office and has asserted himself as the leader of the party, potentially paving the way for a White House bid if he decides to run again. Speakers who took to the CPAC stage over the weekend were predominantly Trump allies, aligning themselves with the former president’s view over the country’s future.
Trump, who led a straw poll of CPAC attendees last year, will be the final speaker of Saturday’s events event and is expected to take the stage on Saturday at 7 p.m ET. His speech will be live streamed on Fox Nation, Fox News‘ on-demand streaming platform CPAC’s website and the Right Side Broadcasting channel. C-SPAN will also carry Trump’s remarks.
Trump will likely lambast President Joe Biden for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In an interview last week, the former president said that he “always knew” Russian President Vladimir Putin had his eye on Ukraine and that the two leaders discussed it multiple times. Trump said he squashed the idea of Russia invading Ukraine, telling the Russian president he “can’t” do it, even though it was clear he wanted to.
