Who Is Running Against Trump For President

Pas White Working Class Voters

Pence was asked if he’d run against Trump in 2024. Hear his response

In southwestern Pennsylvania, Trump signs still fly, along with Lets go Brandon” and derogatory messages about President Joe Biden. At a motorcycle dealership north of Pittsburgh, the Wi-Fi signal is called: Trump is still our president. Democrats once had a stronghold in this part of the state, but the collar counties around Pittsburgh voted for Trump.

Trumps base comes from the white, working class voters in our state and in many other places, said Terry Madonna, senior fellow for political affairs at Millersville University.

They come from working-class areas such as the southwestern part of Pennsylvania where Mike Harbison lives. Even though Democratic voter registration edges out the Republicans, the residents of the collar counties around Allegheny chose Trump mainly because theyre conservative on issues like abortion and gay rights, strong supporters of the Second Amendment, Dont touch my guns. And because many of their ancestors worked in the mines and mills – iron, coal, steel and now natural gas theyre concerned about the Democratic Partys position on the environment, he said.

In 2016, that fervor was the ingredient that elevated Trump to a win, and it was so unusual that pollsters missed the signs, predicting wrongly that Hillary Clinton would win.

Nikki Haley: Running For Us President Against Trump In 2024

Nikki Haley: Would She Run for President 2024? Long rumored to be considering a 2024 run, former United States Ambassador Nikki Haley this week distanced herself from former President Donald Trump and firmly sided with former Vice President Mike Pence on the matter of election fraud.

Mike Pence is a good man. Hes an honest man, I think he did what he thought was right on that day, Haley told Fox Newss Bret Baier on Monday.

Her comments came after the former vice president, who is also rumored to be considering a 2024 run, said that the former president was wrong about his role in the certification of presidential electors.

President Trump is wrong. I had no right to overturn the election, Pence told the audience at a Federalist Society event hosted in Florida.

Nikki Haley Changes Her Tune, Considers Run Against Trump in 2024

In April 2021, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley indicated that she would not launch a bid for the GOP presidential nomination if former President Donald Trump announced a third run.I would not run if President Trump ran, and I would talk to him about it, Haley told The Associated Press. Thats something that well have a conversation about at some point if that decision is something that has to be made.

In October, however, Haley reversed course and said that she will decide whether or not to run independently of whether the former president announces another bid for the presidency.

Nikki Haley: Can She Win?

Right now, no.

Brock Pierce is a former child actor who appeared in the Mighty Ducks franchise and starred as the president’s son in the 1996 comedy First Kid. But thanks to his second career as a tech entrepreneur, he’s also probably a crypto currency billionaire.

Why is he running for president? Partly because he is deeply concerned by the state of the country.

“I think that we lack a real vision for the future – I mean, what kind of world do we want to live in, in the year 2030? What is the plan? Where are we trying to get to, you know? You have to aim for something. And I see mostly just a lot of mud being thrown around, not a lot of people putting forth game-changing ideas. It’s getting scary. And I have a view of what to do.”

For the last four years, Mr Pierce has focused on philanthropic work in Puerto Rico, where his foundation recently raised a million dollars for PPE to give to first responders.

Asked what America’s priorities should be for the next four years, he suggests the country stops pursuing “growth for growth’s sake”, and measures its success by how well life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are upheld.

And if he doesn’t pull it off? Mr Pierce says he has offers.

“I’m constantly invited to run for Governor of New York, Governor of Minnesota. I mean basically everywhere I go they’re like, Brock, you could actually fix this. Like if you don’t become president next year, would you try and run our state, would you run our city?

The Suburban Philly Woman

The environment is what pulled Kelly DeJong into politics.

She was still young when her conservative-leaning mom and stepdad publicly vocalized their opposition to a pump that would divert some water from the Delaware River. The fight over that pump lasted years and failed to stop its construction. Its now close to DeJongs home in Bucks County.

In college, she registered to vote with the Green Party, but in recent years, she switched to the Democratic Party so she could vote in the primary.

I wasnt active in politics until 2016, when Trump got elected, she said. Her oldest daughter, 6 years old during that election, saw some of Trumps ads on television and didnt like they way he talked about people. We were raising her to be kind to people. She was so upset when he ended up winning, DeJong said.

Shes now involved in local politics, especially school board elections, which have become contentious after the debate over masks escalated into arguments she found disconcerting, over the rights of LGBTQ students in school, she said.

She, too, lives close to where she grew up, a place that wasnt nearly as diverse in her childhood as college at Carnegie Mellon University, where she graduated with a degree in architecture. She moved to Los Angeles after college but moved back to southeast Pennsylvania to settle down, marry and raise a family. DeJong and her husband, who is self-employed, have two daughters.

Heres where she stands on some of the issues:

Donald Trump’s 2016 Presidential Campaign

Is Trump going to run for President in 2024? Hes considering it ...

Trump said that her role in her father’s 2016 presidential campaign was limited. She said, “My role is daughter. I’m his daughter…My siblings and I volunteer our opinions, solicited or not. And I think most children do that with their parents. I think there’s something unique in that we’re colleagues.”

Trump introduced her father at the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. She also penned an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal in September 2016 about Donald Trump’s proposed policies on maternity leave and childcare costs.

Could It Be Used Now

It’s possible, but some experts say unlikely.

Associate Professor in American Politics at the University of Sydney’s United States Studies Centre, Brendon O’Connor, says impeachment is a far better approach for those looking to permanently oust Mr Trump.

And on the off-chance this approach was attempted, it wouldn’t be any time soon.

“I really think the 14th amendment would be something that could only be deployed after he’s been on trial ,” he said.

“Why muddy the waters by attempting to do two things at once?”

And, he adds, how it would work is ambiguous.

Brian Kalt, a law professor at Michigan State University, says it would probably need a combination of legislation and litigation.

“The 14th Amendment route is very unclear as to what it would take to get it rolling,” Mr Kalt says.

Another section in the 14th Amendment, Section 5, empowers Congress to enforce the entire amendment through “appropriate legislation.”

Some scholars have interpreted this language to mean that a majority of both chambers of Congress could enact a law applying a ban to a particular president, like Mr Trump.

Associate Professor Aiden Warren, from RMIT’s School of Global, Urban and Social Studies, says it’s a waiting game.

“It’s like the other million dollar question if Trump would pardon himself. We just don’t know,” he said.

Rick Caruso And Karen Bass Head To A Runoff In The Los Angeles Mayors Race

LOS ANGELES Rick Caruso, a billionaire real estate developer, and Representative Karen Bass are heading to a November runoff election to become mayor of Los Angeles, in a race that has focused on voters worries about public safety and homelessness in the nations second-largest city.

Though neither candidate earned more than 50 percent of the vote, which would have allowed them to win outright on Tuesday, they both comfortably outperformed their opponents. The runoff was declared by The Associated Press.

The liberal citys surge of support for Mr. Caruso, a longtime Republican who changed his registration to Democratic days before declaring his candidacy, is likely to deepen the Democratic Partys divisions on issues of crime, policing and racial justice. San Francisco voters also moved on Tuesday to recall Chesa Boudin, the citys progressive district attorney.

As Mr. Caruso gave a speech to supporters at the Grove, his flagship shopping center in Los Angeles, he portrayed himself as an optimist with grand plans to address the citys twin problems of crime and homelessness.

We are not helpless in the face of our problems, he said, flanked by his wife and their four children. We will not allow this city to decline. We will no longer accept excuses. We have the power to change the direction of Los Angeles.

Mr. Caruso may face a steeper uphill climb during the general election if high-profile Democrats rally behind Ms. Bass.

Selling A Conspiracy Theory With Broad Implications

Their goal is to convince Americans that what happened on Jan. 6, 2021, was truly an insurrection comparable to the Civil War, rather than merely a disorganized and ultimately pointless riot involving a relatively small fraction of the people who had gathered in Washington to protest the 2020 election results. But its not only that. With their tall tale about insurrection, the Democrats and their two turncoat Republican collaborators Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger are trying to sell the country a conspiracy theory with broader implications.

The conspiracy is that the riot was plotted by the Trump White House in collaboration with a wide array of Republican officeholders, conservative commentators, and activists who were seeking to pull off nothing less than a coup d├ętat in which the government would be unlawfully seized by denying the presidency to Joe Biden.

This effort will involve using what they hauled in with the massive fishing expedition conducted by the committee in the last year, which included more than 1,000 interviews and more than 100,000 documents, emails and texts from a wide variety of persons, most of whom had nothing to do with the riot that was the ostensible purpose of the investigation.

Expect Trump to run for president: Lindsey Graham

The House committee probing the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol kicked off a prime-time hearing Thursday with searing charges against Donald Trump, painting a portrait of the former president at the center of a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election.

Trump, charged Rep. Bennie Thompson, the Mississippi Democrat who leads the Jan. 6 panel, engaged in what became a sprawling, multi-step conspiracy aimed at overturning the presidential election, that was aimed at replacing Americans votes with his will to remain in power after his term ended.

Donald Trump was at the center of this conspiracy, said Thompson.

Lawmakers leading the probe said Thursdays prime-time hearing would be the start of sessions revealing new details about the insurrection. The panel, led by Thompson and Vice Chairwoman Liz Cheney, a Wyoming Republican, showed a videotaped deposition by former Attorney General Bill Barr, in which he said he told Trump that claims the election was stolen were bullshit. Trumps daughter Ivanka, in a separate video, said she accepted Barrs statement about lack of election fraud.

Trump has denied responsibility or any wrongdoing related to the Jan. 6 attack.

Trump, said Cheney, summoned the mob, assembled the mob and lit the flame of this attack.

Gop Races Dominated By Maga Candidateswhether Trump Has Backed Them Or Not

At a recent focus group of Republican voters from swing states, the only surprise came about 80 minutes into the two-hour Zoom session, when participants were questioned about the power of Donald J. Trump’s primary endorsements. Until then, the group had shown nothing but enduring loyalty and admiration for the former president. They echoed his views on immigration and critical race theory, questioned the integrity of the 2020 election and wished he were still president. Yet when asked how much Trump’s much-heralded and intensely coveted endorsements would influence their vote in upcoming GOP primaries, they all hedged.

“If I was on the fence, that might be the final factor,” a woman from North Carolina said. “But if I truly believed in the opposing candidate, it’s not going to make me vote any differently.” As long as the person she favors advocates strong America First and Make America Great Again policies, the voter said, she doesn’t need to follow Trump’s lead to feel she is supporting his creed.

In contest after contest, state after stateincluding upcoming May primaries in Ohio, West Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Georgiathe fields in key races are crowded with not just one or two but several MAGA options. And the lone non-MAGA candidate, if there is one, is typically trailing substantially in the polls. That virtually guarantees a majority of Trumpists on the Republican ballot in November.

Former President Donald Trump

Trump has publicly flirted with another run for president in 2024. He’s remained active in Iowa, further stoking speculation that he could enter the race. His leadership PAC announced in August it had hired two Iowa operatives, and he planned to make his first visit back to Iowa for one of his signature rallies in October.

Trump easily won Iowa in the 2016 and 2020 general elections, and he remains popular among many Republicans here.

Former Vice President Mike Pence is still not ruling out a run for the presidency in the upcoming 2024 election, despite his public break with Donald Trump over whether certify Joe Bidens 2020 election victory.

Mr Pence, who was serving as Indianas governor when Mr Trump chose him as his running-mate six years ago, has sought to distance himself from the twice-impeached ex-president with a series of public appearances in which he has called Mr Trumps push to overturn the 2020 election wrong and slammed those who would blame both sides for the 2017 racist riot in Charlottesville, Virginia.

In an interview with The New York Times last month, Mr Pence said he and his wife, Karen, would go where were called when asked whether hed decline to mount a White House run if Mr Trump declares himself a candidate, and instead told the Times he and Ms Pence have always approached these things by acting on prayer.

While Mr Trump remains the de facto leader of the GOP, in part because he continues to endorse candidates who parrot his lies about having been the victim of a stolen election two years ago, Mr Pence said he has been very moved by how many people have made a point to thank him for resisting Mr Trumps demand that he unilaterally reject swing state electoral votes in an attempt to keep himself and the ex-president in office against the wishes of American voters.
