It’s Not As Simple As ‘if More People Voted Trump Would Lose’
But it’s an entrenched idea.
Forget a massive change like compulsory voting for a second. Even simple efforts just to try to increase the number of Americans who vote often meet resistance because of the perception that more voting is bad news for Republicans.
Speaking about a Democratic Party effort to make voting easier amid the pandemic, US President Donald Trump told Fox News earlier this year:
“They had levels of voting that if you ever agreed to it, you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again.”
We can examine the President’s scenario of high levels of voting.
Let’s say US governments gave up asking nicely and did something extreme, like, copying Australia’s system of compulsory voting. Would a Republican ever be elected again?
How does he know? Because Fowler studied what happened when Australia introduced compulsory voting.
“I think the logic essentially would also apply to the United States, where poor, working-class people are much less likely to vote under voluntary voting. They become more likely to vote under compulsory voting, and that does change elections and changes policy as a result,” Fowler said.
Senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, Karlyn Bowman, agreed the average American voter had a higher level of education and income. But would introducing compulsory voting turn every election afterwards into a landslide for one party?

How Do Young Voters Feel About Trump
Says Hall, A majority of young people, like we saw in 2020, would reject a President Trump candidacy. This rejection comes from an understanding that the issues that we care about, Trump is not a fan of, whether it’s the environment, voting rights and the keen look at the racial discrimination within voting rights, the economy, and making sure that were raising taxes on the wealthy corporations.
According to a recent Alliance for Youth Organizing poll of voters age 17-39, the most commonly favored issue they would like elected officials to work on is increasing taxes on corporations and the wealthy. Thats something where young people, I think, are all aligned upon,” Hall says, “whether youre a Democrat, Republican, or Independent that those in Washington, DC, only care about wealthy people.
Trump, whose net worth totals approximately $2.5 billion and whose company is under investigation for tax fraud, embodies wealth and hypocrisy. Basically, though many young voters feel disillusioned with the Biden administration, most would still prefer Biden return to office in 2024 over four more years of Trump, according to Hall.

Donald Trump admitted on Monday that making it easier to vote in America would hurt the Republican party.
The president made the comments as he dismissed a Democratic-led push for reforms such as vote-by-mail, same-day registration and early voting as states seek to safely run elections amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Democrats had proposed the measures as part of the coronavirus stimulus. They ultimately were not included in the $2.2tn final package, which included only $400m to states to help them run elections.
The things they had in there were crazy. They had things, levels of voting that if youd ever agreed to it, youd never have a Republican elected in this country again, Trump said during an appearance on Fox & Friends. They had things in there about election days and what you do and all sorts of clawbacks. They had things that were just totally crazy and had nothing to do with workers that lost their jobs and companies that we have to save.
I dont want everybody to vote, Paul Weyrich, an influential conservative activist, said in 1980. As a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down.
The urgency of getting election officials those resources should not be lost in the political fighting, said Myrna Perez, director of the Brennan Centers voting rights and elections program.

Bill Barr: I Think Trump Was Responsible For Jan 6 ‘in The Broad Sense
Barr wrote in his book that in the final months of his administration “Trump cared only about one thing himself, country and principle took second place.” He added that Trump has “no concern with ideology or political principle” and that his motive is “revenge.”
“He was always hard to work with and resistant to advice, but you can usually keep things on track,” Barr said. “But after the election, he went off the rails. He wouldn’t listen to anybody except a little coterie of sycophants who were telling him what he wanted to hear.”
Barr admitted to underestimating the lengths Trump would go to try to overturn the election results.
“I was surprised,” he said. “I thought it was a farce because of there was no substance to it, there was no legal support for it.”
He also said he believed Trump was responsible for the riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, but said he doesnt think the former president was legally culpable.
I do think he was responsible in the broad sense of that word, in that it appears that part of the plan was to send this group up to the Hill, Barr said on Nightly News. I think the whole idea was to intimidate Congress. And I think that that was wrong.
Barr also answered criticism that he should have spoken out about Trump while he was still attorney general and that his book is part of a tour to rehabilitate his image.
Not Thrilled With Biden But Absolutely Not Missing Trump
These two focus groups consisted of all Biden voters, but overwhelmingly they still consider themselves Republicans. They haven’t yet left the party, even though they’re disillusioned by Trump’s ongoing presence and the control he still holds.
In contrast to the majority of Republicans responding to polls, none of these voters falsely believes the 2020 election was stolen.
None said they regret their 2020 vote. And while they may be disappointed in Biden, they absolutely rule out voting for Trump if he runs for president again.

Take Christine from the Philadelphia suburbs. Like others in her focus group, she said she first voted for Trump because he was a businessman and not a politician.
But she got far more than she bargained for. She used blunt language to describe the former president: “I felt like we had this monster in office that was bipolar, up and down, irrational, crazy thinking.” She called Trump “childish,” said that “crazy things came out of his mouth,” and that he was “not good for the United States.”
And after all of that, Christine confessed: “I didn’t want to vote for Biden. And I’m going to be honest with you, I would have voted for anybody but Trump.”

When Is The Next Us Election
The next US election will be on Tuesday 5 November 2024.
This is because, under Article II of the US Constitution, one presidential term must last four years.
Election Day is statutorily set by the Federal Government as the Tuesday next after the first Monday in the month of November. This means it always falls between 2-8 November.
Tuesday was chosen as Election Day so that voters could attend church on Sunday, travel to the polling location on Monday, and vote before Wednesday, which was usually when farmers would sell their produce at the market.
Experts Warn Of ’emergency’ As Trump
Officials have resisted Trump’s push to change votes but that could soon change.
With the last batches of ballots still being tallied in Pennsylvania’s Republican Senate primary, Donald Trump weighed in last week to insist his chosen candidate go ahead and “declare victory” even though the counting wasn’t complete.
The former president has a long history of insisting elections are fraudulent when he’s expecting he won’t get the outcome he wants. But historically, election officials around the country from both parties have complied with the law to count up and certify the vote regardless of their politics.
That could change come November: Trump is backing a slate of candidates in battleground states who have said they support his mistrust in elections, despite any evidence of widespread fraud. If voted into office, these officials would have the power to run elections — or even try to reject or reverse the results — as Trump has repeatedly urged them to do.
“We have to be a lot sharper next time when it comes to counting the vote,” Trump said in a video message earlier this year. “There’s a famous statement: Sometimes the vote counter is more important than the candidate. And we can’t let that ever, ever happen again,” Trump said, referring to a quote from Soviet Union dictator Joseph Stalin.
“It’s a potential emergency,” Simon added, “particularly going into a presidential election.”

Former Attorney General William Barr said he would vote for Donald Trump for president again, even after arguing in his new memoir that Trump went off the rails after the 2020 presidential election and blaming the U.S. Capitol attack on Trumps election lies.
Ive certainly made it clear I dont think he should be our nominee and Im going to support somebody else for the nomination, Barr told Today host Savannah Guthrie in an interview Monday to promote his forthcoming memoir. He argues in his book that Republicans need to pick another candidate besides Trump in 2024.
But pressed by Guthrie, Barr said he couldnt imagine voting for the Democratic nominee even with Trump on the ballot.
Because I believe that the greatest threat to the country is the progressive agenda being pushed by the Democratic Party, its inconceivable to me that I wouldnt vote for the Republican nominee, Barr said.
So even if he lied about the election and threatened democracy, as you write in your book … better than a Democrat? Guthrie asked.
Its hard to project what the facts are going to turn out to be three years hence. But as of now, its hard for me to conceive that I wouldnt vote for the Republican nominee, Barr said.
Barrs admission came minutes after Guthrie read a statement Trump sent to NBC insulting Barr, calling him lethargic and a coward.
Trump has teased another White House run in 2024 but has yet to make it official.

Donald Trump: ‘i Just Want To Find 11780 Votes
The Washington Post has released a recording of US President Donald Trump telling Georgia’s top election official to “find” enough votes to overturn the election result.
“I just want to find 11,780 votes,” he told Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.
In the full recording, Mr Raffensperger is heard replying that Georgia’s results were correct.
Mr Biden won Georgia alongside other swing states, winning 306 electoral college votes to his Mr Trump’s 232.
Since the 3 November vote, Mr Trump has been alleging widespread electoral fraud without providing any evidence.
Supreme Court Strikes A Blow On Bureaucrats
In a major win for the Biden White House, the Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the administration can do away with the Trump-era Remain in Mexico policy, which has forced many asylum-seekers to wait south of the border for their immigration hearings.
The 5-4 majority, led by Chief Justice John Roberts, found that a federal appeals court was wrong to require the Department of Homeland Security to continue operating the program formally known as the Migrant Protection Protocols while the case made its way through the courts.
Nothing prevents an agency from undertaking new agency action while simultaneously appealing an adverse judgment against its original action. That is particularly so under the circumstances of this case, Roberts wrote in the courts opinion, which was joined by fellow conservative Brett Kavanaugh and liberals Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.
In a separate concurrence, Kavanaugh wrote that when there is insufficient detention capacity, both releasing asylum-seekers into the United States and sending them back to Mexico are legally permissible options under the immigration statutes.
The administration had repeatedly attempted to end the policy, claiming that it was a poor tool for deterring migration, exposed migrants to unacceptable risks, and detracted from the Executive Branchs right to manage the borders as it saw fit.
