Is Donald Trump Running For President 2020

This Wasn’t A Campaign Launch But It Sounded Like One

First 2020 Presidential Debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden

Speaking in Washington for the first time since leaving office, Mr Trump used his keynote address to continue to falsely claim he won the 2020 election, despite losing to US President Joe Biden.

“I ran the first time and I won, and I ran a second time and did much better,” Mr Trump said.

“We may just have to do it again.”

Mr Trump spoke before an audience of hundreds of cheering supporters gathered for the America First Policy Institute’s two-day America First Agenda Summit.

Composed of former Trump administration officials and allies, the group is widely seen as an “administration in waiting” that could quickly move to the West Wing if Mr Trump should run again and win.

The former US president portrayed America as a country overwhelmed with crime, violence, drugs and invasions of illegal migrants, claiming the nation is “doomed” unless he steps in.

“I have to save our country. I’m not doing this for me, I had a very luxurious life,” Mr Trump said.

“I’m doing it for America. It’s an honour to do it. Because if I don’t do it, our country is doomed.”

Mr Trump called the 2020 election “a catastrophe” and “a disgrace”, and took aim at the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot, calling the panel “the unselect committee of hacks and thugs”.

“They really want to damage me so I can no longer go back to work for you. And I don’t think that’s going to happen,” Mr Trump said.

United States presidential election of 2020, American presidential election held on November 3, 2020, in the midst of the global coronavirus pandemic, in which Democrat Joe Biden, formerly the 47th vice president of the United States, defeated the incumbent president, Republican Donald Trump, to become the 46th U.S. president. Biden garnered more than 81 million votes to win the popular vote by more than seven million ballots and to triumph in the Electoral College by a count of 306 to 232. Refusing to acknowledge Bidens victory, Trump claimed without evidence that the election had been stolen from him through fraud and mounted unsuccessful legal challenges in several states that he had lost. Widespread acceptance of Trumps prolonged baseless insistence that the election had been stolen ultimately led to the storming of the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters on January 6, 2021, the day that the Electoral College results were to be ceremoniously reported to a joint session of Congress. Identifying the provocative speech that Trump delivered to supporters before the insurrectionist mob invaded the Capitol as inciting violence against the Government of the United States, the House of Representatives subsequently impeached the lame duck president.

Aftermath: Trumps Refusal To Concede And The Insurrection At The Capitol

While votes were still being counted, Trump falsely claimed victory and demanded a halt to the counting. He claimed that there had been widespread voting irregularities, but he provided no evidence for his accusations. Trump steadfastly refused to concede, but over the ensuing weeks dozens of legal challenges to the election results in states that Trump lost were almost universally summarily dismissed by the courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court. Moreover, recounts in Wisconsin and Georgia confirmed Bidens victory in those states. Nevertheless, Trump, with the support of most Republicans and echoed by the right-wing media, continued to baselessly claim that the election had been stolen. Further, he tried to persuade Republican officials in several states to reject the results in their states and to supplant Electoral College slates pledged to Biden with slates pledged to himself.

Were going to walk down to the Capitol, and were going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women, and were probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them, because youll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength, and you have to be strong.

The Washington Examiner reported on December 19, 2018, that the South Carolina Republican Party had not ruled out forgoing a primary contest to protect Trump from any primary challengers. Party chairman Drew McKissick stated, “Considering the fact that the entire party supports the president, we’ll end up doing what’s in the president’s best interest.” On January 24, another Washington Examiner report indicated that the Kansas Republican Party was “likely” to scrap its presidential caucus to “save resources”.

In August 2019, the Associated Press reported that the Nevada Republican Party was also contemplating canceling their caucuses, with the state party spokesman, Keith Schipper, saying it “isn’t about any kind of conspiracy theory about protecting the president … He’s going to be the nominee … This is about protecting resources to make sure that the president wins in Nevada and that Republicans up and down the ballot win in 2020.”

Kansas, Nevada and South Carolina’s state committees officially voted on September 7, 2019, to cancel their caucus and primary. The Arizona state Republican Party indicated two days later that it will not hold a primary. These four were joined by the Alaska state Republican party on September 21, when its central committee announced they would not hold a presidential primary.

Virginia Republicans decided to allocate delegates at the state convention.

Sarah Palin Slams Gop Opponent After Losing Special Election

Nick Begich is now a three-time loser, Ms Palin said in a statement on Thursday. His ego-driven assistance after repeatedly failing to garner a majority of Republican votes, while I have consistently won the vote, has just cost Republicans a seat in Congress.

Eric Garcia reports.

The former Alaska governor also says the states election division should release all data on the ballots it rejected.

US President Donald Trump launches 2020 re-election campaign

The controversial image maker whose own baggage includes resigning from Bill Clintons re-election campaign in 1996 amid a prostitution scandal called Trump one of Americas great presidents with immense achievements.

But the greater tribute is how he defied almost every establishment in the country to achieve what America needed, and our people demanded, writes Morris.

He said voters like Trumps more popular tax, energy and immigration policies better than those of Biden and the Democrats, while crediting the ex-president with bringing more Hispanic voters into the GOP fold.

He defied the economic establishment by getting Congress to pass a massive tax cut, skillfully crafted to aim at the middle class, the working poor, and small businesses. The establishment said cut taxes on the wealthy, and it will trickle down to the rest of society. But Trump knew that trickle-down doesnt always happen. So he made sure his tax cuts were the first in recent history to target the lower middle class the working class. Trump signed a law giving a tax credit of $2,000 per child, Morris writes.

Meanwhile, Biden and other Democrats will have to defend four years of record inflation, surging crime and increased illegal immigration at the southern border.

Proving that Trump would do better? That one is easy. We know that Trump would do better, because when he was president, he did do better, Morris said.

He said America was energy independent when Trump left office.

Who Ran For President The Full List Of 2020 Candidates

The final Democratic candidate has been chosen and will face Donald Trump in the 2020 race for the White House

In 2020, Democratic voters faced a crucial choice: who should be the candidate to take on Trump in the November election? From consensus-minded-pragmatists in the party’s moderate lane, to a Democratic socialist, the contenders put forward a wide range of visions for the future of their party, and country.

At its peak, more than 24 Democratic presidential candidates were competing. Stretched over four decades in age, the field also featured an historic number of women and included multiple African Americans, at least one Latino, a gay navy veteran, a Hindu and a vegan. But as the field has narrowed, it has become less and less diverse. By contrast, only a handful of Republicans jumped in the race to challenge Trump for the nomination. The odds and history were against these candidates from the start, as they tried to unseat a president their party holds in high regard.

Trump, all but assured to win the nomination, has already begun taunting former vice president Joe Biden, setting the stage for a wild, unpredictable, rough-and-tumble election season.

Pennsylvania: Where The Governor Can Unilaterally Shape Elections

How Pennsylvanias election system works:

The biggest threat to the 2024 election in Pennsylvania is state Sen. Doug Mastriano, the Trump-endorsed Republican nominee for governor.

Mastrianos an ardent MAGA Republican who bused hundreds of people to Washington, DC, and was outside the US Capitol on the day of the January 6, 2021, insurrection. He was also a key figure in Trumps efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Pennsylvania. Mastriano organized a state Senate hearing featuring Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, an unauthorized audit of voting machines that ultimately cost him a committee chair position, and a scheme to send fake electors who were favorable to Trump to Congress.

If elected, he would have the power to appoint Pennsylvanias top election official, the Secretary of the Commonwealth. He hasnt named who he intends to appoint if elected, but hes indicated that it would be an individual who shares his philosophy on elections.

As governor, I get to appoint the secretary of state. And I have a voting reform-minded individual whos been traveling the nation and knows voting reform extremely well, Mastriano told Steve Bannon, former chief strategist for Trump, in an April interview. That individual has agreed to be my secretary of state.

How bad it could get:

He has an ability to galvanize people to turn out in person and harm, said Salewa Ogunmefun, executive director of the voting rights group Pennsylvania Voice.

An Examination Of The 2020 Electorate Based On Validated Voters

By Ruth Igielnik, Scott Keeter and Hannah Hartig

Pew Research Center conducted this study to understand how Americans voted in 2020 and how their turnout and vote choices differed from 2016 and 2018. For this analysis, we surveyed U.S. adults online and verified their turnout in the three general elections using commercial voter files that aggregate official state turnout records. Panelists for whom a record of voting was located are considered validated voters all others are presumed not to have voted.

We surveyed 11,818 U.S. adults online in November 2020, 10,640 adults in November 2018 and 4,183 adults in November and December 2016. The surveys were supplemented with measures taken from annual recruitment and profile surveys conducted in 2018 and 2020. Everyone who took part is a member of Pew Research Centers American Trends Panel , an online survey panel recruited through national, random sampling of telephone numbers or, since 2018, residential addresses. This way nearly all U.S. adults have a chance of selection. The surveys are weighted to be representative of the U.S. adult population by gender, race, ethnicity, partisan affiliation, education, turnout and vote choice in the three elections, and many other characteristics. Trump And Biden Head To Pennsylvania

Former president Donald Trump heads to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, today for his first rally of the midterm election season and since the FBI raided his residence.

Wisconsin: A Campaign To Seize Power From A Bipartisan Elections Commission

How Wisconsins election system works:

The success of an effort to put Wisconsins elections in partisan hands would require cooperation from officials up and down the ballot there. Because of the checks and balances the state has put in place, overturning an election would mean getting sign-off from the winners of the secretary of state and gubernatorial races, as well as continued GOP dominance in state legislature contests.

What the GOP is doing:

Trump allies are targeting the Wisconsin Elections Commission, which administers elections and has the authority to investigate and prosecute violations of election laws. It was established in 2015 by the Republican-controlled state legislature and was intended to function similarly to the Federal Elections Commission, with three Republican and three Democratic appointees.

The commission has significant discretion over how elections are conducted, and plays a role in certifying election results. In 2020, after Republicans sought recounts in the large, heavily Democratic counties of Milwaukee and Dane based on false claims of fraud, the commission determined that President Joe Biden had won.

State Republicans have since called for the dissolution of the commission, whose policies, they falsely argue, led to fraudulent votes that cost Trump reelection.

The legislature isnt expected to have a veto-proof majority, however, and that makes who becomes governor important.

Trump As A Stalking Horse

Of course, there was plenty of speculation during the race for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination that Trump was trying to sabotage the GOP candidates by saying outrageous things and making a mockery of the process in a bid to help Hillary Clinton win the election.

“Donald Trump is trolling the GOP,” political reporter Jonathan Allen wrote. Trump also threatened to run for president as an independent, a move many believed would siphon votes from the Republican nominee as other, similar candidates have done in the past.

Highlights From Trump And Biden’s Chaotic First Presidential Debate

We refused any payment. Some said that Trump was suspicious of those he paid, worried that he was being ripped off. We felt that by turning down any formal role in the campaign, we could skirt the infighting that raged inside, Morris said.

We also decided, jointly with the president, that the calls and our consulting role should be kept secret. And so it remained for the ensuing seven months.

Morris also chuckled about what he learned about Trump: You cant change his aggressive, forceful personality.

Trump is Trump. Like it or lump it. Hell never change, and I came to realize that his manner could not be divorced from his successful outcomes. Change one, and you would forfeit the other, he said.

He previously said the 2024 contest could be a rematch between Trump and Hillary Clinton.
