Social Media Use By Donald Trump
|This article is part of a series about|
Donald Trump‘s use of social media attracted attention worldwide since he joined in May 2009. Over nearly twelve years, Trump tweeted around 57,000 times, including about 8,000 times during the 2016 election campaign and over 25,000 times during his presidency. White House said that the tweets should be considered official statements. When Twitter permanently banned Trump from the platform in January 2021 during the final days of his term, his handle @realDonaldTrump had over 88.9 million followers.
For most of Trump’s presidency, his account on Twitter, where he often posted controversial and false statements, remained unmoderated in the name of “public interest”. An investigation by The New York Times published November 2, 2019, found that, during his time in office, Trump retweeted at least 145 accounts that “have pushed conspiracy or fringe content, including more than two dozen that have since been suspended.” On July 16, 2019, the House of Representatives voted mostly along party lines to censure him for “racist comments” he had tweeted two days previously. Trump also spread misinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic.
In May 2021, Trump launched “From the Desk of Donald J. Trump”, a site where he posted short tweet-like announcements it was shut down after less than a month amidst reports that it had failed to attract significant traffic.

Why Was Trump Banned
Mr Trump was locked out of his account for 12 hours on Wednesday after he called the people who stormed the US Capitol “patriots”.
Hundreds of his supporters entered the complex as the US Congress attempted to certify Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election. The ensuing violence led to the deaths of four civilians and a police officer.
Twitter warned then that it would ban Mr Trump “permanently” if he breached the platform’s rules again.
After being allowed back on Twitter, Mr Trump posted two tweets on Friday that the company cited as the final straws.
In one, he wrote: “The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”
Twitter said this tweet “is being interpreted as further indication that President Trump does not plan to facilitate an ‘orderly transition'”.
In the next, the president tweeted: “To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.”
Twitter said this was “being received by a number of his supporters as further confirmation that the election was not legitimate”.
Twitter said both of these tweets were “in violation of the Glorification of Violence Policy”.

President Trumps Chief Spokesperson Liz Harrington Dropped A Moab Of A Tweet Yesterday That Is Causing Liberal Heads To Explode
The lovely Ms. Harrington is President Trumps Chief spokesperson but heres how far-left Wikipedia describes her:
Liz Harrington has been described as the chief spokeswoman for former US president Donald Trump since June 2021, replacing Jason Miller. She is a former spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee.
But when googling Liz Harrington this is what you see first thing in your results:
Online they actually add the word lunatic to Liz Harringtons title. The far-left gangs at Big Tech and Big Media and the communist Democrats cant stand her. This must be because she is effective. They hate those who are effective and stand up.
This tweet from Harrington last night is why the lunatic left hates her.
ICYMI: Did You Know
Heres the picture Harrington tweeted for when Twitter takes this down:

Can President Trump Really Tweet A Highly Classified Satellite Photo Yep He Can
“I think that Twitter is an important platform if for no other reason that some very high-profile political figures, the president included, have made it their platform of choice,” said R. Kelly Garrett, a professor at the Ohio State University’s School of Communication who researches online political communication. He compared Twitter to a “personal news wire,” as journalists amplify what politicians tweet.
The president joined Twitter as in 2009, well before he officially entered politics. And though he upon inauguration, the president has continued to tweet from his original handle, so the official account consists mostly of retweets from his personal account.
According to Shontavia Johnson, an attorney who focuses on the intersection of law and social media, Trump’s tweets should be considered part of the presidential record no matter which account publishes them because of their political import and historical significance.
She cited examples of such tweets from the past several years: one stating Mexico would reimburse Americans for Trump’s proposed border wall, one accusing China of stealing a U.S. Navy research drone, one rebuking then-British Prime Minister Theresa May but tagging the wrong username, and one disparaging the Electoral College system.

Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday puzzled out a new way to retweet his supporters despite his by distributing screenshots to his large email list.
Fox News host Sean Hannity received the honor in a message titled, ICYMI: Sean Hannity Tweet.
Hannity attacked Rep. Liz Cheney , who was ousted from her No. 3 House leadership spot Wednesday morning as a consequence of her continued focus on criticizing Trump.
The message appears to have been deleted from Twitter after it was posted.
The RT was distributed by Trumps Save America PAC, which released many other statements cheering Cheneys downfall. Trump repeatedly slammed her as a warmonger and wrote Wednesday, Liz Cheney is a bitter, horrible human being.
Cheney was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump one week after the , which disrupted certification of President Bidens victory. He was acquitted of inciting an insurrection by the Senate when seven Republicans voted for conviction not enough for a two-thirds vote, as is required.
It was not clear from Trumps screenshot when Hannity tweeted the message or why it is no longer visible on Twitter.

The President Has Fanned Flames Of Unrest Putting New Pressure On Big Tech To Clamp Down On His Divisive Online Rhetoric
Twitter late Wednesday locked President Trump out of his account for the first time, the most punitive step the social media giant has taken against the president, on a day of social unrest and violence in Washington.
, blocking the presidents account for the first time for 24 hours for what it said were two policy violations, although it didnt threaten permanent suspension. It also said it was blocking his Facebook-owned Instagram account.
The social media giants actions were the strongest volleys after a year of heightened tension between Silicon Valley and Trump. They came after months of struggling to combat baseless allegations of a stolen election long stoked by Trump and his allies.
Trump belatedly called for calm on Twitter as the riot at the Capitol earlier Wednesday halted a process to certify Joe Biden as the next president. But his plea came in a now-removed video that was itself laced with disinformation, and he shared the message only after most of the mob had been pushed outside the building leaving a trail of online and offline discord in his wake.
As the mob of Trump supporters stormed the House and Senate, their compatriots online celebrated the chaos, cheering the violence across a wide array of social media sites and calling for bloodshed in the days ahead.
Please support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement, he tweeted. They are truly on the side of our Country. Stay peaceful!

Telling A Different Story
In terms storytelling scholars use, Trump rescripted the world to fit his themes. He took elements of news articles, viral videos, other tweets and whatever else he needed to build his messages. He took storylines that were already in the public sphere and placed new meaning on them to fit his own tale.
During the 2015 lead-up to the Republican primary, for example, the conservative Club for Growth spent US$1 million running negative ads against Trump. But Trump, tweeting, rescripted the story: The phony Club For Growth, which asked me in writing for $1,000,000 , is now wanting to do negative ads on me. Total hypocrites! The Club for Growth was a groveling and fraudulent establishment he was effective and powerful.
Trump would also rescript characters into multiple, sometimes contradictory, messages, depending on the days news. Consider his tweeting about China, which was first a partner, then a trade adversary and finally an invader:
