Trump Speaks At Defiant Pro

President Donald Trumps Most Epic Gaffes of All Time

Amid protests and calls to cancel event in Houston, gun advocates say more regulations not the answer to mass shootings.

Less than 450km from where a gunman killed 21 people at a primary school in Uvalde, Texas, former United States President Donald Trump has headlined a defiant conference of the pro-gun lobby group, the National Rifle Association .

Amid growing calls for stronger gun control measures after the massacre in Uvalde, Trump defended the NRA, which rejected calls to cancel its annual convention.

Every time a disturbed or demented person commits such a hideous crime, theres always a grotesque effort by some in our society to use the suffering of others to advance their own extreme political agenda, Trump said at the event in Houston, Texas, referring to gun reform advocates.

Even more repulsive is their rush to shift blame away from the villains who commit acts of mass violence and to place that blame onto the shoulders of millions of peaceful, law-abiding citizens who belong to organisations such as our wonderful NRA.

The former president called for beefing up school security instead of focusing on gun reform. If the United States has $40bn to send to Ukraine, we should be able to do whatever it takes to keep our children safe at home, he said.

Noem said Democratic congressional leaders are calling for more gun laws that wouldnt have made any difference in stopping the shooter.

Trump Speech Missing Several Of His Favorite Talking Points

Shannon Pettypiece

While President Trump launched attack after attack on Joe Biden, he left out a number of his favorite topics of criticism in his acceptance speech.

He made no mention of mail-in voting, which he has alleged, without evidence, will lead to widespread voter fraud and could prevent the country from ever knowing the result of the election. There is no evidence that mail-in voting is at risk for fraud.

Trump also avoided bringing up Bidens son Hunter, a line of attack his campaign believed at one point would be central to their takedown of Biden. He also made no mention of Bidens running mate Kamala Harris, who his campaign has struggled to find an effective way to criticize.

With protests raging outside the White House gates and in Wisconsin over racial injustice, Trump made only a passing mention of race and there was no mention of racism.

When Is Donald Trump Speaking At Cpac

With the White House Press Room overtaken by the Biden administration and his Twitter account on lockdown, former President Donald Trump has been relatively quiet in the month since his departure from the Oval Office. That could change Sunday.

The 45th president is due to speak this weekend at the 2021 Conservative Political Action Conference, more commonly known as CPAC. The annual three-day summit of conservatism is already underway, but you have to scroll all the way to the end of the CPAC agenda to find Mr. Trump, who is set to close out the event with the final address. He is scheduled to take the stage at 3:40 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday.

The conference marks the first significant gathering of Republicans since the election and its aftermath as the party reckons with the faction that continues to support Trump as its leader and those who think the GOP needs to move quickly beyond the turbulent era of his presidency. Conference organizers, representing the first camp, did not invite any of the 17 Republican members of Congress who voted to support Trumps second impeachment or any major Trump critics.

Trump is expected to use his speech to assert his standing as the head of the party, as well as to harshly criticize Bidens first month in office, including the new presidents efforts to undo Trumps immigration policies.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Inside The Debate Hall: Lots Of Masks And Some Notable Vips

What Donald Trump said about Texas in brazen election night speech

Hallie Jackson, Jonathan Allen and Freddie Tunnard

The view from inside the debate hall: masks. Lots of them. We havent seen anyone without one, though, notably, the Trump family hasnt arrived yet. They were the main ones defying the mask mandate at the Cleveland debate.

The presidents motorcade is set to arrive any minute, and Joe Biden is already here. Seats are marked off for some of those members of the first family Melania, Eric and Ivanka Trump. The former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, is also here in the hall as are some former members of Congress: Democrat Lincoln Davis and Republican Jimmy Duncan Jr. among them.

The arena is bigger and less intimate than the room for the first debate in Cleveland, and in another contrast, people are freely mingling and chatting. The vibe is pretty low-key.

Pete Buttigieg has made several viral appearances on Fox News in recent weeks as a Biden surrogate. On Thursday night, he appeared again and offered a retort to the accusations leveled against Hunter Biden.

If they want to make this about the business deals of a government official, lets talk about the president of the United States having a secret Chinese bank account, Buttigieg said.

The Trump campaign had previously sought to push the accusation that Hunter Bidens relationships in the Ukraine were illegal, and has recently shifted its focus to China.

Biden Ready To Fight Back If Trump Goes After His Family Campaign Says

Five Public Speaking Takeaways From Donald Trump

Ahead of tonights debate, the Biden campaign is telegraphing that if President Trump goes after Joe Bidens family, it plans on attacking him for spreading and amplifying Russian disinformation.

In a pre-debate press call with reporters, the campaigns deputy manager, Kate Bedingfield, said that the campaign expected Trump to continue to bully and attack Hunter Biden and his foreign dealings during tonights debate. She said that Biden is prepared for those attacks as well, hoping to flip the attention to the fact that Trump is more obsessed with Bidens family than Americas families amid a pandemic.

Heres the thing, these attacks are backfiring on Trump. You know, despite leveling them in the first debate, poll after poll showed voters resoundingly thought Biden won that debate because voters are sick and tired of Trumps lies and weve heard the same debunked attacks for over a year, she said.

A senior campaign adviser, Symone Sanders, also commented on the Commission on Presidential Debates decision to mute the microphones, saying that the debate will serve as a test of presidential temperament, especially for the president.

Joe Biden holds a 10-point lead over President Trump ahead of tonights final presidential debate, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll of likely voters released Thursday afternoon.

The Panel Investigating January 6 Will Be Trying To Shock Open

Key pieces of the plan to recreate the madness and fear of January 6, 2021, when American democracy itself was on the brink, began to fall into place Thursday as details of key witnesses for an upcoming hearing emerged â as well as new and powerful evidence that saw the light of day for the first time.

Itâs now clear that the committee investigating the Capitol Hill insurrection â which said the first of its series of hearings this month will take place next Thursday night â plans to showcase the horror of the crazed day when supporters of then-President Donald Trump tried to stage a coup after the 2020 election and to prevent the certification of President Joe Bidenâs victory.

New glimpses of the mountain of evidence piled up by the committee suggest the panel will take viewers deep into Trumpâs inner circle before and during the insurrection to pose the question of why he didnât try to stop it as hours passed.

But the committee faces a critical task in next weekâs first prime-time hearing: To be effective, it must quickly grab a TV audience with a chilling picture of a president abusing power in an illicit bid to keep it.

News on Thursday that former Attorney General William Barr testified to the committee suggests another strand of the panelâs narrative. Barr concluded and said publicly that there had been no significant electoral fraud in 2020, much to Trumpâs reported fury.
