He Signed A Bill This Year Allowing Some Drug Imports From Canada So That Prescription Prices Would Go Down

President Trump has signed a series of executive orders aimed at making it easier for states to import cheaper drugs from Canada. But it is far from clear whether these executive orders will succeed in that aim. This proposal bears no resemblance to Mr. Trumps 2016 promise to use the buying power of the federal government to negotiate lower prices for drugs for Medicare patients, which would save hundreds of billions of dollars over a decade. Mr. Trump has not kept that promise. If he were serious about doing so, he would push Republicans in the Senate to pass the Elijah E. Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act, which Democrats passed last year. Theres no evidence that he has done so.

Trump Opened A Complaint Platform To Report Censorship On Facebook Twitter And Youtube

The Trump administration launched a website in May asking for examples of Americans being censored on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

At the time, the form asked users to submit their name, phone number and whether they are a U.S. citizen, USA TODAY reported. Then it asked for incidents of censorship.

“SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS should advance FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Yet too many Americans have seen their accounts suspended, banned, or fraudulently reported for unclear ‘violations’ of user policies,” the White House website reads.

The website says it is no longer accepting new responses.

Appointing A Supreme Court Justice

Trumps biggest achievement as president so far was set in motion before he was elected. When Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died in early 2016, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the upper chamber would not fill his seat until a new president took office. To reassure conservatives, Trump released two lists of potential Supreme Court nominees.

Less than two weeks into his presidency, Trump chose 49-year-old Neil Gorsuch, a federal judge in Colorado. Due to opposition from Democrats still smarting over McConnells blocking of Obamas choice for the seat, Republicans ultimately had to invoke the nuclear option and change Senate rules to allow confirmation by a simple majority.

Gorsuch helped cement a conservative majority on the court and could serve for decades, while the rule change will make future Supreme Court nominations easier, making this by far the most significant accomplishment of Trumps time in office so far.

Use Of The Office Of President

Trump often sought to use the office of the presidency for his own interest. Under his leadership, the Justice Department, which is traditionally independent from the President, became highly partisan and acted in Trump’s interest.Bloomberg News reported in October 2019 that during a 2017 Oval Office meeting, Trump had asked Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to pressure the Justice Department to drop a criminal investigation of Reza Zarrab, an Iranian-Turkish gold trader who was a client of Trump associate Rudy Giuliani. Tillerson reportedly refused.

Trump attempted to host the 2020 G7 Summit at his Doral Golf Resort, from which he could have made significant profits. Trump visited his properties 274 times during his presidency. Government officials were charged as much as $650 per night to stay at Trump’s properties.

In the lead up to the 2020 election, Trump and Postmaster GeneralLouis DeJoy, a close ally of Trump, sought to hamper the US postal service by cutting funding and services, a move which would prevent postal votes from being counted during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Trump has fired, demoted or withdrawn numerous government officials in retaliation for actions that projected negatively on his public image, or harmed his personal or political interests, including Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey, Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire.

As A Result Of The Republican Tax Bill Small Businesses Will Have The Lowest Top Marginal Tax Rate In More Than 80 Years

Not really.According to the Tax Foundation, the lowest top marginal rate in the past 80 years was 28 percent in the 1980s, although a claw back provision in the 1980s increased the top marginal rate to 33 percent for taxpayers with incomes over certain thresholds. Under current law, the top marginal rate is 37 percent, but pass-through businesses can receive additional tax breaks to lower their top marginal rate to 29.6 percent.

The President Signed Funding Legislation In September 2018 That Increased Funding For School Choice By $42 Million

The Biggest Lies of Trumps Presidency

Mr. Trump, who campaigned in 2016 on eliminating or drastically reducing the size of the Department of Education, tried to slash federal funding for public schools and dramatically increase funding for school choice and voucher programs. Congress overrode him. The $42 million is a small amount compared to the $400 million his administration initially proposed to expand charter schools and vouchers for private and religious schools.

Trump Defunded The World Health Organization Forever And Wants An Investigation Into Its Operations

Trump announced in April that he planned to stop funding the World Health Organization.

Today Im instructing my administration to halt funding of the World Health Organization while a review is conducted to assess the World Health Organizations role in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the coronavirus, Trump told reporters April 14. As the organizations leading sponsor, the United States has a duty to insist on full accountability.

Whether the president can actually stop funding WHO is another question. Congress holds the countrys spending power, so if Congress mandates aid to WHO by statute, Trump has no constitutional authority to deny it, according to an “Expert Forum” analysis published by the American Constitution Society, a left-leaning organization. However, current appropriations laws give the administration some flexibility over WHO funding, so the administration may have the authority to withhold funding until Congress eliminates that flexibility, the analysis explains.

The U.S. still owes WHO money, too.

AFP reported that as of May 31, the U.S. owed WHO $203 million in outstanding assessed contribution fees, according to a WHO status report. As of Aug. 31, the U.S. owes WHO about $99 million, that report states, indicating the U.S. has paid WHO since Trumps claims were made.

Trump Declared Places Of Worship As Essential Services Some Mayors Are Fining People For Going To Church

FWD: LOOK AT ALL OF TRUMP

Its true that Trump deemed places of worship as essential early on in the coronavirus pandemic.

Today, Im identifying houses of worship churches, synagogue, and mosques as essential places that provide essential services, Trump said at a May 22 press briefing. Some governors have deemed liquor stores and abortion clinics as essential but have left out churches and other houses of worship. Its not right. So, Im correcting this injustice and calling houses of worship essential.

Its also true that some mayors are fining churches or church-goers, like in Chicago and Greenville, Mississippi. The Mississippi fines have since been canceled.

The Claim: President Donald Trump Achieved These 10 Things

As President Donald Trump is in the final stretch of his bid for reelection, some of his supporters are pointing to accomplishments the president supposedly has achieved since he took office in 2017.

President Donald Trump over the last week did the following, but you probably won’t hear about it from the News, the reads, accompanied by three muscle-flexing emoji and an American flag emoji.

The post then lists 10 supposed accomplishments, from making vaccines voluntary to busting global trafficking rings. The original poster did not respond to USA TODAYs request for comment.

Heres a breakdown of each claim.

Relationship With The News Media

Early into his presidency, Trump developed a highly contentious relationship with the news media, repeatedly referring to them as the “fake news media” and “the enemy of the people.” As a candidate, Trump had refused press credentials for offending publications but said he would not do so if elected. Trump both privately and publicly mused about taking away critical reporters’ White House press credentials. At the same time, the Trump White House gave temporary press passes to far-right pro-Trump fringe outlets, such as InfoWars and The Gateway Pundit, which are known for publishing hoaxes and conspiracy theories.

On his first day in office, Trump falsely accused journalists of understating the size of the crowd at his inauguration and called the news media “among the most dishonest human beings on earth.” Trump’s claims were notably defended by Press Secretary Sean Spicer, who claimed the inauguration crowd had been the biggest in history, a claim disproven by photographs. Trump’s senior adviser Kellyanne Conway then defended Spicer when asked about the falsehood, saying it was an “alternative fact,” not a falsehood.

The Trump Justice Department obtained by court order the 2017 phone logs or email metadata of reporters from CNN, The New York Times, The Washington Post, BuzzFeed, and Politico as part of investigations into leaks of classified information.

Trump Made Vaccines Voluntary Not Mandatory The Military Will Check Purity And Distribute Vaccines

PART 2: Inspector General FISA Investigation President Trump – Senate Hearing

Every state in the U.S. requires children to be vaccinated against certain diseases as a condition for attending school. Those laws have been put in place by state governments, not the federal government.

For example, all states require vaccinations against DTaP, MMR and polio to attend any school, while the HPV, influenza and Hepatitis A and B vaccines are required by some states, but not all.

All school immunization laws offer exemptions to children for medical reasons, and 45 states plus Washington, D.C., grant exemptions for religious reasons, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Just 15 states allow exemptions for philosophical reasons.

Its possible this claim stemmed from comments the president made at a May 15 press briefing regarding the production of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Were looking for a full vaccine for everyone that wants to get it, Trump said. Not everybody is going to want to get it.

At that same press conference, Trump indicated the military may be involved in the distribution of the vaccine, asserting that once the vaccine is ready the government will deploy every plane, truck and soldier required to help distribute it to the American people as quickly as possible.

American-led strikes against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq began in 2014, predating the Trump administration. In 2018, Mr. Trump claimed in a tweet that ISIS had been defeated and ordered a withdrawal of U.S. troops within 30 days. He eventually gave military leaders more time after their objections.
