In March 2016, Trump addressed E-Verify, an online tool provided by the American government to detect if business employees are unauthorized aliens. Trump declared: “I’m using E-Verify on just about every job … I’ll tell you, it works.” In December 2018, The Washington Times reported that in the 565 companies that President Trump had a financial stake in as disclosed in May 2018, only 5 companies used E-Verify. In January 2019, Trump’s son, Eric Trump, said that The Trump Organization was now “instituting E-Verify on all of our properties as soon as possible”.
In November 2017, more court documents regarding the above situation of the Polish workers were unsealed. They showed that a crew of 200 Polish workers had worked on the demolition, and that Trump had ultimately paid a settlement of $1.375 million, including $0.5 million to the union fund, after appealing a judge’s ruling that he was indeed the legal employer of the Polish workers.
In July 2017, Trump’s applied for visas to hire foreign workers – 15 housekeepers, 20 cooks and 35 servers from October 2017 to May 2018. Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida did the same for 6 cooks.

WASHINGTON President Trump said on Monday evening that he intended to close the United States to people trying to immigrate into the country to live and work, a drastic move that he said would protect American workers from foreign competition once the nations economy began to recover from the shutdown caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, , I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!
In recent weeks, the Trump administration has used health concerns to justify aggressively restricting immigration. Even before the tweet, it had expanded travel restrictions, slowed visa processing and moved to swiftly bar asylum seekers and undocumented immigrants from entering the country, alarming immigration advocates who have said that Mr. Trump and his advisers are using a pandemic to further hard-line immigration policies.
The number of visas issued to foreigners abroad looking to immigrate to the United States has declined by about 25 percent, to 462,422 in the 2019 fiscal year from 617,752 in 2016.

President Donald Trumps supporters often try to justify his anti-immigration rhetoric and policies by saying hes just trying to force people to follow the law when they come to this country. Its not prejudice or xenophobia, they say, its just a matter of expecting people to wait in line.
But if the incident in which Mr. Trump proclaimed a desire for more immigrants from countries like Norway and not from s—hole countries like Haiti and much of Africa wasnt enough to prove otherwise, his administrations actions this week should erase all doubt. Acting director of United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Kenneth Cuccinelli II announced new rules Monday for legal immigrants seeking a green card that would deny them permanent status in this country if they are deemed likely to use public benefits including food stamps and Medicare. In the name of preventing immigrants from being a drain on our nation, the rule would give the Trump administration broad leeway to decide who is worthy and who is not, and to deport those it deems undesirable. The federal government has long been able to deny permanent status to people who are dependent on public benefits, but these new rules stretch the bounds of that principle in a way thats almost perfectly designed to favor immigrants who are white over those who arent.

What Is The Future Of Immigration In The Us
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, increased immigration to the U.S. over the next 40 years would mean a faster growing, diverse, and younger population in the country. However, the population is aging and is expected to continue to do so until about 2060. Increased or decreased immigration during that time could help shift that timing, but it will all depend on how many people come to the U.S.
With an older population, the U.S. will need more young people to work and sustain economic growth, employment, and more in order to continue the path of economic growth the country has been on for decades. Immigrants, both documented and undocumented, will play an essential part in that. It is necessary to continue accepting working-age people into the U.S. in order to continue the economic growth of the country.

Immigrants Hope Registry Saves Immigration Bill
Refugees and Asylum Seekers, including from Venezuela, Denied: At least one speaker at the convention discussed the protection Americans once offered Cuban refugees and spoke sympathetically about the victims of Venezuelas socialist government. For FY 2020, the Trump administration established an annual ceiling for refugees 84% lower than the final year of the Obama administration . As of July 17, 2020, only 7,848 refugees have arrived in the United States in FY 2020.
As of December 2019, 24,451 Venezuelans were in U.S. immigration court facing removal, an increase of 277%, from 6,492 in September 2018, reports the Syracuse University Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse . Rather than make things easier for fleeing Venezuelans, the Trump administration has tightened asylum standards, according to Miami New Times reporter Manuel Madrid, who writes that many Venezuelans consider being deported to Venezuela to be a death sentence.
Despite pleas from religious leaders, the administration has not designated Venezuelans for Temporary Protected Status and has continued to deport people back to Venezuela. Immigration and Customs Enforcement removed more than 900 people to Venezuela between 2017 and 2019. In FY 2016, the last full year of the Obama administration, 182 Venezuelans were removed, compared to 327 in FY 2019 under the Trump administration, an 80% increase.

John Kelly On Trump The Russia Investigation And Separating Immigrant Families
In an interview with NPR last month, White House chief of staff John Kelly acknowledged that most people crossing the border illegally do not pose a security threat.
“The vast majority of the people that move illegally into the United States are not bad people,” Kelly said. “They’re not criminals. They’re not MS-13” gang members.
Kelly defended the administration’s Southern border crackdown, however, arguing that immigrants coming from rural parts of Central America with little education might not easily assimilate into the United States.
“We must maintain a Strong Southern Border,” Trump tweeted Friday. “We cannot allow our country to be overrun by illegal immigrants as the Democrats tell their phony stories of sadness and grief.”
The president made similar comments in a meeting with lawmakers earlier this week.
“We have to be strong on the border,” Trump said Wednesday. “Otherwise, you’ll have millions of people coming up not thousands, like we have now you’ll have millions of people flowing up and just overtaking the country. And we’re not letting that happen.”

But in recent months, the number of apprehensions has rebounded, driven in part by a growing number of children and families. Meanwhile, Trump surrogate Steve Cortes said a soft invasion was happening during a CNN appearance in April of 2018. Rep. Clay Higgins, R-La., said in March that we have D-Day every month on our southern border, referring to border apprehensions. That same month, Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, bragged on his official congressional website that there is a brazen invasion occurring at our border.

Executive Office For Immigration Review
One of the chokepoints in the immigration system is the backlog of cases in immigration courts, which currently totals over 1.1 million cases. In 2010, there were only 262,742 cases in the backlog. No other court system in the United States, at the federal or state level, has the backlog that the immigration courts have.REF To fix the backlog, there is only so much the Administration can do on its own without seeking legislation from Congress.REF
But the Administration does have options to alleviate the problem, and the Trump Administration has taken several steps to drive down the backlog. Some of the changes involved the Executive Officer of Immigration Review .REF The EOIR developed a strategic caseload-reduction plan in 2017, which had five components:
Faced with mounting, unprecedented numbers of invalid claimsa clear abuse of the asylum processas well as fraudulent family units and other aliens taking advantage of the courts misinterpretation of the Flores settlement, the Trump Administration implored Congress to legislatively close these obvious loopholes.REF
Members of Congress, however, have been either incapable or uninterested in passing such immigration legislation. As such, the Trump Administration made several changes via regulatory, policy, and operational means with the goal of returning immigration benefits to their original intent and decreasing fraud.
What Changes Has The Administration Implemented
Undermining asylum: The Trump administration has repeatedly imposed new restrictions on asylum seekers, making it nearly impossible for many people to claim protection in the United States. These restrictions include preventing migrants from applying for asylum if they traveled through another country before reaching the U.S. if they didnt apply in the previous country. The administration has also exported its asylum provision obligations to ill-equipped countries like El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala.
In January 2019, the Trump administration began implementing its Remain in Mexico policy, which forces Central Americans seeking asylum to return to Mexicofor an indefinite amount of timewhile their claims are processed. Since the start of the pandemic, the U.S. government has postponed all immigration court hearings, effectively stranding asylum seekers in Mexico. To make matters worse, asylum seekers are still required to go to their port of entry on the day of their previously scheduled court date to receive a new notice to appearor face a deportation order for not showing up. Now the administration is exploiting the pandemic to impose a categorical ban on people seeking asylum, further endangering the lives of migrantsincluding children.

Border Security And Border Wall With Mexico
Trump has emphasized U.S. border security and illegal immigration to the United States as a campaign issue. During his announcement speech he stated in part, “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems. … They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.” On July 6, 2015, Trump issued a written statement to clarify his position on illegal immigration, which drew a reaction from critics. It read in part:
A study published in Social Science Quarterly in May 2016 tested Trump’s claim that immigrants are responsible for higher levels of violent and drug-related crime in the United States. It found no evidence that links Mexican or illegal Mexican immigrants specifically to violent or drug-related crime. It did however find a small but significant association between illegal immigrant populations and drug-related arrests.
Trump has also called for tripling the number of Border Patrol agents.
Despite campaign promises to build a full wall, Trump later stated that he favors putting up some fences.
