Kamala Harris’s 2020 Presidential Campaign Was A Failure

Before we talk about the next election cycle, lets talk about the election cycle that just passed Kamalas run during the 2020 election didnt amount to much.

After she initially announced that she would be running for president in January 2019, she raised a record amount of donations in the first 24 hours of her campaign, tying the record set by Bernie Sanders for the 2016 Election.

Thats about as far as it went, however. She was able to maintain a wide following well into the 2019 year, but it wasnt enough to reach the commanding candidates like Biden, Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren.

On December 3rd, 2019, Kamala Harris dropped from the race months before being chosen as Vice President for Bidens ticket.

Lack of funding, unorganized campaign management, and lack of popularity were reported to be the causes of her downfall, but as the current Vice President for the next 3 years, she has more than enough time to build a rapport and consider a 2024 run.

Democrats Need An Answer On Education And Race

Call it a “racist dog whistle,” as McAuliffe did call it white grievance, but Democrats have to come up with a convincing way to answer the charges about how children are being taught about structural racism in schools.

“Wherever you look, it looks like these college-educated, suburban white voters, who Democrats thought were breaking their way, they rallied back around ‘Critical Race Theory,’ ” Democratic pollster Cornell Belcher said on MSNBC on Tuesday night.

Joe Biden said Friday he had secured the delegates needed to clinch the Democratic nomination and face Donald Trump in Novemberâs US presidential election.

âFolks, tonight we secured the 1,991 delegates needed to win the Democratic nomination,â the former vice president said on Twitter.

âIâm going to spend every day fighting to earn your vote so that, together, we can win the battle for the soul of this nation.â

Biden passed the 1,991 threshold to secure his partyâs nomination as counting continued from Tuesdayâs round of Democratic primaries.

He had been the presumptive Democratic challenger since Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders dropped out of the race in April and endorsed his onetime rivalâs run at the White House.

Biden reached the threshold with the country wracked by protests over the death of African-American George Floyd at the hands of police.

Floydâs death has reignited long-felt anger over police killings of African-Americans and unleashed a nationwide wave of civil unrest unlike any seen in the US since Martin Luther King Jrâs 1968 assassination.

âThis is a difficult time in Americaâs history. And Donald Trumpâs angry, divisive politics is no answer,â Biden wrote in a post on Medium.

âThe country is crying out for leadership. Leadership that can unite us. Leadership that can bring us together.â

Democrats have been mocking Donald Trump over gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin’s attempts to distance himself from the former president.

Republican Glenn Youngkin is currently running for governor in Virginia against former Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe, who held the position from 2014-2018.

Although Trump has endorsed Youngkin and called him a “great gentleman,” the Republican candidate has subtly tried to disassociate himself from the former president.

The Democratic National Committee flew a plane near Trump’s Florida resort Mar-a-Lago, carrying a banner that read, “why won’t Youngkin let Trump campaign in VA?”

They also erected a billboard in Florida to highlight the former president’s endorsement of Youngkin, believing that associating him with Trump will damage his chances in the November 2 election.

On Thursday, Youngkin criticized attendees of a recent GOP “Take Back Virginia” rally who pledged allegiance to a flag that was said to have been flown on January 6 near the Capitol.

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon appeared at the rally and Donald Trump called in on a phone line.

Why Biden And The Democrats Need A Deal Now

As both parties look ahead toward the 2022 midterm elections, analysts say Democrats will need to sell voters on a more positive message that focuses on their own vision and accomplishments. Still, in an era dominated by negative partisanship in which Americans seem caught in a nonstop cycle of rejecting whichever party is in power thats not necessarily an easy task.

Negative partisanship worked great for Democrats when Trump was in the White House, says Alan Abramowitz, a political scientist at Emory University and author of several papers on negative partisanship. But Republicans were much more motivated to turn out and vote than Democrats this year. … Its tough to be the in party when voters are in a sour mood.

Southern Democrats Used To Be Commonplace

The phrase Indiana ruralDemocratic voter was not always an oxymoron. In the 2000s, the Indiana Democratic Party won by creating coalitions with socially conservative southern Democrats, some of whom hailed from less populous corners of the state.

In fact, one of the most powerful Democrats at the time was the 2012 and 2016 Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Gregg, who still lives in the small town of Sandborn. A former House speaker, Gregg was almost a caricature of a southern Democrat, referring to himself as gun-totin, Bible-quotin.

In 2008, there were more than 20 Democrats in the Indiana General Assembly who represented communities south of Indianapolis, many in rural areas. In the Senate, a Democrat represented almost the entire southern border of the state.

But more than a decade later, there are only five southern Democrats left in either chamber. The change was fairly abrupt, said Kip Tew, a former Indiana Democratic Party chairman.

More than half of those state lawmakers either lost reelection in 2010 or didn’t seek reelection, as the Tea Party movement started gaining steam and then President Barack Obama signed the controversial Affordable Care Act.

“I think southern Indiana folks woke up and realized they were no longer Democrats,” said Tew, who also was state chair of the 2008 Obama presidential campaign in Indiana. “It was a national brand kind of thing.”

The result: Democrats lost all three of those seats.

In an extensive thread, Elliott outlined many examples of Democratic politicians and other leftists advocating for violence as a response to conservatives.

In 2018, Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu of California said on MSNBC that if Trump fired special counsel Robert Mueller, there would be widespread civil unrest as people would take to the streets.

Similarly, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper agreed that if Trump fired Mueller, it would set off a firestorm not only on the Hill but also in the streets.

With all his many faults, low poll numbers, overall un-presidential type behavior, total lack of any legislative accomplishments, and the Russian hacking investigation hanging over his White House. Democrats will still have a very tough time defeating the incumbent president in 2020.

To beat an incumbent president, who has a solid hardcore base of supporters, the Democrats need a new, dynamic, positive candidate. At the moment, there is no one candidate who stands out as the leader of the party.Lets face it. The Democratic leadership has been around for a long time and Hillary Clinton should definitely not run again as she has proven not to be a particularly effective or inspiring candidate.

Former VP Joe Biden should have run last time around. He is a good person with solid blue collar roots who is staying active in national politics. But, he is not a new face for a party looking for a new standard bearer.Senator Bernie Sanders, who became the champion of progressive causes with his surprisingly popular run in 2016, is also not a new face for 2020. Bernie may run again and more power to him if he does, but he also is definitely not a new face for the party.

Senator Elizabeth Warren is also positioning herself as the progressive candidate for the Democrats in 2020. She has a large following but if the Democrats hope to defeat Trump in 2020 they will most likely need a more centrist, pro-business presidential candidate.

The Suburbs Are Still Swing Areas

During the presidency of Donald Trump, the suburbs shifted toward Democrats. They took over the House in 2018, for example, largely because of their wins in center-right-leaning areas.

As a result, many thought college-educated suburbanites might be permanently in Democrats’ camp.

But Tuesday night’s results in both states showed that’s not quite the case.

Youngkin and Ciatarelli were able to do better than Trump did in 2020 in lots of suburban areas â as well as in many cases outpacing Trump in some rural counties.

It’s a warning sign for Democrats, and a roadmap for other Republicans to emulate, with the keys perhaps being image and education as an issue.

WILMINGTON, Ohio A special election next month in Ohios 15th Congressional District features a Republican clinging tightly to former President Donald Trump and a Democrat trying to patch together a new coalition that reaches from suburbia to Appalachia.

The landscape favors the Republican, coal lobbyist Mike Carey. Trump, whose endorsement helped Carey win a crowded primary, carried the district by 14 points in 2020.

But the Democrat, state Rep. Allison Russo, sees an opening for a candidate who resists ideological labels and can build on inroads her party made with college-educated voters in the Trump era. She flipped her legislative district, once a reliable Republican ring around Columbus, by 14 points in 2018.

I know about tough battles, Russo, 45, told a crowd of about 40 gathered this week at a park in Wilmington, about halfway between Columbus and Cincinnati. And I know about getting out and doing the work necessary to reach across the aisle and talk to folks who are Democrats, Republicans and independents.
