Polls Put Trumps Approval Rating Lower

Trumps job approval rating inches higher

Despite the recent decline in Biden’s approval, Trump’s ratings were lower during his time in office.

“Biden’s approval rating has clearly taken a turn for the worse in the past several weeks, but he is still faring better than Trump at this point in their presidencies,” Burden said. “Trump had one of the lowest and steadiest approval ratings of any modern president.”

FiveThirtyEight put the polling average for Trump’s approval rating at 38.8% on Sept. 9, 2017, his first year in office. The lowest point of his term came on Dec. 16, 2017, with an average approval rate of 36.4%.

This claim is also wrong looking only at the YouGov poll.

YouGov reported Trumps approval rating never increased far above 40% and reached a term low of 34% in a poll conducted Nov. 10-14, 2017.

In other words, Trump’s low is well below Biden’s current level in YouGov polling.

According to Gallup, Trumps approval rating ranged between 34% and 49% over the course of his presidency. Trump hit the lower end of that range in January, following the insurrection at the Capitol.

What Would Make You Change Your Mind About Donald J Trump

When Michael Tesler, a political scientist at the University of California Irvine, tries to explain the amazing stability of Trumps approval in his classes, he starts with a question. He asks his students if theres anything Trump could do to make them support him. And hes invariably met by a sea of shaking heads. If you went into Trumps presidency thinking hes a racist, sexist, xenophobic, immoral, narcissistic, corrupt, and incompetent person beliefs held by most Clinton voters then theres literally almost nothing he could do to change your mind, says Tesler.

The same is true in reverse. If you see Trump as the protector of Western Civilization, as Charlie Kirk called him the other night at the RNC, or the protector of white America, as Desmond King and Rogers Smith have called him, defending cherished American values from atheist, left-wing socialists who want to take your guns and put Cory Booker in charge of diversifying your neighborhoods, then theres almost nothing that would make you abandon him, Tesler continues.

But how do we know if were being governed with a bare level of competence?

Polling Average Put Biden’s Approval Rating Higher Than 39%

Experts say approval ratings should be calculated by looking at an average between polls not a single poll. On the day the claim was made, the polling average for Biden’s approval rating was 45.2%.

“The best practice to look at multiple polls and not to fixate on an individual poll, which can be cherry-picked to make inaccurate arguments,” Barry Burden, director of the Elections Research Center and professor of political science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, said in an email.

The website FiveThirtyEight rates how different polls vary in terms of accuracy and statistical bias. It calculates approval ratings for presidents based on a weighted average that takes into account poll quality and uncertainty.

According to that polling average, Biden’s approval rate was 45.2% on the day the claim was posted.

The Facebook post appeared to refer to an Economist/YouGov poll conducted Sept. 4-7. It reported 39% of American adults approved of Biden. YouGov noted this was the first time the majority of Americans disapproved of Biden during his presidency.

However, Burden told USA TODAY this poll was “unusually low.”

“In the last month YouGov has also reported approval ratings of 44% and 50%,” he said. “Taken as a group it is more accurate to say that Biden’s rating is hovering in the mid-40s.”

Outgoing president averaged 41% job approval in office, a record low by four points

President Donald Trump is leaving the White House on a low note, with Gallup on Tuesday announcing hes ending his one term in office with a 34% approval rating. That ties him with Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush for the second-lowest Gallup approval rating as a president leaves office Harry Truman, with a 32% approval rating, still holds the crown when it comes to worst approval rating ever at the end of a presidency.

But whats worse is that Trump has averaged only 41% in job approval during his presidency which Gallup said is the worst of any president since the polling group began tracking approval under John F. Kennedy. In fact, Trumps average approval is four points lower than any other modern presidents including Richard Nixon.

Compounding matters, President Trump, following the recent attack on the U.S. Capitol by some of his supporters, set a new low for his job approval rating right as he was leaving office, which is fairly rare.

Tarnished by last weeks riot at the Capitol, Donald Trump is ending his presidency with his lowest-ever poll numbers.

A new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll pegs Trumps approval at just 34 percent, the lowest in four years of tracking opinions of the presidents job performance. More than six in 10 voters 63 percent disapprove.

That matches other polls conducted over the past week showing Trumps approval rating sliding roughly 10 points following the Capitol riots which Democrats and some Republicans say Trump incited with his false and bellicose rhetoric about the 2020 presidential election.

For nearly four years, Trumps approval ratings have been extraordinarily stable, ranging between the high 30s and high 40s. Trumps denial of the election results and the sacking of the Capitol, however, have managed to do what a failed effort to repeal Obamacare, the white-supremacist violence in Charlottesville, Va., impeachment and other scandals couldnt: erode his once-durable support to new lows.

The drop among independents was similar: Fewer than three in 10 independent voters now approve of Trump 29 percent, down from 38 percent in December.

Biden’s Job Approval Rating Nosedives

  • International
  • TEHRAN – A new poll has followed a similar pattern of other surveys over the past weeks that show a majority of Americans disapprove of U.S. President Joe Biden. However, the latest survey by NBC News has found the American Presidents approval rating has, this time, sunk to an almost record low.

Thats an almost record low among all U.S. Presidents in their first year. Only 42 percent of adults say they approve of Bidens overall job as president. With the key exception of Donald Trump . If you fast forward four years not that much has changed.

It comes on the heels of a difficult few months for Biden. He has faced a new surge of coronavirus cases and deaths , and fallout from the chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan . That is in addition to rising inflation and disappointing unemployment levels. Cant get any worse than that can it? Actually, it can during all this time, the Democratic Party have been fighting among each other over Bidens legislative agenda.

While some Democrats have welcomed Biden on the campaign trail in contrast to 2017, the last time Virginia and New Jersey elected governors, then-President Donald Trump was nowhere to be seen. His approval rating at the time was also very low and neither of the GOP nominees wanted Trump anywhere near their campaigns. That may be attributed to Trumps racist rhetoric that he delivered in public and alarmed many in the country and the international community.

Joe Biden Marks First 100 Days With Better Job Approval Rating Than Donald Trump Ever Achieved

Compared with his predecessor, President Joe Biden has fared much better in the court of public opinion during the first 100 days of his administration.

The latest survey from Gallup, released last week, found that 57 percent of Americans approved of Biden’s job as commander in chief. Forty percent of those polled disapproved and 3 percent had no opinion.

The findings far exceeded those calculated at the 100-day mark of Donald Trump‘s presidency. At that point in 2017, Trump had a 41 percent approval rating.

In fact, Trump never eclipsed 50 percent in Gallup’s approval rating tracker. His highest level of support was 49 percent approval, all of which were recorded in 2020. His lowest point was 34 percent job approval in January 2021, shortly after the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

While Trump’s polling marks were historically low, Biden has also fallen short of the other presidents who served during the past two decades. In their first 100 days in office, Democrat Barack Obama saw a 65 percent job approval rating and Republican George W. Bush experienced 62 percent approval rating.

Along with Gallup’s presidential tracker, Biden also surpassed Trump’s best mark in the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll. The survey showed 55 percent of Americans approved of Biden’s job performancea level of support his Republican predecessor never reached in the survey during his four years in the Oval Office.

Finally, the poll finds 20 percent of registered voters saying their vote in 2022 will be a signal of opposition against Trump and 21 percent saying it will be a signal of opposition against Biden.

A majority of voters 52 percent say their vote won’t be a signal about either Trump or Biden.

“Little to me indicates that Trump, a year after the election, is uniquely a figure that’s driving the vote,” McInturff said.

The NBC News poll was conducted Oct. 23-26 of 1,000 adults 650 of whom were reached only by cellphone and it has an overall margin of error of plus-minus 3.1 percentage points.

The margin of error for the poll’s 820 registered voters is plus-minus 3.4 percentage points.
