Tried To Launch A ‘voter Fraud Hotline’ That Was Flooded By Prank Calls

Donald Trump’s Great Escape: How The Former President Solved His Debt Crisis | Forbes

After he lost the election to Joe Biden, Trump did everything in his power to try and overturn the results. One of his efforts included launching a ‘voter fraud hotline’ where Trump supporters could call in and report anything suspicious they had seen at polling stations. This didn’t result in any substantial evidence being brought forward but did see it inundated with some very funny prank calls.

Son Becomes Company President

Fred’s son Donald joined his father’s real estate business around 1968, initially working in Brooklyn, and rising to become company president in 1971. He began calling the company the Trump Organization around 1973. The younger Trump entered the real estate business in Manhattan, while his father stuck primarily to Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. Donald later said: “It was good for me. You know, being the son of somebody, it could have been competition to me. This way, I got Manhattan all to myself.” By most accounts, Fred himself had set the family’s sights on Manhattan. According to Mary L. Trump, Fred was “intimately involved in all aspects of Donald’s early forays into the Manhattan market,” and Louise Sunshine states that Fred was “behind in every way, shape and form financing of these developments”.

Presidential Campaign And 2011 Hints At Presidential Run

In 2000, Trump ran in the California and Michigan primaries for nomination as the Reform Party candidate for the 2000 United States presidential election but withdrew from the race in February 2000. A July 1999 poll matching him against likely Republican nominee George W. Bush and likely Democratic nominee Al Gore showed Trump with seven percent support.

In 2011, Trump speculated about running against President Barack Obama in the 2012 election, making his first speaking appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference in February 2011 and giving speeches in early primary states. In May 2011, he announced he would not run, and he endorsed Mitt Romney in February 2012. Trump’s presidential ambitions were generally not taken seriously at the time.

Things Donald Trump Did In His First Year As The Most Consequential Former President Ever

In ways both absurd and serious, the 45th president refused to let go of the spotlight or his party and redefined what it means to be a former leader of the free world.

Michael Kruse is a senior staff writer at POLITICO and POLITICO Magazine.

Donald Trump started his time as an utterly unprecedented former president before he was even technically a former president.

On the morning of his last day in office, in the hours before the inauguration of Joe Biden, Trump left the White House and Washington, becoming the first president in 152 years to shun the swearing in of his successor, opting instead at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland for a militaristic send-off that included a 21-gun salute and a poke-in-the-eye playing of Frank Sinatras My Way. He made it clear in his remarks to a few hundred people from a stage on the wind-whipped tarmac that this was no goodbye for good.

We will be back, he promised, in some form.

Its been a year now.

And in these past 365 days, in ways that were totally predictable and in ways that were also absolutely unforeseeable, and in ways that have run the gamut from the gravely serious to the thoroughly absurd, a one-term, twice-impeached president who two weeks before the end of his tenure instigated a deadly insurrection at the citadel of American democracy has obliterated the long-agreed-upon parameters of the post-presidency just as he did with the presidency itself.

And still is.

When He Separated Migrant Children From Their Parents

Donald Trumps bizarre, threatening letter to Erdoan: Dont be a fool ...

Of the many scandalous things that Trump has done in his presidency, the separation of children from their parents at his controversial detention facilities at the US/Mexico border was probably the worst.

Evidence had emerged of migrant children literally being placed in cages at the facility, something which Trump tried to blame Barack Obama for. In June 2019, Trump official Marsha Brown even tried to argue that said children didnt need to be safe and sanitary.

He Drives The Left Crazy And Hes The Only Thing Standing Between America And Socialism

Theres just something delicious about the way that Donald Trump gets into the heads of the Left. He drives them nuts. Theyve finally met their match in this president. He doesnt cower to their attacks he punches back harder than hes ever been hit. And the truth is, hes far better than the alternative.

This November, its up to you to vote wisely and pick the candidate that aligns with your vision of America.

Promotion Of Conspiracy Theories

Before and throughout his presidency, Trump has promoted numerous conspiracy theories, including Obama birtherism, the Clinton Body Count theory, QAnon, the Global warming hoax theory, Trump Tower wiretapping allegations, a John F. Kennedy assassination conspiracy theory involving Rafael Cruz, linking talk show host Joe Scarborough to the death of a staffer, alleged foul-play in the death of Justice Antonin Scalia, alleged Ukrainian interference in U.S. elections, and that Osama bin Laden was alive and Obama and Biden had members of Navy SEAL Team 6 killed. In at least two instances, Trump clarified to press that he also believed the conspiracy theory in question.

During and since the 2020 presidential election, Trump has promoted various conspiracy theories for his defeat including dead people voting, voting machines changing or deleting Trump votes, fraudulent mail-in voting, throwing out Trump votes, and “finding” suitcases full of Biden votes.

Failure: Replacing The Affordable Care Act

The late GOP Sen. John McCain’s iconic “thumbs-down” vote denied Trump a full congressional repeal of former President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law.

But Trump did have success in dismantling parts of the law. His tax bill included a rollback of the tax penalty for those who did not enroll in healthcare.

Trump never offered a replacement for the Affordable Care Act. As a candidate Trump promised “insurance for everybody” and a more immediate replacement to the nearly decade-old ACA. But he didn’t deliver on that as president.

Incited A Violent Attack On The Capitol Building That Left Five People Dead

Has Donald Trump made America great again? Looking back at his presidency

In perhaps the darkest day, in not just Trump’s presidency but in the history of the United States, thousands of armed Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building in a violent attempt at a coup to stop Biden from being certified as the next president by the Senate.

The mob smashed through windows and doors and managed to make their way into the chamber as well as elected officials’ offices, all while Senators and others were locked away for their own personal safety.

The riot led to the deaths of five people including one police officer and came just hours after Trump had held a ‘Save America March’ outside of the White House where he had encouraged the crowd to march down Pennsylvania Avenue and make their presence known. Trump failed to immediately act to stop the riot and eventually tried to distance himself from any blame. The aftermath saw members of Congress call for Trump to be immediately impeached, whereas on social media, Trump’s Twitter account was permanently suspended and he was locked out of many other platforms to prevent any further incitements of violence. For all of the scandals that has dogged Trump’s presidency the image of his rabid supporters draping Trump flags over the steps of the Capitol, intimidating the press and overall posing a threat to democracy will be the enduring legacy of his presidency. The hearings opening up information of that day are only just starting

Well, that was exhausting.

Watch Full Speech: Biden Calls Out Threats To Democracy In ‘soul Of The Nation’ Address

Biden laid into those who have embraced Trump’s false claim that the 2020 election was rigged and sought to disrupt the coming 2022 elections, calling the belief a threat to the fundamentals of American democracy.

“Democracy cannot survive when one side believes there are only two outcomes to an election: either they win, or they were cheated,” Biden said. “And thats where the MAGA Republicans are today.”

Republicans offered their own retort ahead of Biden’s speech. Appearing hours earlier in Bidens hometown, Scranton, Pennsylvania, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., accused the president of being divisive and called on him to apologize for labeling Trump supporters as semi-fascists at a recent campaign event.

Instead of trying to bring our country together to solve these challenges, President Biden has chosen to divide, demean and disparage his fellow Americans simply because they disagree with his policies. Thats not leadership, McCarthy said.

When the president speaks tonight at Independence Hall, the first lines out of his mouth should be to apologize for slandering tens of millions of Americans as fascists.

Donald Trump Is A Good President But Only For The Top 1%

On all economic measures, from jobs to health to GDP to disposable income, the president has failed America

As the worlds business elites trek to Davos for their annual gathering, people should be asking a simple question: have they overcome their infatuation with the US president?

Two years ago, a few rare corporate leaders were concerned about climate change, or upset at Donald Trumps misogyny and bigotry. Most, however, were celebrating the presidents tax cuts for billionaires and corporations and looking forward to his efforts to deregulate the economy. That would allow businesses to pollute the air more, get more Americans hooked on opioids, entice more children to eat their diabetes-inducing foods and engage in the sort of financial shenanigans that brought on the 2008 crisis.

Today, many corporate bosses are still talking about the continued GDP growth and record stock prices. But neither GDP nor the Dow is a good measure of economic performance. Neither tells us whats happening to ordinary citizens living standards or anything about sustainability. In fact, US economic performance over the past four years is Exhibit A in the indictment against relying on these indicators.

One reason for declining life expectancy in the US is what Anne Case and the Nobel laureate economist Angus Deaton call deaths of despair, caused by alcohol, drug overdoses and suicide. In 2017 , such deaths stood at almost four times their 1999 level.

Donalds eldest sister, Maryanne Trump Barry, eventually served as a U.S. district court judge and later as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit until her retirement in 2011. His elder brother, Frederick, Jr. , worked briefly for his fathers business before becoming an airline pilot in the 1960s. Freddys alcoholism led to his early death in 1981, at the age of 43.

Donald Trump attended New York Military Academy , a private boarding school Fordham University in the Bronx and the University of Pennsylvanias Wharton School of Finance and Commerce , where he graduated with a bachelors degree in economics. In 1968, during the Vietnam War, he secured a diagnosis of bone spurs, which qualified him for a medical exemption from the military draft . Upon his graduation Trump began working full-time for his fathers business, helping to manage its holdings of rental housing, then estimated at between 10,000 and 22,000 units. Legal Affairs And Bankruptcies

Fixer Roy Cohn served as Trump’s lawyer and mentor for 13 years in the 1970s and 1980s. According to Trump, Cohn sometimes waived fees due to their friendship. In 1973, Cohn helped Trump countersue the United States government for $100 million over its charges that Trump’s properties had racial discriminatory practices. Trump and Cohn lost that case when the countersuit was dismissed and the government’s case went forward. In 1975, an agreement was struck requiring Trump’s properties to furnish the New York Urban League with a list of all apartment vacancies, every week for two years, among other things. Cohn introduced political consultant Roger Stone to Trump, who enlisted Stone’s services to deal with the federal government.

As of November 2016, Trump and his businesses had been involved in more than 4,000 state and federal legal actions, according to a running tally by USA Today.

While Trump has not filed for personal bankruptcy, his over-leveraged hotel and casino businesses in Atlantic City and New York filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection six times between 1991 and 2009. They continued to operate while the banks restructured debt and reduced Trump’s shares in the properties.

Republicans To Trump: Pony Up More Cash In Battle For Senate

Mitch McConnell is indirectly nudging Donald Trump to help Republicans try to flip the Senate, part of a broader GOP campaign to get the former president to open up his well-stocked coffers for the rest of the party.

The minority leader is advising Trump-backed candidates and senators with good relationships with the 45th president to prod him to transfer millions of dollars from his leadership PAC to super PACs supporting Trumps favored candidates, according to two people familiar with McConnells entreaty. Trump has repeatedly trashed McConnell over the past 18 months, including calling for his ouster as GOP leader. But the two have a shared goal of turning the Senate red.

The private push to get Trump to financially engage in a number of battleground states comes as the former president sits on roughly $99 million, stored in his PAC. That unused cash is drawing increased attention from GOP leaders as the midterms approach, with Trumps own endorsed candidates lagging in polls and trailing their Democratic opponents in fundraising.

Sen. Josh Hawley said Masters will probably not be able to win without more assistance.

But others were more hopeful.

Delayed Signing The Covid Relief Bill

President @Donald J Trump talks investing, business, money and success

Towards the end of December, Trump belated signed a $900bn Covid relief bill into law, after millions of Americans had already lost their unemployment benefits. Although the bill had been delayed for months thanks to disagreements between Democrats and Republicans, Trump had initially refused to sign the bill calling it “wasteful spending” and actually wanted the stimulus checks to be increased from $600 to $2000, which we can probably all agree is a good thing. However, the delay put many unemployed Americans in desperate situations as was exemplified by the replies to this tweet by journalist Dan Rather.

I am thinking of all those desperate for extended unemployment benefits tonight. Heartbreaking. The abject cruelty, https://t.co/yHV3Yq1twj Dan Rather 1609038547
