It’s hard to find evidence of an extant thriving Melania Trump brand. The White House’s biographical page of the first lady formerly touted her QVC line, but that text has since been removed. A search of QVC turns up no Melania Trump-branded products.

It’s unclear whether Melania Trump plans to launch the product lines described in the suit, and how much money she would stand to profit if she did. One possible market indicator: Demand for Ivanka Trump-branded merchandise seems to have cooled, as retailers including Nordstrom, Belk, and Neiman Marcus have recently dropped her products from their websites.

So why, oh why, would this dumb rumor keep popping up years after that first tweet? Well, apart from the fact that people just love conspiracies in general, this particular conspiracy seems to fit nicely with Melania’s personality and the relationship she appears to have with her husband.

Esquire points out that the first lady famously avoids the press, sleeps in a separate bedroom from her husband, often refuses to hold his hand, and really does seem to be faking her way through a lot of those public events she’s compelled to attend. So it’s really not a huge leap from there to think that she might have found some Melania lookalike or another so she doesn’t have to actually pretend to like being the first lady . There was also that time when she actually vanished for 24 days, which fueled all kinds of speculation about what she might have been doing. So perhaps to avoid similar future gossip, she decided to use a stand-in.

It is true that Melania is one of the least visible first ladies the United States has ever had, but that doesn’t necessarily mean she’d go so far as to hire someone else to walk in her ridiculously expensive high heels. Still, given a nice, comfortable pile of cash, a husband she actively dislikes, and duties she never really asked for or wanted, the thought must have at least crossed her mind.

Last week, the Justice Department sued Winston Wolkoff, alleging that she broke a confidentiality agreement she signed while working at the White House. Winston Wolkoff has said she has a right to defend herself against “defamatory falsehoods.”

In one of the recordings made after Winston Wolkoff left the White House, Melania Trump told her: “Don’t be so dramatic. You were not fired. This came to that because of politics.”

So, it basically went down like this. Someone said something on Twitter, and Twitter went “It’s true!!” And now fake Melania is a thing because that’s what happens whenever anyone says anything dumb on Twitter.

Another one seemed to be implying that Melania not only had a double but that the double was a robot. But many of the tweets were lighthearted and most users didn’t seem to think that there was any real meat to the rumor. “Can we drop this #fakemelania stuff now, folks,” said another user. “@realDonaldTrump might notice Melania has hired a body double so she doesn’t have to be around him much.”

It wasn’t just Twitter, though, the whole dumb theory made headlines and was even given some time on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which had its own fake Melania Trump denying there was such a thing as a fake Melania Trump. So really, you can’t blame everyone for having fun with the idea. At least we’re not all obsessing over trivial stuff, like health care and climate change, right?

It’s Not True Sorry But It’s Just Not

Fake Melania is fun and the Twitter comments and late-night sketches are great and cathartic, but at the end of it all there really just isn’t any compelling evidence to support the idea that the first lady uses a body double. According to Esquire, the one thing that most of those fake Melania discussions leave out of the equation is all the other photos that are taken on the same day as the conspiracy-supporting photos, that show the first lady wearing the exact same clothes and standing in the exact same places, in which she very clearly looks like Melania Trump and not like a shorter Secret Service agent version of herself.

So is it all just harmless fun or is it just as bad as all the other dumb conspiracy theories that have been circulating the globe since the beginning of time? It certainly is a lot more entertaining than the fake Moon landing conspiracy or the “who really shot JFK?” one. It also seems to bug the heck out of the White House, which is probably one of the reasons why so many people are still gleefully talking about it. And if it gets our collective minds off health care and climate change and the fact that no one in America gets along and the whole world is basically going to heck, well, bring it on. Maybe it will help us all Be Best, at least indirectly.

First lady Melania Trump referred to adult film star Stormy Daniels, who claimed she had an affair with President Trump, the porn hooker in a new recording revealed by her former friend and close adviser.

Stephanie Winston Wolkoff unveiled the recording on Trumps former lawyer Michael Cohens podcast Mea Culpa on Monday, in which the first lady complained about Daniels photoshoot in Vogue.

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, alleges that Trump paid her $130,000 in hush money to remain quiet about the relationship she claimed to have had with the president in July 2006.

Trump has denied the relationship.

Wolkoff, who wrote about her relationship with the first lady in Melania and Me, has released numerous conversations she recorded during their time together.

She and Melania Trump ended their relationship in 2018 following a bitter dust-up over the $26 million that Wolkoffs company was paid to help plan the Trump inauguration.

Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, a New York socialite turned author of a tell-all book about her relationship with Melania Trump, has released another recording of Americas first lady in embarrassingly candid conversation, this time discussing an adult film star accused of an affair with her husband.

On the recording Melania Trump discusses Stormy Daniels, who the first lady calls the porn hooker. Wolkoff released the recording on Mea Culpa, a podcast presented by Michael Cohen, Donald Trumps former lawyer and fixer.

Cohen has also written a tell-all but Wolkoffs book, Melania & Me, has perhaps become more of a headache for the White House, as the author releases recordings of conversations with the first lady that she says she made in self-defence.

Wolkoff left the White House amid investigations of fundraising for the inauguration. In February 2018, the New York Times reported that from $107m raised, a company started by Wolkoff received nearly $26m. Wolkoff reportedly banked $500,000. The Times also reported that a government watchdog accused the inaugural committee of fiscal mismanagement at its worst.

Wolkoff, who denies wrongdoing, says Melania Trump refused to defend her.

Her father, Viktor Knavs , was from the nearby town of Radee and managed car and motorcycle dealerships for a state-owned vehicle manufacturer. Her mother Amalija came from the village of Raka and worked as a patternmaker at the children’s clothing manufacturer Jutranjka in Sevnica. As a child, Melanija and other children of workers at the factory participated in fashion shows that featured children’s clothing. She has an older sister, Ines, who is an artist and her “longtime confidant”, and an older half-brotherwhom she reportedly has never metfrom her father’s previous relationship.

Knavs grew up in a modest apartment in a housing block in Sevnica, in the Lower Sava Valley. Her father was in the League of Communists of Slovenia, which espoused a policy of state atheism.
