The Latest On President Trumps Health

The president takes a cholesterol-lowering drug called rosuvastatin, and because his cholesterol level is a little high, Jackson said, the dosage of this medication will be increased.

He also takes finasteride for male-pattern hair loss. That medication can also be used to treat prostate issues at higher doses.

Trump also takes aspirin daily to prevent heart disease, a multivitamin and applies a cream called ivermectin, as needed, to treat skin condition rosacea, Jackson said. Rosacea is a condition that causes redness on the face.

How Was The Presidents Mental Status Assessed

At Trumps urging, his physician conducted a brief screening test called the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. A score less than 26 may indicate a cognitive issue Trump scored a 30/30, his doctor said.

This is a basic test of cognitive function using things such as identifying pictures of animals, elementary math equations and word memory questions.

Was Trump Given Supplemental Oxygen

Critical care physicians often give patients additional oxygen when the level of oxygen in their blood falls below 90%. People who have contracted COVID-19 can often have trouble breathing because of the diseases impact on the lungs, and they can require either a low flow of oxygen through a tube under the nose, or a larger mask pushing oxygen into their lungs.

Conley was evasive when asked about whether Trump was ever given supplemental oxygen. The doctor repeatedly said Trump is not on oxygen right now. When pressed by reporters, he allowed that Trump had not needed oxygen at all on Saturday, and he said, Thursday. No oxygen. None at this moment And yesterday with the team when we were all here, he was not on oxygen. Conleys answer left open the possibility that Trump was given supplemental oxygen while he was at the White House on Friday before being taken by helicopter to Walter Reed.

The question is important because the need for oxygen can be one indicator of the severity of the COVID-19 illness.

President Trump was taken to Walter Reed Medical Center in October to receive treatment for Covid-19.

Trump said he was doing very well before he was seen walking under his own power to Marine One to head to Walter Reed.

According to reports at the time, Trump was experiencing mild symptoms of a low grade fever and congestion early Friday before he was taken to the hospital.

Later that night Trump reportedly experienced a high fever and there were two occasions where his blood oxygen levels dropped.

Trump was given the steroid dexamethasone and was treated with Remdesivir, an antiviral drug before being released a few days later.

Here we are a few months later and the Biden White House is leaking health information about President Trump to The New York Times.

The New York Times rolled out a report citing four people familiar with Trumps condition claiming Trump was way sicker with Covid-19 in October than publicly acknowledged.

At the age of 74, President Trump quickly recovered from Covid-19 which makes him look tough.

WASHINGTON President Donald J. Trump was sicker with Covid-19 in October than publicly acknowledged at the time, with extremely depressed blood oxygen levels at one point and a lung problem associated with pneumonia caused by the coronavirus, according to four people familiar with his condition.

His prognosis became so worrisome before he was taken to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center that officials believed he would need to be put on a ventilator, two of the people familiar with his condition said.

The people familiar with Mr. Trumps health said he was found to have lung infiltrates, which occur when the lungs are inflamed and contain substances such as fluid or bacteria. Their presence, especially when a patient is exhibiting other symptoms, can be a sign of an acute case of the disease. They can be easily spotted on an X-ray or scan, when parts of the lungs appear opaque, or white.

The new revelations about Mr. Trumps struggle with the virus also underscore the limited and sometimes misleading nature of the information disclosed at the time about his condition.

NPR’s Lulu Garcia-Navarro speaks to Dr. Ashish Jha, dean of Brown University’s School of Public Health, about President Trump’s latest bill of health.

    LULU GARCIA-NAVARRO, HOST:

In a new memo, President Trump’s doctor says his COVID-19 patient is, quote, “no longer considered a transmission risk to others” and that his symptoms have improved. But is he free of the coronavirus or at least out of the woods? Many, many questions remain. Dr. Ashish Jha is the dean of Brown University’s School of Public Health, and he joins us now. Good morning.

ASHISH JHA: Good morning. Thank you for having me on.

GARCIA-NAVARRO: Great to have you. This memo from Dr. Sean Conley, dated yesterday, does not say that the president’s PCR test was negative or that the coronavirus was not detected. So explain how you might assess a patient not to be a transmission risk if they’re still carrying the virus, potentially.

JHA: Yeah. So this note by Dr. Conley was really cryptic and a bit convoluted, but the way we generally assess whether somebody is no longer a transmission risk is by just waiting a certain period of time after they have onset of symptoms. So if they had mild to moderate disease, the evidence says that waiting 10 days after onset of symptoms, they should be – they should no longer be a transmission risk. And if they had more severe disease, you usually have to wait 15 to 20 days before you can clear them for interacting with others.

    JHA: Thank you.

      How Is Trump Feeling Now

Conley said that the President had a mild cough and some nasal congestion and fatigue on Thursday, but is feeling better today. The President had a fever Thursday into Friday, but has been fever-free since Friday morning, Conley said. Conley would not specify how high temperature the presidents fever had been. Dr. Sean Dooley, another member of Trumps medical team, said that Trump told him on Saturday that he felt like he could walk out of here today. But with the more dire image painted by Meadows comments about Trump not seeming on the path to a full recovery, its not clear what the reality is of how sick Trump felt on Saturday.

Kushner, a presidential adviser and the husband of Trumps eldest daughter, Ivanka, has sown chaos by creating an independent White House coronavirus team. The Washington Post reported that many West Wing aides view his group as a shadow task force thats muddling the chain of command.

In the early going, Kushner also reportedly advised Trump to view the emerging outbreak principally through a public relations lens. Many have suggested the real public relations problem was treating a pandemic as a public relations problem.

Is Donald Trump’s Mental Health Becoming Dangerous Medical Experts Weigh In

President Donald Trumps temperament has always been a big part of his political brand. Depending on who you ask, he is either refreshingly frank or shockingly unpresidential. But increasingly, critics of the president have gone from criticizing his rhetoric to worrying about his mental fitness for office. His critics now include mental health professionals after several news stories, as well as the presidents own tweets, revealed Trump continues to believe in several thoroughly debunked conspiracy theories.

At no other time in U.S. history has a group of mental health professionals been so collectively concerned about a sitting president. This is not because he is an unusual person his presentation is almost typical for a forensic psychiatrist like myself whose patients are mostly violence offenders but it is highly unusual to find such a person in the office of presidency. For the U.S., it may be unprecedented for many parts of the world where this has happened before, the outcome has been uniformly devastating.

A group of us put our concerns into a book, “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump: 27 Psychiatrists and Mental Health Experts Assess a President.” That book became an instant New York Times bestseller. Within days, it was out of stock at the big outlets and sold out in bookstores around the country. One of the nations largest publishers could not keep up with the demand for weeks. Clearly, our concerns were resonating with the public.

Robert Redfield Cdc Director: The Punching Bag

Redfield, known for sporting three-piece suits no matter the weather, is a virologist and veteran HIV/AIDS researcher who took the helm at CDC in 2018.

While Redfield, in name, is an essential part of the administrations pandemic response strategy, he hasnt been a vocal presence and he hasnt appeared at a White House briefing since March 9.

Rep. Katie Porter , a freshman lawmaker known for her tough lines of questioning on Capitol Hill, took Redfield to task last week at a hearing on Capitol Hill. Citing an obscure law that would allow the CDC to waive costs associated with testing for a disease, she bludgeoned him into pledging to invoke the authority, making coronavirus tests free for all Americans.

As the CDC has struggled to ensure that there are even enough tests available for Americans experiencing Covid-19 symptoms, the New York Times recently described him as portly, sometimes expressionless, and circled back to call his speech plodding and overly technical.

The letter also indicated that Trumps blood sugar level was 99 milligrams per deciliter, and his triglycerides, which are a type of fat found in the blood, were 61 mg/dL. For a fasting blood glucose test, which measures sugar, a level between 70 and 100 mg/dL would be considered normal.

Trump takes a statin, called rosuvastatin, to treat high cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and he takes a low-dose aspirin, according to the doctors letter.

The letter also indicated that Trump was screened for prostate cancer, which resulted in a low score, meaning there was no evidence of cancer. He had a colonoscopy in 2013 and a transthoracic echocardiogram to examine his heart in 2014. Both tests appeared to be normal.

The letter also mentioned that Trumps testosterone level was 441.6.

A testosterone test measures the amount of the male hormone in the blood, and normal measurements for these tests typically are 300 to 1,000 nanograms per deciliter among men and 15 to 70 among women, according to the US National Library of Medicine.

From the scientific perspective, it would be interesting to see what kinds of tests hes had, Mishori said. My guess is that hell have whats called a VIP or executive physical: a very thorough and lengthy affair with multiple specialists and manytests, such as EKG, carotid artery ultrasound, urinary test, PSA test and more.

White House Gives Confusing And Incomplete Answers About Trumps Health As President Says He Is Feeling Well

The White House on Saturday created a startling amount of confusion on the status of President Trumps health and precisely when he contracted covid-19 issuing conflicting statements and injecting uncertainty into the nations understanding of the presidents well-being and whom he and his associates may have exposed to the novel coronavirus.

At a news conference at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda on Saturday morning, Trumps medical team suggested that the president tested positive for the virus earlier than initially disclosed by the president. Trumps physician, Sean P. Conley, later issued a clarification through the White House on that timeline, as well as the time frame in which the president was administered Regeneron, an antibody cocktail that is part of the complement of drugs Trump has taken to fend off the virus.

Conley also declined to answer specific questions about the presidents health, including how high his fever rose in recent days, when he last tested negative for the virus and whether he was ever administered supplemental oxygen since being diagnosed. A senior administration official later confirmed that Trump was given supplemental oxygen at the White House on Friday before going to Walter Reed.

The statement led to confusion, both because of how it was made public and because it seemed to contradict what the presidents doctors said minutes earlier.
