Trump Comes Right Out And Admits He Worked The Political System
He has indeed done this, and its probably one of his more effective ideas at selling himself to a broader audiencethe image of a former big business political influencer who has now changed his stripes and is ready to tell everyone about those seedy things he once did.
The implication, obviously, is that he wouldnt resort to those sorts of relationships if he were in office, and that might or might not be true. But Trump simply paying lip service to the idea that politicians are all bought and paid for isnt exactly new or dynamic. To the contrary, its a cliché how candidates for political office are keen to indict the current climate in Washington as corrupt and needing reformin many cases, right up until the moment they get there.
An Analysis Of President Donald Trumps Use Of Language
04.2018 | Tiffany Markman
Is Trumps unique brand of presidential oratory deliberate and strategic, is it the disjointed output of a disordered mind, or is it something else?
Like him or hate him, President Donald Trump is a unique politician because he doesnt speak like one. In many ways, hes used language to create a brand for himself one that leverages a feeling of strength, a sense of determination, and an impression that he can get the job done.
Sedensky points out that Trumps is a brand of presidential oratory not previously recorded different from what the public come to expect.
Now, is this deliberate and strategic, or are Trumps explosive noun phrases, self-interruptions, departures from the theme, flashes of memory and side remarks symptomatic of a person with a concentration problem?
Lets look at six of the linguistic devices commonly used in Trumpian speech: hyperbole, repetition and intensifiers directness sentence fragments digressions and segues grade level and sales talk.
For or against?
On the one hand, Barton Swaim, one-time speechwriter for former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, points out that Trumpian speeches are characterised by broken sentences and bizarre asides.
Theyre not sustained arguments but rather a mishmash of disjointed statements that dont combine into something greater. Are these the output, as many journalists, academics and scientists suggest, of a disordered mind?

Presidential Campaign And 2011 Hints At Presidential Run
In 2000, Trump ran in the California and Michigan primaries for nomination as the Reform Party candidate for the 2000 United States presidential election but withdrew from the race in February 2000. A July 1999 poll matching him against likely Republican nominee George W. Bush and likely Democratic nominee Al Gore showed Trump with seven percent support.
In 2011, Trump speculated about running against President Barack Obama in the 2012 election, making his first speaking appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference in February 2011 and giving speeches in early primary states. In May 2011, he announced he would not run, and he endorsed Mitt Romney in February 2012. Trumps presidential ambitions were generally not taken seriously at the time.
I Also Want My Kid To Know That How We Treat People Matters
There are different ways to interpret the parable above. Some folks go so far as to never speak about another person. For me, there is a time and place to discuss bad behavior.
I dont want my daughter to feel like she must hide truth or abuse in some effort to do the right thing. Words have power, and we have a duty to ourselves and others to speak out when we see injustice.
Theres a difference, though, between speaking up and gossiping. Theres a difference between revealing an injustice to heal and criticizing a person because you simply dont like them.
Such differences can be too subtle for a child to understand. So, its an ongoing conversation. But most kids understand from an early age that name-calling is wrong. They all know what its like to encounter a bully.
And thats how I explain Trump.
We have a President who bullies anyone who doesnt agree with him. Hes been caught lying on more than one occasion, but he consistently blames others. Treating others poorly is the mark of a poor leader, and poor character.
Of course, when we mistreat other people, it doesnt only hurt them. It hurts us as it weakens our character. I dont know how much of my answers will even make sense to my daughter. But I tell her in hopes that as she gets older, she will think twice before criticizing others to inflate her own ego.

Adults Are Not Always Right And Our Kids Need To Know That
If Donald Trump is going to be good for anything, perhaps its this. Hes a great cautionary tale. Many children grow up under the instruction to always mind their elders and do what they say because theyre in charge.
It might be the greatest disservice we can give our kids, this notion that adults are always right. Such a teaching stunts personal development in adulthood, and it also puts our children in danger of abuse.
Our kids need to know that not every grownup has their best interests in mind. To suggest otherwise is negligent, and Trumps association with numerous sexual assault allegations and racism shouldnt go ignored when we discuss injustice or the Presidency.
The office of President used to be held in high regard. Our kids deserve to know how and why that changed. They deserve to know that all leaders arent created equal in terms of honesty or kindness.

Fixer Roy Cohn served as Trump’s lawyer and mentor for 13 years in the 1970s and 1980s. According to Trump, Cohn sometimes waived fees due to their friendship. In 1973, Cohn helped Trump countersue the United States government for $100 million over its charges that Trump’s properties had racial discriminatory practices. Trump and Cohn lost that case when the countersuit was dismissed and the government’s case went forward. In 1975, an agreement was struck requiring Trump’s properties to furnish the New York Urban League with a list of all apartment vacancies, every week for two years, among other things. Cohn introduced political consultant Roger Stone to Trump, who enlisted Stone’s services to deal with the federal government.
As of November 2016, Trump and his businesses had been involved in more than 4,000 state and federal legal actions, according to a running tally by USA Today.
While Trump has not filed for personal bankruptcy, his over-leveraged hotel and casino businesses in Atlantic City and New York filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection six times between 1991 and 2009. They continued to operate while the banks restructured debt and reduced Trump’s shares in the properties.
Rule #3 Avoid Frontal Attacks
If you are about to say Trump is an idiot or Trump is a Russian puppet or the like, then bite your tongue. Incidentally, if you want to know, I tend to think Trump is both an idiot and a dangerous puppet but Kimberly is not ready for this harsh reality. If you have to tell a relative that she has a serious disease, you will try to do it nicely, with tact and gradually. With Kimberly, any other approach with the Trump disease will send her in denial, and you will not make any inroads.

Is Donald Trump To Blame For Baby Formula Shortage
Questions have been raised as to whether former President Donald Trump should shoulder more of the blame for the current baby formula shortage due to a trade deal the U.S. signed in his final year in office.
The current lack of formula has been linked to the closure of Abbott Nutritions plant in Sturgis, Michiganwith Abbot being only one of only a handful of companies in the U.S. that produces almost all baby formula sold in the country. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration also recalled several formula brands over fears the product was contaminated with bacteria.
Trump and a number of other GOP figures are using the nationwide shortages to attack President Joe Biden as the party hopes to retake control of both the House and Senate in Novembers midterms.
However, a number of people have suggested that a trade agreement the U.S. entered into during Trumps administration has also severely hampered the ability to import formulas from other countries to help deal with the crisis.
In July 2020, the U.S. entered into the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement , which discouraged formula imports from Canada due to an increased surcharge per kilogram.
Trump bears much of the blame for the current shortage of baby formula in the U.S, since his Administrations USMCA free trade agreement has made it virtually IMPOSSIBLE for our country to import infant formula from Canada.

Chuck Todd Holds Sen Rick Scotts Feet To The Fire Over Trumps Election Lies
Scott, a Donald Trump supporter who voted to overturn the 2020 election result in the former presidents favor, was asked about a recent MSNBC poll that showed that just 22% of Republicans believe President Joe Biden was legitimately elected. Why is that? Todd asked.
I can tell you Joe Biden is the president. We went through the constitutional process that, you know, he was elected, Scott said. Now, I do believe theres a lot of buyers remorse, he added, criticizing Biden on inflation and his withdrawal from Afghanistan.
I understand what youre saying, Todd interrupted, but why then youre part of the 22% that believe he was legitimately elected. Why do four in five Republicans not believe that?
Youd have to ask them, Scott said, not mentioning the fact that Trump and his allies in politics and right-wing media have continuously spread disinformation and doubt about the election and insurrection in the year since the vote.
WATCH: Sen. Rick Scott , whos charged with helping GOP get control of the Senate, responds to Trumps comments from weeks ago that reiterate false claims of a stolen election.: Why hasnt President Trump conceded?I think youd have to ask Donald Trump.

Is there any part of that statement that you agree with? Todd asked the senator.
Approval Ratings And Scholar Surveys
Trump was the only president to never reach a 50% approval rating in the Gallup poll dating to 1938. The approval ratings showed a record partisan gap: 88 percent among Republicans, 7 percent among Democrats. Until September 2020, the ratings were unusually stable, reaching a high of 49 percent and a low of 35 percent. Trump finished his term with a record-low approval rating of between 29 percent and 34 percent and a record-low average of 41 percent throughout his presidency.
In Gallups annual poll asking Americans to name the man they admire the most, Trump placed second to Obama in 2017 and 2018, tied with Obama for most admired man in 2019, and was named most admired in 2020. Since Gallup started conducting the poll in 1948, Trump is the first elected president not to be named most admired in his first year in office.

President Trump often complained about the deep state of career civil servants who, he asserted, were determined to undermine his presidency. He promised to drain the swamp, and his aide Steve Bannon predicted the deconstruction of the administrative state.
But it was his own presidential appointees who most visibly resisted his directives. Political appointees are expected to be the most loyal advocates of a presidents policy agenda, riding herd on the many bureaucracies of the executive branch. Yet Trumps appointees in the White House, cabinet, military, and intelligence community refused to carry out many of the presidents directives to an extent unprecedented in the modern presidency. President Trumps appointees went well beyond the normal disagreements about policy that are typical in every administration they resorted to slow walking orders, refusing to comply with directives, and even outright sabotage. Leadership is central to the presidency. The resistance to President Trump by his highest level officials illustrates how his own appointees judged his leadership.
In August 2017, Trump wanted to fulfill a campaign promise to withdraw from the U.S. free trade agreement with South Korea, and a letter was prepared to that effect. Cohn thought that if Trump saw the letter, he would sign it so Cohn quietly removed it from Trumps desk. Eventually Secretary of Defense James Mattis talked the president out of abandoning the agreement.
Lets Talk About The Elephant In The Room
In his book The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided By Politics and Religion, the social psychologist Jonathan Haidt offers a useful metaphor to explain why reason so rarely prevails in political debate:
he mind is divided, like a rider on an elephant, and the riders job is to serve the elephant.
