Governors Race Looms Over Rally
Gov. Mike DeWine did not attend Trumps rally and recently tested positive for COVID-19, but his campaign staff greeted people at the fairgrounds earlier Saturday. Attendees cast the governor as a Republican in name only and criticized his response to the pandemic.
As long as they get DeWine out, Im good with it, Dayton resident Steve Callahan said of the race.
DeWines opponents are hoping to capitalize on that frustration. Former U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci was at the rally, and Canal Winchester farmer Joe Blystone peppered the fairgrounds with campaign signs.
Who Else Has Trump Endorsed In Michigan And Will They Be There
Trump has made a bunch of endorsements this year and last, some of which have been pretty confusing. For instance, he endorsed state Rep. Steve Carra, R-Three Rivers, to run against U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, who voted to impeach Trump for instigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Then, a couple of weeks ago, Trump dis-endorsed Carra and endorsed U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga, R-Holland Township, in that race. Trump has endorsed about 10 people running for state legislative seats, most if not all of whom have a tie to Maddock and her husband, as well as some other folks running for Congress. That includes businessman John James, who lost two races for U.S. Senate after being endorsed by Trump, who is running in a newly drawn Macomb County district.
Expect most of those locally who have been endorsed by Trump to be in attendance, though its only certain that two others are speaking U.S. Rep. Lisa McClain, R-Bruce Township, who represents the area where the rally is being held, and John Gibbs, a former Trump administration official who is running for the Republican nomination against U.S. Rep. Peter Meijer, R-Grand Rapids, who also voted to impeach Trump.
Also by the way: Trumps endorsements in Michigan from his years as president did not pan out. Of the seven he made, according to the website Ballotpedia, only one McClains in 2020 was for a winning candidate.

Trump Pushes Back Nebraska Rally Due To Inclement Weather
Former President Trump delayed a scheduled rally in Nebraska on Friday amid the threat of severe weather.
Trump was set to stump for his preferred candidate in the Nebraska gubernatorial race, Charles Herbster, at the Friday evening rally in Greenwood, Neb. But he postponed those plans, citing the potential for severe storms in the region and raising the possibility that he could head to the state on Sunday instead.
Thank you to all who waited in line for our Save America Rally tonight in Greenwood, Nebraska. Because of severe weather, including the possibility of 60 mph+ wind, hailstorms, and maybe even tornadoes, I will not be coming to Nebraska tonight, but rather, weather permitting, will be there this Sunday night, May 1st, Trump said in a statement.
The most important thing is to keep you safe, and that cannot be done with such a terrible forecast, he continued. Thank you to Charles W. Herbster and his wonderful staff for working so professionally with us. See you on Sunday!
The Nebraska gubernatorial primary is slated for May 10. Trump has endorsed Herbster in that race, though his support has proved controversial.
Herbster has denied the allegations against him, accusing GOP rivals, including Gov. Pete Ricketts, of being behind the effort.

Trump Seeking To Maintain Gop Sway Holds First Rally Since Jan 6
The former presidents speech in Ohio, made on behalf of a challenger to a Republican congressman who voted to impeach Mr. Trump, reflected both his power over the party and his diminished status.
- Read in app
WELLINGTON, Ohio Former President Donald J. Trump returned to the rally stage on Saturday evening after a nearly six-month absence, his first large public gathering since his Save America event on Jan. 6 that resulted in a deadly riot at the Capitol.
On Saturday, the same words Save America appeared behind Mr. Trump as he addressed a crowd of several thousand at a county fairgrounds in Wellington, Ohio, about 35 miles southwest of Cleveland.
He repeated familiar falsehoods about fraudulent 2020 votes. He attacked Republican officials for refusing to back his effort to overturn the election results including Representative Anthony E. Gonzalez of Ohio, who voted to impeach Mr. Trump, and whose primary challenger, Max Miller, was the reason for Mr. Trumps visit. The former president praised Mr. Miller as they appeared onstage together.
Mr. Trump remains the most powerful figure in the Republican Party, with large numbers of G.O.P. lawmakers parroting his lies about a stolen 2020 election and fearful of crossing him, and many in the party waiting to see whether he will run again for the White House in 2024.
Do you miss me? Mr. Trump asked in one of his biggest applause lines. They miss me, he declared.

Whats Trump Doing On The Capitol Hill Riot Anniversary
The Capitol Hill riot is another partisan event in American history. While many Republicans denounced the violence, there are still many who justify the action and say that the 2020 election was rigged.
Trump was scheduled to hold a press conference on Jan. 6 at . However, he canceled the event and in his very Trump way blamed the total bias and dishonesty of the January 6t Unselect Committee of Democrats. He also blamed two failed Republicans and the fake news media.

Liz Cheney: Trump Using More Extreme Language Than What Caused Jan 6 Attack
Rep. Liz Cheney said on Sunday that former President Trump is using more extreme language than he did prior to the Jan. 6 attack at the Capitol.
Trumps rhetoric about the 2020 presidential election being stolen has been blamed for motivating many of his supporters who attempted to prevent Congress from certifying the results.
At a rally before the insurrection, he told his supporters: We fight like hell. And if you dont fight like hell, youre not going to have a country anymore.
Cheney told CBS News correspondent Robert Costa in an interview on Sunday Morning that the former president was only becoming more inflammatory as the next elections approach.
You know, we are not in a situation where former President Trump has expressed any sense of remorse about what happened, she said.
We are in fact in a situation where he continues to use even more extreme language, frankly, than the language that caused the attack. And so, people must pay attention. People must watch, and they must understand how easily our democratic system can unravel if we dont defend it.
Trump has endorsed hundreds of candidates in the upcoming midterms who reiterated his claims of election fraud, while backing opponents of those lawmakers and state officials who have crossed him over the election.
Cheney also told Costa that she believes the Republican Party nowadays is a cult, with many members aligning themselves with Trumps even when his actions undermined democracy.

How Big A Crowd Is Expected
This is an often tricky issue with Trump, who has a habit of inflating his crowd sizes. In this case, township officials say they expect somewhere between 8,000 and 10,000 people.
It’s anyone’s guess if that number will be low or high. But it does have some fire officials in Washington Township concerned. For one thing, they say the rally is outside the approved use of the Michigan Stars Sports Center space, and it’s possible the number of attendees could be well above the site’s safe occupancy limit. There also are questions about whether there is enough parking and what the effect of traffic will be on local roads.
Trump Briefly Mentions Biden And Calls Him Sleepy Joe
From CNN’s Betsy Klein and Kevin Liptak
Though he has repeatedly slammed Hillary Clinton tonight, President Trump made two brief references to 2020 rival Joe Biden in Orlando at his 2020 kickoff rally.
While touting the economy under his administration, Trump referenced former President Barack Obama’s “magic wand” comments regarding the GDP.
“Well tell Sleepy Joe that we found the magic wand. Sleepy guy,” he said, quickly moving on to the next portion of his speech.
He also made a passing reference to Biden earlier when he was talking about China.
“We have never taken in 10 cents from China. We would lose $500 billion a year with China. We rebuilt China. They have done a great job, but they took us for suckers. And that includes Obama and Biden. They took us for suckers,” Trump said.
He did not mention any of the other Democratic contenders by name.

Biden Says He Started The Vaccination Program Despite Trump Rollout
Former President Donald Trump will hold his next campaign-style rally in Alabama later this month, his political organization announced Monday.
Trump will travel to Cullman, located about halfway between Birmingham and Huntsville on Interstate 65, to deliver remarks on Aug. 21, according to Save America. The rally will take place on the same day the state Republican Party holds its summer meeting, also in Cullman.
The 45th president won Alabama by more than 25 percentage points in both the 2016 and 2020 elections. However, while Trump traveled to the Yellowhammer State in 2019 to take in the college football showdown between Alabama and LSU, he has not delivered a speech in the state since September of 2017.
On that occasion, Trump visited Huntsville to campaign for then-Sen. Luther Strange in the special election to fill the seat of Jeff Sessions, whom Trump had tapped to be his attorney general. Strange lost a primary runoff to controversial jurist Roy Moore, who was in turn defeated by Democrat Doug Jones amid allegations of sexual misconduct by Moore.
Transcript Of Trumps Speech At Rally Before Us Capitol Riot
President Donald Trump spoke at a rally near the White House on Jan. 6 before a mob of his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol to try to stop Congress from certifying President-elect Joe Bidens victory. Trump was impeached Wednesday by the U.S. House on a single charge of incitement of insurrection.
Heres a transcript of Trumps Jan. 6 speech:
Well, thank you very much. This is incredible.
Media will not show the magnitude of this crowd. Even I, when I turned on today, I looked, and I saw thousands of people here. But you dont see hundreds of thousands of people behind you because they dont want to show that.
We have hundreds of thousands of people here and I just want them to be recognized by the fake news media. Turn your cameras please and show whats really happening out here because these people are not going to take it any longer. Theyre not going to take it any longer. Go ahead. Turn your cameras, please. Would you show? They came from all over the world, actually, but they came from all over our country.
I just really want to see what they do. I just want to see how they covered. Ive never seen anything like it. But it would be really great if we could be covered fairly by the media. The media is the biggest problem we have as far as Im concerned, single biggest problem. The fake news and the Big tech.
We will not let them silence your voices. Were not going to let it happen, Im not going to let it happen.
