Iowa National Democrats Criticize State Republicans For Supporting Trump After Jan 6 Riot

Trump Campaign Encourages Masks At Next Rally | MSNBC

Iowa Democratic Party Chair Ross Wilburn criticized state Republicans for supporting Trump after his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in January.

“Iowa Republicans have tied themselves to a man who attacked the foundations of our democracy throughout his time in office,” Wilburn said in a statement. “Just nine months ago, he incited a violent mob to attack his own Vice President and threaten the lives of lawmakers who were simply fulfilling their constitutional duty to certify our election.”

A slew of Iowa’s Republican leaders warmed up the crowd before Trump, including Reynolds, Grassley and U.S. Reps. Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks.

Reynolds led the crowd in a chant of “USA” and criticized Biden on his immigration policies, mentioning that she visited the U.S.-Mexican border this week.

“I was just there this week,” she said. “You know whos never been there? Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. They dont care. They dont care whats happening at the border.”

Vice President Kamala Harris visited the border in June.

Reynolds mentioned Biden’s COVID-19 response, eliciting boos from the crowd.

“They dont respect you,” she said of Democrats. “They dont respect your faith, your values. They dont think youre capable of making your own decisions, and they dont think you should. And this is what America looks like under Democratic leadership, but Im here to tell you were fighting back.”

Trumps Rallies Get Scant Media Attention And Look Like An Oldies Tour

It is unprecedented for a former president to hold rallies to undermine the current president, but Trump is increasingly following the trajectory of a one-hit-wonder who never scored a follow-up success.

The empty field may be a perfectly fine venue, but as a candidate in 2016, Trump was playing football stadiums in Alabama, so the fact that the former president will be playing his regional hits like Lock Her Up,Build The Wall, and Stolen Election, in an empty field seems like quite the comedown.

Trumps oxygen was free mainstream media attention for everything that he did, but that is long gone now.

The failed former one-term president cant be totally ignored because he has raised over $100 million to destroy democracy, so even if his rally is in a farm field in Alabama, the important thing is that he will draw an adoring crowd who act as foot soldiers in his war against America.

Trump is a stale oldies act, but he is an oldies act that is trying to end democracy.

Trump Hints At 2024 Ambitions If Hints Are $90 Million In The Bank And Two Advisers From Iowa

Although Trump talked briefly about electing Republicans to Congress next year, his speech sounded more like that of a candidate seeking another run at the presidency in 2024.

“We will quickly complete the border wall, and we will end illegal immigration once and for all,” he said, running through a list of promises. “We will have to start it all over again. It would have been so much better if we had an honest election, but well be able to do it again.”

He speculated about Stacey Abrams, a former Georgia gubernatorial candidate, running for president.

“Lets run against Stacey Abrams, Id like that,” he said.

Trump has left open the door to trying to reclaim the White House, though he hasn’t made any official declarations. According to The Washington Post, Trump was eager to announce his 2024 candidacy in August as the American withdrawal from Afghanistan turned chaotic. Advisers talked him out of it, according to the Post.

Trump never left the political arena, even as he boarded Marine One to leave the White House shortly before Biden’s inauguration in January. He launched a political action committee, dubbed Save America, soon after Biden won the Electoral College in November.

Within weeks of leaving office, his reelection PAC transferred tens of millions of dollars to the new PAC. By midsummer, it was sitting on more than $90 million, according to the most recent federal financial filings. The Save America PAC hired two GOP consultants with deep Iowa ties.

What To Watch For

How Trump continues to tease a 2024 run. In an interview with the Daily Wire, an online conservative outlet, earlier this month, Trump said his supporters will be very happy with his decision about whether to run again in 2024. I look forward to doing an announcement at the right time, Trump told Daily Wire host Candace Owens. As you know, its very early. But I think people are going to be very, very happy when I make a certain announcement. You know, for campaign finance reasons, you really cant do it too early because it becomes a whole different thing.

Trump Supporters From Near And Far Gather At Iowa State Fairgrounds

Hours before the rally began, thousands of supporters and merchants selling Trump paraphernalia lined up at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

Among the revelers was T. Trump, a Vietnamese immigrant who traveled with other Vietnamese immigrants from California. T. Trump and others said they legally changed their last name to Trump out of respect for the “king.”

“When you have a king that really works hard … the people take over his name,” said T. Trump, 55, wearing an American-flag-themed cowboy hat. “Wherever Trump goes, we came here for freedom. We don’t want to lose this country. You were born free, you want to live free, you want to die free.”

Diana Johnson, 66, and Lori Ediger, 58 sisters from Nebraska arrived at the fairgrounds at 5:30 a.m.

Ediger was so excited, she couldn’t sleep.

“This guy’s a man of his word,” Ediger said. “He does what he says he’s going to do.”

Both were decked out in American-flag-themed clothing and Trump 2024 attire.

“Biden shouldn’t be in the White House,” Johnson said. “Period.”

Sheryl Robins, a retired nurse from Osceola, said she was glad to see the energy inside the fairgrounds. It was her first Trump rally since 2016.

She said she likes how Trump brought his background as a businessman to the White House and how he supported veterans and the economy. She said she’s been unhappy with how Biden has handled those issues.

Robins said she wanted to hear what changes Trump would make if he runs again in 2024.

However, Stephen Fowler of GPB News and NPR estimated 8,000 to 10,000 people were in attendance about an hour before Trump was scheduled to start speaking.

Theres probably about 8-10kish people here between whats in front of the stage and wrapped around the press riser.

Still an hour before Trump.

Fowlers estimate was shared about three hours after Packers estimate.

However, Fowler later amended his estimate and said that 8,000 to 10,000 might actually be high. He wrote: The Trump Perry rally did not quite fill up the event space cordoned off for it, so 8-10,000 may be a high side estimate. However, he added, the crowd was very enthusiastic.

Trump Seeking To Maintain Gop Sway Holds First Rally Since Jan 6

The former presidents speech in Ohio, made on behalf of a challenger to a Republican congressman who voted to impeach Mr. Trump, reflected both his power over the party and his diminished status.

By Jeremy W. Peters

WELLINGTON, Ohio Former President Donald J. Trump returned to the rally stage on Saturday evening after a nearly six-month absence, his first large public gathering since his Save America event on Jan. 6 that resulted in a deadly riot at the Capitol.

On Saturday, the same words Save America appeared behind Mr. Trump as he addressed a crowd of several thousand at a county fairgrounds in Wellington, Ohio, about 35 miles southwest of Cleveland.

He repeated familiar falsehoods about fraudulent 2020 votes. He attacked Republican officials for refusing to back his effort to overturn the election results including Representative Anthony E. Gonzalez of Ohio, who voted to impeach Mr. Trump, and whose primary challenger, Max Miller, was the reason for Mr. Trumps visit. The former president praised Mr. Miller as they appeared onstage together.

Mr. Trump remains the most powerful figure in the Republican Party, with large numbers of G.O.P. lawmakers parroting his lies about a stolen 2020 election and fearful of crossing him, and many in the party waiting to see whether he will run again for the White House in 2024.

Do you miss me? Mr. Trump asked in one of his biggest applause lines. They miss me, he declared.

Trump To Hold Rallies In Iowa Georgia

Details are still being arranged for the two events, but a source familiar with the matter confirmed to The Hill that the two states will host Trump for rallies.

Iowa is a crucial state on the election calendar, traditionally holding the nation’s first nominating contest. Georgia is a key swing state that went for a Democratic presidential nominee for the first time in decades in 2020 and has been the epicenter of Trumps unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud.

Trump has looked to maintain his perch as the de facto head of the Republican Party, attending fundraisers, holding rallies and doling out endorsements to candidates across the country who are eager to tap into his connection with the GOP electorate.

Those efforts in part have kept him at the top of most polls of potential 2024 primary candidates, indicating hed be the odds-on favorite to win the GOP presidential nomination in three years if he decides to make a third White House run.

The former president raised eyebrows earlier this month when he hired two top GOP operatives in Iowa.

Fox News Confirms: Trump To Hold Rally Next Month At Iowa State Fairgrounds

extraordinarily dangerous trump rally draws grave

Former President Donald Trump is set to return to Iowa next month where he will hold a rally in Des Moines, a source familiar with the former presidents political operation has confirmed to Fox News.

The rally, first reported by the Des Moines Register, will be held on October 9 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. This will be Trumps first trip back to the first-in-the-nation caucus state since the 2020 election.

As reported by the Des Moines Register, Trump returned to Iowa frequently in the closing days of the 2020 election, holding a rally in Des Moines on Oct. 15, 2020. He last visited Iowa for a rally in Dubuque on Nov. 1, 2020 two days before the election.

Trump won Iowa in both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections. He edged out Biden in the 2020 presidential election in Iowa, receiving 53.2 percent of the states vote versus Bidens 45 percent. Trump carried the state by 9.4 percentage points in 2016.

Trumps visit to the Hawkeye state raises speculation as to whether the former president will seek to return to the White House through the 2024 presidential election.

Last week, Trump took aim at President Joe Biden for his withdrawal from Afghanistan with an ad titled Failure.

The spot backed by a very modest ad buy ran briefly on cable TV, according to officials with Trumps Save America PAC, which produced the commercial. Save America is also currently fundraising off the ad.

Fox News Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.
