Biden And Trump Release Dueling Thanksgiving Messages

Garlands Message To Trump Was Put Up Or Shut Up Says Weissmann

President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and former President Donald Trump issued messages on Thursday morning wishing people a happy Thanksgiving.

In video messages, Biden and Harris both stressed the importance of being thankful for the opportunity to gather in person for Thanksgiving this year after being apart last year.

Trump, meanwhile, released a written statement in which he focused on enjoying this Thanksgiving knowing that a wonderful future lies ahead.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. This is always a special time in America, Biden said in his message, alongside his wife, Jill. But this year, the blessings of Thanksgiving are especially meaningful.

The first lady continued on to explain that after being apart last year, we have a new appreciation for those little moments we cant plan or replicate.

Trump Doubles Down On Calls To Donate Directly To Him

Former President Trump doubled down on his calls for Republicans to donate to his leadership PAC rather than the GOP amid a growing feud over the partys use of his name and likeness in its fundraising.

In a statement put out by Save America, Trumps PAC, the former president berated RINOs and fools while maintaining he supports the Republican Party. Its the latest escalation in the fundraising dispute that began over the weekend.

I fully support the Republican Party and important GOP Committees, but I do not support RINOs and fools, and it is not their right to use my likeness or image to raise funds, Trump said, using the acronym for Republicans in name only.

So much money is being raised and completely wasted by people that do not have the GOPs best interests in mind. If you donate to our Save America PAC at DonaldJTrump.com, you are helping the America First movement and doing it right. We will WIN, and we will WIN BIG! Our Country is being destroyed by the Democrats! he added.

The statement was the latest indication that Trump has no intention of appeasing the Republican National Committee after it brushed off a cease-and-desist letter from his lawyers demanding it stop referencing Trump in its fundraising and merchandising.

However, Trump in part made his personal fortune off of leasing his name and has been protective in his public and private lives of how other individuals and bodies used his name to benefit other candidates.

Archives Told Trump In April That Fbi Would Examine More Than 100 Classified Documents Returned From Mar

Former president Donald Trump returned more than 100 classified documents, comprising more than 700 pages, to the National Archives in January, according to a letter released by the Archives on Tuesday.

Acting Archivist Debra Steidel Wall also notified Trumps lawyer Evan Corcoran that the agency would provide the FBI access to 15 boxes of materials in order to investigate whether those records were handled in an unlawful manner and conduct an assessment to determine if any damage might have resulted from the improper handling of materials, according to the May 10 letter.

The more than 100 documents turned over in January were among the materials in 15 boxes of records recovered by the Archives from the former presidents Mar-a-Lago club earlier this year, after nearly a year of back and forth over missing presidential documents between Trumps legal team and the agency charged with preserving the nations federal records.

As the Department of Justices National Security Division explained to you on April 29, 2022: There are important national security interests in the FBI and others in the Intelligence Community getting access to these materials. According to NARA, among the materials in the boxes are over 100 documents with classification markings, comprising more than 700 pages. Some include the highest levels of classification, including Special Access Program materials, Steidel Wall wrote.

Read The Bogus Letter Trump Justice Department Ally Wanted To Send To Georgia

Watch Lindsey Grahams message to Trump about running in 2024

The first public hearing of the congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol featured a broad look at then-President Donald Trumps efforts to overturn Joe Bidens victory in the 2020 election.

One key piece of evidence featured: A letter that a Trump ally at the Justice Department wanted to send to Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, House Speaker David Ralston and Senate President Pro Tem Butch Miller in late December 2020. The letter was part of Trumps effort to enlist the Justice Department in his campaign to overturn the election in Georgia and other swing states.

Jeffrey Clark, a senior Justice Department official allied with Trump, wanted the department to intervene. He drafted the extraordinary letter to Georgia officials, dated Dec. 28, 2020.

The letter said the Justice Department had significant concerns about fraud that may have affected the outcome of the election in Georgia and other states. As evidence, it cited allegations raised in a Georgia Senate report and in a Trump lawsuit. And it urged Georgia officials to convene a special session of the General Assembly to consider invalidating Georgias official election results and selecting the winner themselves.

On Thursday the House committee cited Clarks letter as evidence of Trumps effort to use the Justice Department to overturn Bidens victory on the false premise that the election was stolen.

Ivanka Trump Used A Personal Email Account To Send Hundreds Of Emails About Government Business Last Year

Ivanka Trump sent hundreds of emails last year to White House aides, Cabinet officials and her assistants using a personal account, many of them in violation of federal records rules, according to people familiar with a White House examination of her correspondence.

White House ethics officials learned of Trumps repeated use of personal email when reviewing emails gathered last fall by five Cabinet agencies to respond to a public records lawsuit. That review revealed that throughout much of 2017, she often discussed or relayed official White House business using a private email account with a domain that she shares with her husband, Jared Kushner.

The discovery alarmed some advisers to President Trump, who feared that his daughters practices bore similarities to the personal email use of Hillary Clinton, an issue he made a focus of his 2016 campaign. He attacked his Democratic challenger as untrustworthy and dubbed her Crooked Hillary for using a personal email account as secretary of state.

Some aides were startled by the volume of Ivanka Trumps personal emails and taken aback by her response when questioned about the practice. She said she was not familiar with some details of the rules, according to people with knowledge of her reaction.

The White House referred requests for comment to Ivanka Trumps attorney and ethics counsel, Abbe Lowell.

Don’t Miss: Did Trump Get Impeached Yet

    What Have Witnesses Said

The January 7 speech was seen by Mr Trumps aides as an effort to make up for his inaction the day before, when he waited hours to tell the rioters to leave the Capitol and then when he did, in a video filmed in the Rose Garden, he told the rioters they were very special.

In the video released by Ms Luria, Trump aide Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trumps husband, says he had spoken with other aides and they were trying to put remarks together for the president.

We felt like it was important to further call for de-escalation, Mr Kushner tells the committee.

When the committee asks Mr Kushner why Mr Trump crossed out specific lines, he responds, twice: I dont know.

Former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson said the scramble to get Mr Trump to speak again on January 7 was partly because of large concern within the White House that some of his cabinet officials might try to invoke the constitutional process of the 25th Amendment to remove him from office.

The newly released video also includes testimony from John McEntee, then the director of the White House presidential personnel office and one of Mr Trumps closest aides at the time.

Mr McEntee says in the video Mr Kushner asked him to nudge this along to make sure Mr Trump delivered the speech, and confirms the former US president was reluctant to do so.

Pat Cipollone, the former top White House lawyer, also says he believes Mr Trump should have forcefully laid out the consequences for the rioters.

Emails Reveal New Details Of Trump White House Interference In Cdc Covid Planning

So I got a fundraising letter from Trump with a return envelope. So I ...

The documents released by a congressional committee lay out a timeline for how the Trump White House began to downplay the dangers posed by Covid-19.

    11/12/2021 05:04 PM EST

New emails and documents released by a congressional committee investigating the Trump administrations handling of the pandemic show the extent to which top White House officials interfered in the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions efforts to warn Americans about Covid-19.

The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis has conducted interviews over the last several months about how former President Donald Trump and his closest confidantes, including former White House adviser Scott Atlas and son-in-law Jared Kushner, tried to steer the course of the federal response, sidestepping the interagency process.

On Friday, the committee released emails and transcripts with former senior CDC officials about the White Houses attempts to sideline the agency at critical moments at the beginning of the U.S. outbreak.

The emails and transcripts detail how in the early days of 2020 Trump and his allies in the White House blocked media briefings and interviews with CDC officials, attempted to alter public safety guidance normally cleared by the agency and instructed agency officials to destroy evidence that might be construed as political interference.

The CDC did not respond to a request for comment.

Redfield eventually signed the order despite Cetrons opposition.

Trump Faces Questions In A Lawsuit

A lawyer for the plaintiff, Benjamin Dictor, stated that Trump was questioned on various topics that included his comments made at the campaign rallies, where they allege he had seemingly encouraged security personnel to treat protesters harshly, as per AP report. The lawsuit filed by five persons of Mexican origin living in New York have alleged that Trumps bodyguards assaulted them in Manhattan on 3 September, 2015. The people were, as per the AP report, protesting comments that Trump made about Mexico and Mexican immigrants.

According to AP, Benjamin Dictor, the plaintiffs lawyer, mentioned that Trump behaviour in response to the questions matched his public image. Without divulging details into how Trump handled the questioning, he revealed that the former presidents session proceeded like other depositions.

Dictor declined to comment on the substance of Trumps testimony and added that questioning of former President proved that no one is above the law.

Benjamin Dictor said, While we will not comment on the substance of Mr. Trumps testimony at this time, we hope todays events serve as an example that our institutions have prevailed and no one is above the law, as per AP.

The Publication Of The Letter Citing Baseless And Debunked Claims Was Criticized For Pushing The Traditional Boundaries Of A Letters

Twitter may be maintaining its ban on Donald Trump, but the former president is finding other ways to get his message out.

The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday published a lengthy letter to the editor from Trump charging, inaccurately, that the 2020 presidential election won by Joe Biden was rigged.

The nearly 600-word letter is replete with loosely sourced and largely debunked claims of fraud in Pennsylvania, a state that President Biden won by 81,660 votes, handing him 20 electoral college votes that helped secure his victory.

Trump took issue with an Oct. 24 piece from the Journals reliably conservative editorial board, which argued that the statewide margin between Trump and Biden was too vast for a debate over the status of approximately 10,000 mail-in ballots that arrived after the Election Day deadline to be germane to the outcome. The country is lucky the election wasnt closer, the board wrote. If the election had hung on a few thousand Pennsylvanians, the outcome might have been picked by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Well actually, the election was rigged, which you, unfortunately, still havent figured out, Trump retorted baselessly in his letter, before listing a few examples of how determinative the voter fraud in Pennsylvania was. Trump cited talking points from Audit the Vote PA, a little-known organization that has promoted unsubstantiated claims of election fraud, which he described as highly respected.

More On The Trump Documents Inquiry

In all, the government has recovered more than 300 documents with classified markings from Mr. Trump since he left office: that first batch of documents returned in January, another set provided by Mr. Trumps aides to the Justice Department in June and about 100 seized by the F.B.I. in the search.

Mr. Trump and the Justice Department are in the midst of a court fight over the classified documents found in the search. A federal judge has ordered the Justice Department not to use those documents in its criminal investigation pending a review by an independent arbiter of whether the material is protected by executive privilege or attorney-client privilege.

The Washington Post first reported on Friday that Mr. Philbin had told the archives that there were no sensitive or classified materials in the boxes.

A spokesman for Mr. Trump did not respond to a message seeking comment. A spokeswoman for Mr. Philbin declined to comment.
