Trump said the FBI conducted a search on his Mar-a-Lago home on August 8, 2022.

“My beautiful home, Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents,” Trump said in a statement, adding: “They even broke into my safe.”

A person familiar with the situation told CNN that investigators appeared to be focused on one area of the estate, particularly his office and personal quarters.

Trump’s son, Eric, said in a Fox News interview that “the purpose of the raid, from what they said, was because the National Archives wanted to, you know, corroborate whether or not Donald Trump had any documents in his possession.”

Trump’s attorney, Christina Bobb, told CNN the FBI had seized documents during their search.

Bobb told the outlet: “President Trump and his legal team have been cooperative with FBI and DOJ officials every step of the way.”

She continued: “The FBI did conduct an unannounced raid and seized paper.”

Approval Ratings And Scholar Surveys

Trump was the only president to never reach a 50% approval rating in the Gallup poll dating to 1938. The approval ratings showed a record partisan gap: 88 percent among Republicans, 7 percent among Democrats. Until September 2020, the ratings were unusually stable, reaching a high of 49 percent and a low of 35 percent. Trump finished his term with a record-low approval rating of between 29 percent and 34 percent and a record-low average of 41 percent throughout his presidency.

In Gallup’s annual poll asking Americans to name the man they admire the most, Trump placed second to Obama in 2017 and 2018, tied with Obama for most admired man in 2019, and was named most admired in 2020. Since Gallup started conducting the poll in 1948, Trump is the first elected president not to be named most admired in his first year in office.

In the race to the bottom for the title of worst American president, the same few sorry names appear at the end of almost every list, jockeying for last place. Theres Andrew Johnson, whose abysmal behavior during Reconstruction led to the first presidential impeachment. Theres Warren G. Harding, responsible for the Teapot Dome scandal. Theres hapless, hated Franklin Pierce doomed, dead-after-32-days William Henry Harrison and inevitably, James Buchanan, often considered worst of all because of how badly he bungled the lead-up to the Civil War.

But as historians consider the legacy of Donald J. Trump, it appears that even the woefully inadequate Buchanan has some serious competition for the spot at the bottom.

Trump was the first president to be impeached twice and the first to stir up a mob to try to attack the Capitol and disrupt his successor from becoming president, said Eric Rauchway, professor of history at the University of California, Davis. These will definitely go down in history books, and they are not good.

But not so much anymore.

Mr. Brinkley brought up Richard Nixon, the only president to resign in disgrace.

Trump International Golf Links

Mr Trump’s golf resort on the Menie estate in Aberdeenshire, in north-east Scotland, has long been the subject of controversy.

Two years ago, officials stripped the site of its special status as a nationally-important protected environment after a local government watchdog said the 18-hole course had “partially destroyed” the 4,000-year-old sand dunes it was built on. Trump International described the move as “highly politicised”.

According to Ms James’ legal complaint, the property’s value is “grossly inflated”.

She said its 2014 valuation – at $327m – relied in large part on an assumption that 2,500 homes could be developed on the 1,400-acre land.

But investigators are said to have learned the Trump Organization had received zoning approval six years earlier for fewer than 1,500 homes, most of which were only intended to be short-term holiday rentals.

The misleading figure “more than tripled the value of the undeveloped land” at Trump International Golf Links, the suit claims.

Additionally, the court document asserts that an earlier valuation of the undeveloped land in 2011 had relied solely on a Trump Organization executive’s email to Forbes Magazine, rather than a professional appraisal.

Fulton County Georgia Criminal Election Influence Investigation

Prosecuting Office: Fulton County, GA District Attorneys Office.

Case Summary: On Feb. 10, 2021, the Fulton County DAs Office opened an investigation into attempted election interference by former President Trump. The investigation is looking into potential violations of Georgia election laws, including the solicitation of election fraud, the making of false statements to state and local governmental bodies, conspiracy, racketeering, violation of oath of office and any involvement in violence or threats related to the elections administration.

Case Status: On Feb. 10, 2021, the Fulton County DAs Office sent letters to Governor Brian Kemp, Lieutenant Governor Duncan, Secretary of State Raffensperger, and Attorney General Carr informing them of the new investigation and requesting that all records relating to the election, including emails sent by employees from non-government accounts, be preserved.

Fulton County DA Fani Willis also reportedly plans to investigate a phone call between Senator Lindsey Graham and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger where Raffensperger claims Graham asked the Secretary of State if he could throw out legally cast ballots. Grahams spokesperson claims that this is not true and Graham was instead asking about the signature verification process. The DAs office is also reportedly looking into whether Rudy Giuliani violated election laws in making false statements to Georgia officials.

E Jean Carroll Defamation Suit

Case Summary: In 2019, Carroll publicly accused then-President Trump of sexually assaulting her in a New York City department store in the 1990s. A few hours later, Trump denied Carrolls allegation and accused her of fabricating the story to drum up publicity for her upcoming book. Carroll then sued Trump for defamation in New York state court, alleging that Trump defamed her when he publicly accused her of falsifying the assault story.

After nearly a year of state court proceedingsand with Carrolls counsel angling to sample Trumps DNA for comparison with Carrolls dress from the alleged assaultthe Justice Department moved to intervene on Trumps behalf under the Federal Tort Claims Act . This move threatened to quash the suit. In effect, the FTCA provides blanket immunity to federal employees who commit certain tortsincluding defamationarising out of their official duties. According to the DOJ, the presidents official duties include speaking to the press about public matterswhich would mean that Trump had immunity from any defamatory statements he made about Carroll.

Case Status: In the SDNY proceedings, the parties filed opposing memoranda on Trumps motion to stay in December 2020.

Rejoining the accord represents a reversal from former President Trumps decision to withdraw the U.S. from the agreement, a move that was met with widespread disapproval when Pew Research Center asked about it in 2017.
