Is ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’ real?

Justin Raimondo, a conservative writer, wrote an op-ed about TDS for the Los Angeles Times. He surmised that Trump Derangement Syndrome symptoms come in three stages:

  • Losing a sense of proportion
  • Hyperbolic vocabulary use
  • A distorted view of reality

As Raimondo described it, people who suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome overreact to Trumps tweets and statements. They soon begin using heightened language and hyperbole to describe the president. Ultimately, they debase and cant distinguish fantasy from reality.

Opinion is unmoored from fact. Life resembles a dark fairy tale in which the villainTrumpis an amalgam of all the worst tyrants in history, past and present, while the heroesTrumps criticsare akin to the resistance fighters of World War II, Raimondo wrote.

Is Trump Derangement Syndrome Real

All of these hypothetical scenarios may have some truth to them. However, others argue that Trump Derangement Syndrome is nothing more than a conservative attempt to dismiss real concerns of the American population.

As a 2017 Salon article points out, much of the same hysteria Trump supporters say is nothing compared to the conspiracy theories and rhetoric used by conservatives to describe former President Barack Obama.

During Obamas time in office, he infamously was subjected to false claims that he was not born in the United States, known as Birtherism. Trump was one of the leading voices propagating the conspiracy theory.

Regardless of the ultimate consequencesor lack thereofof the fake syndrome, it wont stop a large contingent of voters who disagree with the president and his policies from voicing their displeasure.

What Is Derangement Syndrome In General

Derangement syndrome is the umbrella term for TDS. The term can be easily summed up by a word often used in its definition. Nearly every site that devotes precious space to this syndrome describes it as a neologisma new word or phrase that can be considered made-up.” And made up is exactly what it is.

Psychiatrists never coined the term. No legitimate and reputable doctors prescribe medicine for itand they will never diagnose it. It is pure rhetoric. Simply put, it is a tool or verbal weapon one side uses against another.

Who created this and when was it first used? That honor goes to a neoconservative columnist for the Washington Post.

Liberal Pushback Against Trump’s Presidency Is Rooted In More Than Just Meltdowns

Ever since Donald Trump’s 2016 election victory was first announced, triggering liberals everywhere, Trump Derangement Syndrome has been widespread in America.

President Donald Trump is waging all-out war against progressive culture, in a magnitude comparable to what 19th-century Germans once called a Kulturkampf.

This perceived attack has resulted in levels of hatred directed at Trump from the left that not even former President George W. Bush incurred.

President Trump’s family, his friends, and his businesses have been investigated, probed, dissected, and constantly attacked for most of his time in office.

Former President Obama’s appointees in the FBI, CIA, and DOJ tried to subvert the Trump campaign in 2016 before interfering with his transition in 2017, and, ultimately, attempting to cut short his presidency.

Now, congressional Democrats have pushed impeachment and are calling on the Senate to remove Trump from office before the 2020 election.

The usual reason for such hatred is said to be Trumps unorthodox and combative take-no-prisoners style, according to The Daily Signal.

Critics detest his crude and unfettered assertions, his lack of prior military or political experience, his attacks on the so-called bipartisan administrative state, and his intent to roll back the entire Obama-era effort of fundamentally transforming the country leftward.

Trump periodically and mercurially fires his top officials.

Borders are 19th-century holdovers.

Chalk It Up To His Tdds

Opinion

The full measure of Biggs TDDS found expression in a recent column in the Daily Caller, in which he compares Trump to George Bailey in the film, Its a Wonderful Life. Im not making this up.

According to Biggs: President Trump has enacted policies that have put more people to work than ever, more money in everyones pockets, and restored the hope of American greatness at home and abroad. He is Americas George Bailey.

Trumps economic policies have produced good results. But the solipsistic Trump is the antithesis of the selfless Bailey.

No rational thinking person would dream of making such a comparison. Chalk it up to TDDS.

Trumps Diagnosis For Critics: Trump Derangement Syndrome

WASHINGTON President Donald Trump and his supporters have a new buzz phrase to diagnose his critics: Trump Derangement Syndrome.

The term is supposed to describe voters who are so angry and opposed to the U.S. president that they are incapable of seeing any good in what he does. TDS has popped up on Fox News in recent weeks and was cited by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., in interviews this week before being used by the president himself on Twitter on Wednesday.

His tweet: Some people HATE the fact that I got along well with President Putin of Russia. They would rather go to war than see this. Its called Trump Derangement Syndrome!

Its the latest linguistics salvo by a president who fundamentally altered the definition of fake news and tries to discredit opponents of his administration by pointing to the most extreme critiques.

In the case of Russia, Trumps fiercest detractors, including former CIA Director John Brennan, this week went so far as to call Trumps actions treasonous after he doubted U.S. intelligence findings that Russia tried to sway the 2016 presidential election.

Trump didnt come up with the latest catchphrase. In 2003, conservative opinion writer Charles Krauthammer described liberals reaction to President George W. Bush as Bush Derangement Syndrome, defined as the acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal people in reaction to the policies, the presidency — nay — the very existence of George W. Bush.

So What Happened To The Forum

In the example given, the forum continued for another day with the usual group of right-wing commentators making their TDS claims. Then someonethe person originally attacked with TDSdevised a comeback.

You know once you pulled out that TDS thing, this person wrote, I stopped taking you seriously, because when you did that, I basically won the argument.

The rebuttals from the right-wing commentator or other Trump supporters stopped posting on the forum threads. And for a brief period, the symptoms for TDS were treated. No need to call a doctor.

Column: What Can You Do About The Trumpites Next Door

My neighbors kept President Trump in business with their support. They also just plowed my driveway, gratis.

The impeachment fight, Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick honored in a Rotunda ceremony, the news that Trumps last-minute manipulations may keep horrific immigration policies in place, it all provokes a kind of political muscle memory in me, a bottomless state of stress.

Dont get me wrong. Im one of the lucky ones. Ive come through the last four years relatively unscathed. I wasnt separated from my kids, my parents are surviving the pandemic, I havent lost my job, and I wasnt gassed in Lafayette Square or attacked in Minneapolis. No one put a knee on my neck.

One way or another, though, weve all been traumatized by the Trump administration and the lawlessness and cruelty it encouraged or enacted as policy. This was America at its worst, and the consequences will not fade fast enough, if they ever fully fade at all.

What this means is that, even in the midst of my relief and my optimism, Trumpism remains. We are in a less-than-steady state.

We need to keep our guard up. For the last four years, its been easy as well as necessary to focus our shock and activism on one person. The former president sucked the oxygen out of everything. Evicting him from office was herculean. It was hardly a sure thing even before he tried to steal the election. The run-up to Inauguration Day was a season spent in hell.

Robert Reid: The Real Definition Of Trump Derangement Syndrome

Further ‘Trump derangement syndrome’ will only ‘help the US President’

Dear Editor: Now that our four-year national nightmare has been expunged from the Oval Office, it is important to correct a misconception regarding TDS, Trump Derangement Syndrome. It is a term which has been misapplied by the proponents of Trumpism to the opponents of Trumpism.

In fact, its past time to correctly identify those manifesting a discernible degree of derangement regarding Donald Trump.

The truly deranged are those who have unreservedly believed Trumps lies, unabashedly encouraged him and unconditionally been loyal to him. For four years, they have nurtured his fascist behavior and enabled him to defile American democracy.

In return, Trump has given carte blanche to the most deranged Trumpists to be who and what they always have been and always will be.

The deranged mob of insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol are those most severely afflicted with TDS however, those leaping to a slavering, Pavlovian-conditioned defense at the slightest criticism of their lodestar are stained with the same symptoms.

Trump Derangement Syndrome Becomes A Threat To Public Health

Trump derangement syndromea well-documented illness that predominantly afflicts coastal elites and congressional Democratshas turned into a political pandemic.

It is the reflexive refusal to agree with any position that President Donald Trump takes, regardless of merit. In a time of national emergency, this contagion is particularly dangerous.

Take hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, two drugs that doctors historically have used to treat or prevent malaria. When the president suggested that hydroxychloroquine could be helpful in treating COVID-19, sufferers from TDS immediately set out to prove him wrong.

CNN published an analysis titled: Trump peddles unsubstantiated hope in dark times, and The Washington Post proclaimed: Trump is giving people false hope of coronavirus cures. Its all snake oil.

But several medical studies have suggested that these drugs have promise.

Dr. William Schaffner, a Vanderbilt University expert on infectious diseases, cited an independent study from Chinese doctors that discovered a group of moderately ill COVID-19 patients improved when given hydroxychloroquine. The patients who received the drug saw their coughing and fever ease a day or so earlier than did patients in the control group who didnt receive the drug.

Its clear, though, that these countries see the same potential benefits of hydroxychloroquine that our president does.

Trump Derangement Syndrome Easy To Diagnose

In Sundays letter , Dr. Mort Shamir gave Aaron Hughey a pass.

Im sure he was just being polite, but I will choose the politically incorrect way to define Hugheys intelligence. In the past, I have often criticized President Donald Trumps detractors for stating feelings over facts for not liking him. Evidently Hughey, Phil Mitchell and others need to be saved from this roaring economy. Maybe they dislike a strong military for protection. Maybe they are afraid the murder of little babies will be stopped. Maybe they want to continue being screwed in trade deals by China, Canada, Mexico and Japan.

Maybe they choose a president who leads from behind and bows down to other leaders. Maybe they choose to believe in 50 genders rather than identify them with mental disorders as the DSM-5 does. Maybe they pick and choose what parts of the Bible to abide by and create phony justifications for verses they disagree with, like Lev. 18-22. Define this verse, Mr. Hughey. These beliefs dont identify intelligence.

In this letter, I stated my opinion with facts and examples. In the future, Mr. Hughey, please do the same. Facts are always missing from your criticism of Trump. In laymens terms, Mr. Hughey, you just got roasted, sir. Facts matter.

Trump Derangement Syndrome: Diagnosis And Treatment

Trump Derangement Syndrome is a social mental illness that manifests itself in the refusal to accept the results of the 2016 elections. This ailment belongs to the category of political psychosis. Unlike most other mental disorders, TDS is a contagious disease that can cause epidemics and even pandemics.

This syndrome is caused by the new neuropathologic coronavirus Bacillus Anti-Trumpicus . The virus, entering the human brain, selectively eats only those neurons responsible for a coherent political worldview. Theoretically, the disease is incurable, although some countries have announced successful attempts to combat the epidemic and control the spread of infection.

One of the best known symptoms of TDS is the complete lack of logic in patients’ behavior. For example, those afflicted with this disease claim that “President Trump is a lifelong dictator and fascist. Therefore, in the 2020 elections, we must choose a different, democratic president.” For those who still do not see a logical contradiction in this phrase, we can say with confidence that your prognosis is unfavorable.

For those who see it, this expression serves as a kind of warning: “Beware a sick person is before you. You should not argue with him. You should not discuss any serious problems with this individual do not debate or argue with a schizophrenic. This person needs neuropsychiatric help, not fruitless discussions.”

Globalism is a pandemic caused by Occultatum Fascismo Decretum viruses.

The Root Cause Of Tds And The Cure Nobody Wants To Talk About

The Medias Trump Derangement Syndrome

Right now you and everyone you know is in pain. In fact, most everyone in the whole world is suffering 24/7 to various degrees.

Trump Derangement Syndrome is but one symptom of this universal suffering. However, Trump is not the root cause of it and his removal therefore cannot be the cure.

Disclosure: Im neither pro nor against Trump, nor am I eligible to vote in the upcoming 2020 election. My aim here is beyond politics. I want to clarify a phenomena thats threatening the very fabric of our society, and if only 1 person is somehow helped by this, it will be worth my while.

Trigger warning : What you read here might sound harsh, but thats the nature of honesty sometimes. If we dont find a way to heal our collective and individual wounds, civilization as we know it might not survive.

Many are enduring this agony in quiet desperation, pretending that everything is just fine, while others again are so deep in suffering that they are in total denial of it.

The suffering Im talking about does not have an obvious cause, like a broken leg or menstrual cramps. What Im talking about is the inner agony, emptiness or void that we all carry and repress as best we can.

What in the world has this got to do with Donald Trump and TDS, you might wonder.

Its running constantly in the background, often masked by whatever noise or sedatives we fill our days with, but its always there, lurking underneath our perfect Instagram facades.
