Supporters Think Trump Was ‘set Up’
The crowd was on his side when it came to the FBI’s search.
This region supported Mr Trump in the 2020 election, even though Pennsylvania overall slipped from his grasp and chose Mr Biden.
Two supporters had already procured “Defund the FBI” T-shirts to wear to the rally.
Gail McCloskey, from the city of Altoona, nearly a three-hour drive away, told the BBC she thought the FBI visit was “a set up”.
Meanwhile, Kelly Borgogelli, 60, who had driven four hours from Buffalo, New York, to see Mr Trump, said: “They’re just going after him for pure hate.”
Asked if she believed any of the multiple accusations made against Mr Trump over the years – that he incited a violent mob to storm the US Capitol last year, that he improperly pressured Ukraine’s president to investigate his political enemies, or that he falsified claims of election fraud in 2020 – Mrs Borgogelli replied she did not.
“They’ve never given us any proof,” she said.
Her companion, Maureen Ewart, 62, said if the justice department actually charged Mr Trump, the country would be “divided”.
“It will be crowded out there, the streets will be full,” Ms Ewart said, emphasising that she did not condone violence – but feared any criminal charges against the former president could spark civil unrest.
At one point, Mr Trump himself claimed that the latest investigation into his possession of government documents was “going to produce a backlash” the likes of which the country had not seen before.

Former President Donald Trump announced an upcoming rally in northeastern Pennsylvania in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area to take place over Labor Day weekend.
The event is being billed as a rally to support the entire Trump ticket in the state including Dr. Ozs U.S. Senate campaign and the campaign of Doug Mastriano, candidate for Pennsylvania Governor.

The timing and location of the rally, however, will fuel rampant speculation that Trump could be planning to announce a 2024 Presidential campaign over the Labor Day holiday weekend.
The location, specifically in President Bidens backyard of Scranton, also would serve as a great backdrop to contrast Trumps America First policies with those of the failed Biden administration.
As reported days ago, Trump has been mulling when to launch a 2024 presidential campaign with an eye leaning toward sometime near or after Labor Day in September.
After the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago, the chorus for Trump to strike sooner rather than later became deafening among his inner circle urging him to speed up the timeline on a potential 2024 announcement:
Trump has previously said that a 2024 presidential announcement, in his mind, is a matter of when rather than if.

Former President Donald Trump will travel to Ohio to hold a rally amid a contentious GOP primary to be the states next senator.
Trumps Save America PAC announced the rally would take place on April 23, though the attendees of the event have yet to be disclosed. The candidates are competing to fill the vacant seat left by retiring Republican Sen. Rob Portman.
Numerous candidates have attempted to secure Trumps endorsement, including former state treasurer Josh Mandel, businessman Mike Gibbons and former Ohio GOP Chair Jane Timken. Trump is reportedly planning on endorsing venture capitalist and author J.D. Vance, according to three sources who allegedly spoke with NBC News.
Associates of Trump reportedly said the former president has concerns about all of the candidates running for the nomination and might not endorse anyone, The Columbus Dispatch reported. Despite the spending of millions of dollars on the race, no clear frontrunner has emerged.
Gibbons led Mandel by two points in a Fox News poll released in March, with no candidate securing more than 22% of the vote. A February poll from The Hill and Emerson College gave Gibbons a seven point lead.

Trump Arrives For Pennsylvania Rally Under Pressure
Former President Donald Trump will arrive in Pennsylvania for a rally on Saturday as he faces mounting pressure from his endorsed candidates struggling in key races, the FBI‘s raid on Mar-a-Lago, and other legal troubles.
Trump is set to speak at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, to support candidates he has endorsedincluding Dr. Mehmet Oz and Doug Mastriano in the battleground state’s Senate and gubernatorial races. The doors are expected to open at 2 p.m., and the event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The rally will also be streamed live online.
The ex-president is also expected to rebuke President Joe Biden, who on Thursday blasted “MAGA Republicans” in an address to the nation. The rally is also his first since the FBI raided his Palm Beach, Florida, residence on August 8, when they seized 20 boxes that contained classified documents.

Why Is Trump Back
His handlers say the rally is a continuation of President Trumps unprecedented effort to advance the MAGA agenda by energizing voters and highlighting America First candidates and causes. In Michigan, hes coming specifically to raise the profile of a couple of Republican candidates he has endorsed: Matthew DePerno, a lawyer who is running for the partys nomination for state attorney general, and Kristina Karamo, who is running for the nomination for secretary of state, the chief elections officer in Michigan.
Both candidates, by the way, have been strong supporters of Trumps unsupported claims that the 2020 election, including in Michigan, was corrupt and stolen from him.

Both Parties Eye Pennsylvania
The state is vital to Democrats’ hopes as well. They want to pick up a US Senate seat by propelling Lt Gov John Fetterman to victory.
The governor’s race has taken on extra significance with Mr Mastriano’s landslide win in the Republican primary. He attended the 6 January 2021 attack on the US Congress and played a key role in efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Pennsylvania.
Should he win the governorship, he would have significant power over the state’s election implementation.
To oppose him, Democrats have put forth the state’s attorney general, Josh Shapiro, and President Biden held several high-profile events in the state in recent days to help whip up the Democratic base.
In fact, he also visited Wilkes-Barre, on 30 August to give a major speech about guns and public safety and two days ago he gave a primetime address in Philadelphia.
He argued that Trump’s ideology – which he called “Maga Republicans” after his predecessor’s famous campaign slogan – threatened American democracy.
“Not every Republican, not even a majority of Republicans, are Maga Republicans,” Mr Biden said.
“But there’s no question the Republican Party today is dominated, driven and intimidated by Donald Trump and the Maga Republicans, and that is a threat to this country.”
On Saturday, Mr Trump called Mr Biden’s address the most “vicious hateful and divisive speech ever delivered by an American president”.

One Michigan Republican who has already received Trumps Complete and Total Endorsement is Matthew DePerno, who is running to unseat Democrat Dana Nessel as the states attorney general. DePerno was one of the speakers at the rally on Tuesday, which was held in service of gathering the over 340,000 petition signatures needed to put an audit initiative before the state legislature. DePerno has said that if elected in 2022, he would move to prosecute Nessel, whom he has called a lawless attorney general, and Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who has received countlessdeaththreats and was even the target of a terrorist kidnapping scheme. The next battle along former President Donald Trumps impeachment revenge warpath is a GOP primary contest in western Michigan featuring a lopsided fundraising contest that favors one of his biggest congressional enemies Rep. Peter Meijer.
Meijera first-term Republican who voted to impeach Trumpon Wednesday debuts his inaugural television ad of the cycle, shared first with POLITICO.
Titled Pure Michigan, it highlights Meijers Iraq deployment in the Army Reserves and hints that he supports some of the former presidents signature policies, including building a border wall, but without mentioning Trump. I am fighting for the values that run through every community and every person in West Michigan, Meijer says.
Im running on my record as a proven conservative who is committed to upholding the Constitution and delivering results for West Michigan, and our first TV ad underscores this dedication, Meijer told POLITICO in a statement.
Meijers primary campaign is yet another test of whether Trumps endorsement can elevate a MAGA challenger not just with voters but among donors, and of the former presidents sway in a district that skews suburban and Democratic.
A spokesperson for Gibbs did not immediately return a request for comment.
