Are Maga Hats Made In China
Questions about the Trump campaign’s symbolic red hats started and were debunked in 2015. The claims circulated again last year and have found new traction as the country heads toward Election Day.
In 2016, a closer look at the hats by the Associated Press found that some did not contain the fabric that the manufacturer says is always used.
Brian Kennedy, president of Cali Fame of Los Angeles, the company that makes the official hats, did not explain the discrepancy but said “all or virtually all” of the materials are from the United States.
In 2019, Kennedy told AP that the hats are made entirely in Carson, California.
USA TODAY has reached out to the Trump campaign for comment on the merchandise. But according to the official Trump merchandise website, the campaign’s products are “proudly made in the USA.”
While the “made in China” tags can be found on some Trump merchandise, those items are not official products of the campaign they’re from outside vendors.
A WCIV report of a Trump rally in Charleston, South Carolina, in March illustrated this distinction. Vendors at Trump rallies often sell merchandise, but most of these items are made outside the U.S. in countries like China, Honduras and Haiti.
Ivanka And The Chinese Trademarks

Im actually opening my first store in China, in Beijing a jewelry boutique, which is very exciting, Ivanka Trump told the South China Morning Post in 2012. Her presence in China has continued: in 2019 China gave her company approval for five trademarks. These included brokerage, charitable fundraising, and art valuation services. Only a few months before, she had received 16 trademarks, including one for coffins.

Snopes notes, Ivanka Trump shuttered her business in July 2018 to focus on work for the White House. But Snopes adds that the the government transparency nonprofit Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington has argued, her trademarks remain a potential conflict of interest as she continues to work on policy in the White House and meet with foreign leaders.
Trump: ‘we Have So Much Potential In This Country’
But many of his own products wouldn’t fit that bill. The president and his daughter largely manufacture Trump-branded products in countries like China, Indonesia, Turkey and Canada.
Here’s where Trump products are made.
“Unfortunately, my ties are made in China,” Trump admitted in June 2016.
Trump suits sold on Amazon.com are listed as imported. Buzzfeed ordered two they were made in Indonesia.
Trump rectangular shaped eyeglasses are made in China, according to retailer eyeglasses.com.
However, Trump’s cologne line, ‘Success,’ is made in the U.S.A., according to the labeling.

But Trump does the same thing. Many of his products are made outside the United States. Most Donald J. Trump ties are made in China. Some Donald J. Trump suits are also made in China.
Donald J. Trump signature men’s dress shirts are made in China, Bangladesh or “imported,” meaning they were made abroad.
And it’s not just Donald’s products. Harvard professor and trade expert Robert Lawrence analyzed over 800 items in the Ivanka Trump fashion line. There are shoes, dresses, purses and scarves. All are “imported.”
The top five countries that America imports clothing from are China , India, Vietnam, Pakistan and Mexico.
“In a recent debate mentioned ties. But the ties made in China are just the tip of the iceberg,” says Lawrence, who served on President Bill Clinton’s Council of Economic Advisers.
Lawrence found that none of Ivanka Trump’s clothing line appears to be made exclusively in the United States and 354 items are listed as made in China.
Trump doesn’t dispute this.
“I talk about my ties in speeches. I’m open. I say my ties many times are made in China,” Trump told CNN’s Jake Tapper in July.
“It’s very hard to have apparel made in this country,” Trump said.
The issue is getting renewed scrutiny as Trump becomes the clear Republican frontrunner for president and has made trade a key 2016 campaign theme.
Ties Selling Well In Toronto
Vassi said Dump Trump ties were hand-made in Italy from 100 per cent silk and will retail for $100 a piece, with about $35 per sale going directly to charity.
While the Dump Trump tie has already been available for pre-sale at Vassi’s brick-and-mortar Bay Street location as well as on his company’s website, customers will be able to check out the ties in the store on Aug. 10.
So far about 80 per cent of the 350 Dump Trump ties have already been pre-ordered, and based on how well the remaining stock moves Vassi, may order another shipment.
As for the Gold Star tie, Vassi is aiming to have it produced and ready to move by late September.

Trumps Make America Great Again Hats Are Made In America
Proudly made in USA Trump campaign hats are sold for $25 each through the Republicans official campaign website.
In October 2015, Twitter exploded with claims that Trumps Make America Great Again hats, worn by the candidate at campaign rallies and purchased on his campaign website for $25 each, were not made in America. Politifact checked that claim, awarding it the most negative declaration the Pants on Fire rating.
The make America Great Again hats are,in fact, made in America. A company out of Los Angeles called Cali Fame makes the hats. Politifact reports, From there, the hats are distributed by Ace Specialties LLC, a Lafayette, La., company that normally deals with gear for the oil and gas industry.
What About Brooks Brothers
After Trump insisted that they dont even make this stuff here, Stephanopoulos cited Brooks Brothers as one company that does.
Well, they but they dont make here, Trump said. They dont make here, not that I see.
Thats not accurate. Although many of the products sold by Brooks Brothers continue to be made overseas, the company has in recent years been reshoring back to the U.S. some of its manufacturing.
Arthur Wayne, a spokesman for Brooks Brothers, told us via email that currently 100 percent of Brooks Brothers retail ties are made in our factory in Long Island City, NY approximately 85 percent of our suits are made in our factory in Haverhill, Massachusetts. and our Original Button-Down Polo Oxford shirts, made to measure shirts, and some of our luxury shirts are also made in America at our factory in Garland, NC. We also offer some accessories and other furnishings which are Made in America.
David Trumbull, a consultant and expert in textiles and U.S. manufacturing, told us Stephanopoulos was correct about the Brooks Brothers example.
In the case of Brooks Brothers, for example, as its website explains , its collection of mens ties and bow ties are made cut and piled in the U.S. out of silk, cotton and wool woven in Italy or England.
We reached out to the Trump campaign and did not hear back, but in 2011, Trump was asked why he doesnt look at having his Trump products manufactured in the U.S.

And then theres this: A trademark application in India, reported by The Washington Post, which speaks volumes, is all-encompassing and daunting.

So if youre in the market to buy some Trump products made in the good old U S of A, wed say your best bet is to visit one of his hotels or golf courses and only order bottled water.

In addition, the outlet added, the president and his daughter Ivanka Trump, a White House adviser, have been awarded trademarks by Chinas government his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, has courted Chinese investors in at least one other real estate deal. Trump and his familys foreign investments may come under increasing scrutiny as the 2020 race heats up, even as the president appears likely to get through a second presidential election without revealing his tax returns.

In fact, merchandise sold by the Trump Organization or sold through Ivanka Trump’s fashion line is all made overseas. John Yang learns more from Matea Gold of The Washington Post.
Trump Makes Ties In China And That’s Good For America

The presidential campaign has brought up several economic issues, and international trade has been front and center of the debate. So as I look at my Donald Trump tie that was made in China and my Donald Trump shirts that were made in Bangladesh and Indonesia, I want to clarify some basic economic concepts dealing with trade.
I want to dispel the myth that Trump and many others perpetuate: that if something is produced in the United States, this is good for Americans, and if something is made in another country, this is bad for Americans.
When I teach international trade to my Principles of Economics students, I ask them, “Who doesn’t want Italian or French wine to enter into the United States?” Of course, the correct answer is, “Domestic wine producers.”
When I ask them, “What is the rationale behind the domestic industry opposing foreign wine?” they usually get it right, responding, “To save American jobs.”
That is the myth we need to dispel.
Trade restrictions benefit some people but certainly not all.
In his book Economics in One Lesson, Henry Hazlitt writes that most economic fallacies come from looking at the short-term, not the long-term effects of policies, and from looking at the effects of a policy on one group, not all groups. Let’s break this down a little, using my wine example:

It was one of the most dramatic moments in a presentation filled with them: Just before President Donald J. Trump went onstage near the White House last year and urged his supporters to fight like hell and march on the Capitol, an aide testified on Tuesday, he was told that some of them were armed.
It was also a potentially consequential moment for any prosecution of Mr. Trump, legal experts said. Knowing that his crowd of supporters had the means to be violent when he exhorted them to march to the Capitol and declared that he wanted to go with them could nudge Mr. Trump closer to facing criminal charges, legal experts said.
This really moved the ball significantly, even though there is still a long way to go, said Renato Mariotti, a legal analyst and former federal prosecutor in Illinois.
A spokesman for Attorney General Merrick B. Garland declined to comment on Ms. Hutchinsons testimony although one of Mr. Garlands predecessors did weigh in.

As we sped toward downtown Hangzhou, past hulking construction projects that could each rival the skylines of most American cities, my cab driver seemed stumped. “Shengzhou? Where is that?” he asked me, amazed to encounter an American who hadn’t come to Hangzhou for its Buddhist temples or pagoda-lined West Lake. I had flown into his cosmopolitan city instead for its bus station, from which I would take a two-hour trip to a nearby town he’d never heard of. “What on earth are you doing there?”
The answer was complicated, a bit too much so to explain in my rusty Chinese. Had I been honest, I would have told him that I had arrived in Hangzhou on a journey of last resort.
Encased in Ziploc at the bottom of my shoulder bag was a Donald J. Trump-brand necktie with silver checks that I purchased just days earlier for $60 in the lobby of Trump’s flagship skyscraper on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. Made in China, the tie had now traveled twice across the Pacific Ocean and, as Trump had just weeks earlier secured the Republican presidential nomination, it now carried more political weight than ever.
For more than a year, Trump’s opponents had continually seized upon his foreign-made goods to call out the hypocrisy of a campaign centering on a pledge to repatriate jobs that, in Trump’s telling, global trade had wrongfully taken from American workers.
Over the summer, I too had searched fruitlessly for Trump’s Chinese factories.
“Yes!” Lu told Jackie. “We have made these ties here.”
