On Saturday, Donald Trump made his latest triumphant return to Georgia after losing the 2020 election.

Much of Commerce, a rural city north of Athens, was swathed in patriotic colors, and merchants hawked Trump 2024 merchandise outside gas stations as thousands of the Trump faithful, many in vehicles festooned with Trump flags and bumper stickers, convened at Banks County Dragway in the hopes of reviving some of the magic of 2016.

The shirts on the backs and the signs in the hands of the attendees were largely pro-Trump or anti-President Joe Biden, but for the former president, the rally was a chance to reassert his kingmaking role in the GOP by stumping for his slate of preferred statewide candidates for Georgias upcoming May 24 primaries, led by former Sen. David Perdue.

Kemp and Trump were once allies, but their relationship soured when Kemp did not illegally overturn the election.

Trump and Perdue continue to maintain the 2020 election was rife with cheating in states including Georgia, claims that have not held up in multiple lawsuits and recounts.

Lets get one thing straight, let me be very clear, very clear, in the state of Georgia, thanks to Brian Kemp, our elections in 2020 were absolutely stolen, said Perdue, who also lost following the 2020 election.

How To Watch Trump Georgia Rally: Time Live Stream For Gop Campaign Event

Donald Trump is hitting the road ahead of the midterm elections this fall, and his next stop is Georgia.

The former president will hold a campaign rally at the Banks County Dragway in the city of Commerce on Saturday. Trump’s influence over the Republican Party will be tested in the Peach State this fall, as he’s endorsed two candidates: Herschel Walker and David Perdue.

The rally will kick off at 7 p.m. ET. The event will be streamed live on by the Right Side Broadcasting Network.

In addition to Perdue and Walker, Trump supporter U.S. Representative Marjorie Greene Taylor is also expected to make an appearance at the rally on Saturday. Guest speakers also include Georgia State Senator Burt Jones, U.S. Representatives Jody Hice and Andrew Clyde, and congressional candidate Vernon Jones.

Polls currently show one of Trump’s picks ahead. Walker, who is running for U.S. Senate against Democrat Raphael Warnock, was far ahead of his conservative rivals in a recent Fox Newssurvey. The former football star had 66 percent support while the next closest candidate, Georgia’s agriculture commissioner Gary Black, had 8 percent support.

Walker received Trump’s support before he even officially entered the race. Before joining the National Football League, Walker played for a United States Football League team that Trump owned. Trump has praised Walker as “unstoppable.”

Move Over Florida: Georgia The New Battleground As Trump Goes All In

Georgia has obsessed the former president since losing it to Joe Biden will his mega-Maga candidates come out on top?

Greg Bump will not vote for Governor Brian Kemp because he sold us out in the election. Todd Allinger is backing Kemp because what hes done for the state of Georgia has been really positive. Teresa Richmond likes Kemp too but will probably vote for his rival, David Perdue, because of Donald Trumps endorsement.

The views of Republican voters in Sugar Hill in the far northern Atlanta suburbs indicate that nothing can be taken for granted in Tuesdays primary elections in Georgia, a state that has arguably eclipsed neighboring Florida as the most pivotal battleground in American politics.

At first glance, the primaries are shaping up as another litmus test of Trumps dominance of the Republican party. The former president has endorsed candidates up and down the ballot who hew to his big lie that the 2020 election was stolen. Opinion polls suggest that at least some of them will lose.

But the victors will not be moderates promising a repudiation of Trumpism. Their policies are generally aligned with his America first vision and far-right positions on abortion, transgender rights and the teaching of race in schools. The Make America great again movement is endemic even if Trump himself cannot entirely control it.

Erickson added: Kemps message is: I beat her once, I can beat her again. Perdue couldnt even beat Jon Ossoff.

Trump Indictment Predicted In Georgia By Legal Expert: ‘charges Will Stick’

A legal expert is predicting that potential felony charges against former President Donald Trump are likely to have standing in Georgia, and indictments may continue past the Peach State.

“It wouldn’t surprise me for Georgia to become the first jurisdiction to indict a former president on felony charges. I doubt it’ll be the last. And I think the charges will stick,” Laurence Tribe, professor emeritus of constitutional law at Harvard University, tweeted on Friday.

Tribe’s remarks came as Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis ramps up her investigation into Trump’s alleged efforts to overturn Georgia’s vote in the 2020 presidential election. Trump lost the state by a narrow margin of 0.23 points.

As part of her probe, Willis, a Democrat, has reportedly subpoenaed a number of state officials, including Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, who recently won a GOP primary in a rebuke of Trump’s election fraud claims.

A phone recording obtained by TheWashington Post revealed that Trump had asked Raffensperger to help him “find 11,780 votes” to overturn President Joe Biden‘s win in Georgia and threatened Raffensperger with “a criminal offense” for refusing to assist his efforts.

“I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have, because we won the state,” Trump is heard saying in the leaked call.

Trump Holds Georgia Rally In Effort To Retain Gop Kingmaker Role

Former U.S. President Donald Trump speaks during the Conservative Political Action Conference in Dallas, Texas, U.S., on Sunday, July 11, 2021. The three-day conference is titled “America UnCanceled.” , Bloomberg

— Donald Trump tried to rouse Georgia Republican voters to back struggling primary challenger David Perdue against incumbent Republican Governor Brian Kemp in a rally on Saturday night, less than two months before an election that will test the former presidents status as GOP kingmaker.

Trump held the rally in North Georgia, a Republican bastion, about 70 miles northeast of Atlanta. The event was for Perdue, the former U.S. Senator whom Trump recruited to challenge Kemp, and others he endorsed, including former football star Herschel Walker, who is making a Georgia U.S. Senate seat bid.

The former president repeated his false election claims about a stolen election in Georgia and said Republicans have to defeat Kemp and other RINOS — Republicans in name only — hes targeted and blames for not overturning his loss to Joe Biden in the southern state.

Before we can defeat the Democrat socialists and communists, which is exactly what were running against at the ballot box this fall, we first have to defeat the RINO sellouts and the losers in the primaries this spring, Trump said.

High Stakes

Theyre going to rise up in a way that no poll can pick up, Perdue said.

He is not a RINO and people know that, Gillespie said. Just saying it doesnt make it true.

Rudy Giuliani Told By Prosecutors He Is A Target Of Election Inquiry

In the petition seeking Elliss testimony, Willis identified her as an attorney for the Trump Campaigns legal efforts seeking to influence the results of the November 2020 election in Georgia and elsewhere.

Ellis appeared with Giuliani at a Dec. 3, 2020, state Senate committee hearing at the Georgia Capitol during which false allegations of election fraud were made, Willis wrote. She also wrote at least two legal memos to Trump and his attorneys advising that then-Vice President Mike Pence should disregard certified electoral college votes from Georgia and other purportedly contested states when Congress met to certify the election results on Jan. 6, 2021, the petition says.

Evidence shows that Elliss actions were part of a multi-state, coordinated plan by the Trump Campaign to influence the results of the November 2020 election in Georgia and elsewhere, Willis wrote.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney, whos overseeing the special grand jury, signed off on Williss petitions to order Ellis and other Trump associates to testify. He issued so-called certificates of material witness stating that they are necessary and material witnesses for the special grand jury investigation.

The special grand jury operates in secret and does not have the power to issue an indictment. Once its investigation is complete, it will issue a report with recommendations. Willis will then have to decide whether to go to a regular grand jury to seek an indictment.

What Trump Really Lost In Georgia

Trump’s top targets were Gov. Brian Kemp, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and Attorney General Chris Carr, all of whom refused to help him try to overturn the 2020 election results in the state.

Kemp crushed his Trump-recruited challenger, former Sen. David Perdue, by a margin of more than 3-to-1. Carr pummeled his Trump-endorsed rival, John Gordon, by a similar spread. And Raffensperger did well enough taking more than 50 percent to avoid a runoff against Trump-backed Rep. Jody Hice, who managed just a third of the vote.

Two of Trump’s picks for House primaries, former Democrat Vernon Jones and Jake Evans, advanced to runoffs but finished second in their respective races.

While Trump could claim victory in watching Herschel Walker coast to the GOP Senate nod and Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene trounce her primary opponent, the high-profile losses are potentially more consequential for his future.

If Kemp, Carr and Raffensperger are re-elected in November, they will sit in power in the state during the 2024 presidential election. So, rather than installing loyalists in posts Trump saw as pivotal to his 2020 defeat, he whiffed big time in trying to knock out the incumbents who defied him.

For some Georgia Republicans, it was a sign of poor political judgment on Trump’s part to expend so much capital in the state’s primary and on the popular Kemp, in particular.

Who Has The Grand Jury Heard From So Far

In addition to subpoenaing the fake electors, the grand jury has sought testimony from a wide array of figures ranging from a former publicist for Kanye West, who allegedly tried to pressure an election worker into making untrue claims about voter fraud, to Brian Kemp, the states Republican governor, who was the subject of an unrelenting pressure campaign by Trump to take action on his behalf.

Recently, it sought testimony from a variety of figures in Trumps inner circle, including former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham.

This is major, Hallerman said at the time. This represents the first time that the DA is piercing the inner orbit of Donald Trump. Previously, she stayed at the state and local level and kept it very Georgia-focused.

Both Graham and Giuliani have tried to avoid testifying. Giuliani was ordered by a New York judge to testify in person in August after he failed to show up to a court hearing contesting his subpoena. He eventually spent six hours testifying in person on August 17 before the grand jury. His lawyer, Robert Costello, told the Washington Post afterward, We had no disputes. We were told Mayor Giuliani has completed his grand jury obligations.

A Major Test Of Trumps Clout

Trump Pushes GA Sec. Of State To Decertify 2020 Election Results

Perdues challenge hinges on Trumps support. He invokes the former president at the start of every campaign stop and echoes Trumps falsehoods about widespread election fraud costing him the 2020 election.

Trump filmed a direct-to-camera TV spot for Perdue thats now airing statewide. And Donald Trump Jr. completed a statewide swing this week to boost the former senators campaign.

Theres plenty of reason for Trump to step up his commitment. Perdues campaign serves as one of the marquee tests of his influence, and he has vowed to defeat Kemp after the governor refused his demands to reverse his narrow 2020 defeat, something the governor has no power to do.

Trump also will hold fundraisers at his Mar-a-Lago resort next week for Perdue and Vernon Jones, the ex-Democrat who dropped out of the race for governor at the former presidents urging to run for a rural congressional seat.

The location of the rally is also significant. Commerce is at the heart of a rural northeast Georgia region thats home to a trove of conservative voters. Its also a key part of the 10th Congressional District, left vacant when Hice decided to challenge Raffensperger with Trumps blessing.

The timing couldnt be better for Perdue.

Several recent public polls show the former U.S. senator in a bind, including a Trafalgar Group survey that pegged Kemp at 49% to 40% for Perdue. Several of those polls also show a significant number of GOP voters arent aware of Trumps endorsement.

Trump Heads To Georgia One Of The New 2020 Battleground States

President Trump will be visiting Georgia on Wednesday to talk about infrastructure, but like his recent trips to Arizona, Michigan and Wisconsin, this happens to be to a battleground state his reelection campaign is eager to keep in the “win” column in November.

The latest CBS News Battleground Tracker poll rates Georgia as a toss-up for the presidential election currently, Biden leads Mr. Trump by two points. Georgia voters have not picked a Democrat to be president since 1992, but the gains Democrats have made in recent elections with key groups have turned it into a state to watch.

“Georgia looks like a toss-up because the president’s support is strong among his current base, while Biden is performing better than past Democrats among groups such as women with college degrees, based on our Battleground Tracker model estimates,” according to CBS News’ Election and Surveys director Anthony Salvanto.

Mr. Trump won Georgia in 2016 by 5 points, a smaller margin than that of 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney, who beat President Obama by 8 points. Suburban counties contributed in part to the Democrats’ gains. In 2016, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton won the suburban counties of Gwinnett and Cobb outside Atlanta that voted for Romney in 2012.

Sen Lindsey Graham Told To Testify In Georgias 2020 Election Probe

A Georgia judge has ordered Rudy Giuliani to appear next week before a special grand jury in Atlanta investigating whether former President Donald Trump criminally interfered with the states 2020 election.

Giuliani was scheduled to testify Tuesday, but was excused by the judge after his lawyers filed a motion asking for a delay, claiming the former New York City mayor was unable to fly due to recently having two heart stents surgically installed.

But at a hearing the same day, Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney, who is overseeing the grand jury, directed Giuliani to appear on Aug. 17 unless his legal team can provide a reason why he would need more time to arrange travel.

Giulianis lawyer, Bill Thomas, raised the possibility to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis that the interview could occur closer to New York or be conducted virtually.

We just want a reasonable accommodation so a 78-year-old who has health conditions can get here, satisfy the directives from a New York court and this court, Thomas told the judge, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Prosecutors rejected those options.

Willis launched a criminal investigation in March 2021 after Trump was recorded during a Jan. 2 telephone conservation with Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger asking him to change the results of the presidential election.

All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have, Trump said. Because we won the state.

Has Williss Investigation Faced Any Major Setbacks

President Trump coming to Georgia on eve of Senate runoff election for ...

Yes, one arose this week that created legal obstacles and made it easier for the investigation to be viewed as a partisan witch hunt, which could undermine its credibility.

A judge ruled this week that Willis could not go after one of the states 16 fake electors. In a ruling, a local county court judge decided Willis could not herself pursue criminal charges against or compel testimony and documents from state Sen. Burt Jones, who is the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor in the midterms. Instead, Willis would have to defer to an independent outside group to appoint another DA to investigate Jones.

The decision came after Willis hosted a fundraiser for Charlie Bailey, a Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor, before his primary runoff, which created too much of a conflict. In the ruling disqualifying Willis, the judge wrote, an investigation of this significance, garnering the public attention it necessarily does and touching so many political nerves in our society, cannot be burdened by legitimate doubts about the District Attorneys motives. The District Attorney does not have to be apolitical, but her investigations do.
