Approval Ratings By State

Trump’s approval rating drops 6 points in new poll l ABCNews

Approval ratings vary greatly by state and can indicate how a state will vote in the upcoming 2020 Presidential Election. Since his inauguration in January 2017, President Trumps net approval has decreased in every state. President Trumps approval rating is decreasing in important states that he won in his 2016 election, including swing states and states that are consistently Republican in every election. The three key states Trump had in his 2016 election are Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, all of which currently have approval ratings under 50%.

Below are each states approval ratings for President Trump as of February 2020. Data is from a poll by the Morning Consult.

  • Net approval since Trump took office has decreased by 18 points

Veterans Group Says Trump Is Panicking As Poll Shows Military Backs Biden

A progressive veterans group is warning President Donald Trump that hes lost the support of the U.S. military at the ballot box.

Donald Trump is panicking, a new video from VoteVets said. Finding any excuse to show up in military communities. He knows if the election were held today, hed lose the military vote in a landslide.

A new poll from Military Times showed Trumps favorability rate plunging among both active-duty troops and officers. Perhaps more significantly, 41 percent plan to vote for former Vice President Joe Biden versus 37 percent for Trump.

Vote Vets said there was a simple reason for it.

Because Donald Trump disrespects those who serve, the narrator said, then listed all of the ways the president had failed to protect the troops, including the Russian bounty scandal.

Trumps refusal to defend Americas national security is dangerous, the spot noted. His refusal to stand up for our troops is humiliating. His threat to deploy active-duty troops against American citizens is unconstitutional.

Trumps Approval Rating Holding Steady At 43 Percent With 55 Percent Disapproving

The same poll found that 35 percent of voters including 74 percent of Republicans but just 30 percent of independents and 3 percent of Democrats believe President-elect Joe Biden did not win the election legitimately.

Sixty-one percent of all voters but just 21 percent of Republicans say Biden did win legitimately.

While a record 10 House Republicans broke ranks to vote for Trumps impeachment last week, his approval rating among Republicans shows few signs that GOP voters are widely disillusioned with him.

Almost 9 in 10 Republicans 87 percent give Trump a thumbs-up, compared with 89 percent who said the same before the November election.

And even for the half of Republicans who say they prioritize the GOP in general over allegiance to Trump, his high approval remains unmoved by recent events.

Among Republicans who say their primary loyalty is to Trump over the party, 98 percent approve of his performance. For those who say they prioritize the party over the president, his approval still stands at 81 percent virtually unchanged from October.

In the NBC News survey, nearly a third of GOP voters surveyed 28 percent said Trumps words and actions related to the violence at the Capitol reinforced their vote for Trump.

Just 5 percent said they now regretted their support for him, and two-thirds 66 percent said their feelings had not changed.

An additional 9 percent say Trump is not as good as most.

Trumps Approval Rating Dropping Among Independents Republicans

BBC News: Trump Tracker: How His First Two Years Have Gone ...

As part of a January national survey of likely voters, Data for Progress finds that a majority of voters support efforts to impeach the president following a deadly insurrection at the Capitol on January 6th. On the 12th of January, House Democrats officially introduced articles of impeachment against the president for his role in inciting the deadly attack, and a vote on impeachment is expected next week. As part of the same survey, we also measured the presidents job approval ratings among likely voters. We find that disapproval of the president has grown, with many Republicans and Trump 2020 voters now signaling that they disapprove of the job hes doing.

Calculating A Trend Line

Because individual polls can be noisy, we estimate how Trumps approval rating has changed over time using local polynomial regression. Basically, this consists of drawing a smooth curve over the data this method is similar to those used on Huffington Post Pollster and other sites. In the regression, polls are weighted on the basis that I described earlier, so higher-quality polls with larger sample sizes have more say in the estimate.

While local polynomial regression is a flexible and fairly intuitive method, its a bit trickier to work with than it might seem. Thats because people dont always take the time to determine the correct degree of smoothing, which is governed by several parameters, including the bandwidth and the degree of the polynomial. Too little smoothing can make the curve jut up and down unnecessarily and will result in overfitting of the data. If you smooth too much, however, the curve may be aesthetically pleasing but wont do all that good a job of describing the data and may be slow to catch up to new trends. While there are usually a wide range of reasonable settings when choosing trend-line parameters, our experience has been that people often over-smooth the data when applying these techniques.6

Other Major Findings From The Survey

Opposition to Trump, increased mail and early voting widely viewed as major reasons for election result. Two-thirds of voters say a major reason for the election result was that many voters were excited to vote against Trump majorities also cite the increased availability of mail and early voting and the Trump administrations failure to do a good job in handling the coronavirus outbreak . Only 32% cite widespread illegal voting and fraud 70% of Trump voters cite this as a major reason for the election result, compared with just 2% of Biden voters.

Most think election cheating occurs often or sometimes. About eight-in-ten Americans say political candidates and campaigns often or sometimes do illegal things to ensure they have the best chance of winning. Of those who say such activities occur , 46% say they are done about equally by both parties 27% say such actions are committed more often by Democrats and 26% more often by Republicans.

Trump job approval has fallen sharply since August.Throughout most of his presidency, Trumps job rating remained more stable than those of his predecessors it never surpassed 45% or dipped below 36%. But his job approval now stands at just 29%, down 9 percentage points since August and the lowest of his presidency. Much of the decline has come among Republicans and GOP leaners: Currently, 60% approve of his job performance 77% approved in August.

Trump Approval Rating By State 2021

The presidential job approval ratings in the U.S. were introduced in the late 1930s by George Gallup to gauge public support for the president during their term. Approval ratings are determined by polling given to a sample of people.

Like most surveys, poll results may be inaccurate due to samples that self-select. However, statisticians generally accept the approval rating as a factual indicator of the peoples feelings about the president.

As of April 2020, President Trumps approval rate is 46.0% and his disapproval is at 49.6%.

Opinion: Why Donald Trump May Lose Influence In The Republican Party

President Trumps approval rating on economy hits new high: Poll

Common wisdom holds that former president Donald Trump remains the dominant force within the Republican Party. The truth is that his personal influence and standing are not as powerful as many imagine, and his power is as likely to decline as it is to increase.

Theres no denying that many Republicans still revere Trump. He remains highly popular with GOP voters, and candidates for office still vie for his endorsement. Two recent Politico/Morning Consult polls show how strong he remains. A mid-May poll found that half of Republicans surveyed would vote for Trump in a hypothetical 2024 presidential primary matchup, and another poll released this week shows that 59 percent want Trump to play a major role in the party going forward. Trump is clearly the single most influential figure in the party today.

Other signs point to the gradual erosion of Trumps influence. Candidates may seek his support, but those who fail to get it dont drop out of the race. Trumps endorsement of Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks for his states open Senate seat did not dissuade Katie Britt, a former chief of staff to retiring Sen. Richard C. Shelby, from entering the race on Tuesday. Her three-minute announcement video barely mentions Trump and strikes traditional conservative themes of faith, family and hard work.

Trumps Approval Rating Among Republicans Is Not As High As He Claims

First off, Trumps approval rating among Republicans isnt the 94 percent he claims its actually about 10 points lower. The Washington Post provided an overview of the relevant polling last month, after Trump posted a tweet on August 23 touting the fake Republican approval number he loves to cite:

A Monmouth University poll released Thursday found 84 percent of Republicans approve of Trumps job performance, while an AP-NORC poll found that 79 percent do. His highest recent approval mark among fellow Republicans was 88 percent in a Fox News poll of registered voters earlier this month.

Trumps claim of 94 percent approval among Republicans is also higher than in a Zogby Analytics poll released earlier this month that Trump has touted. That firm, whose surveys do not rely on a random sample of U.S. voters and whose pre-election polls have often been inaccurate, put Trumps approval rating among Republicans at 86 percent.

In short, its unclear where Trump is getting his 94% number from. But whatever its origins, it is not coming from a reputable source.

Who Are The Voters Behind Trumps Higher Approval Rating

Despite the presidents slow performance on the coronavirus and his series of falsehoods, some independent voters and Democrats are giving him a measure of credit for his handling of the crisis.

Justin Penn, a Pittsburgh voter who calls himself politically independent, favored Joseph R. Biden Jr. in a matchup with President Trump until recently. But the presidents performance during the coronavirus outbreak has Mr. Penn reconsidering.

I think hes handled it pretty well, he said of the president, whose daily White House appearances Mr. Penn catches on Facebook after returning from his job as a bank security guard. I think hes tried to keep people calm, he said. I know some people dont think hes taking it seriously, but I think hes doing the best with the information he had.

Although Mr. Penn, 40, said he did not vote for Mr. Trump, his opinion of the president has improved recently and he very well might back him for a second term.

Across the country, the coronavirus has sickened more than 150,000 people, cost millions their jobs and tanked the stock market. Yet the presidents approval ratings are as high as they have ever been, despite what most agree to be his slow performance dealing with the crisis, as well as his record of falsehoods about the virus, his propensity to push ideas and treatments that contradict expert advice, and his habit of lashing out at governors on the front lines.

Trump says he is beyond seriously considering 2024 presidential run

Donald Trumps popularity among registered Republicans has fallen in the 100 days since the end of his presidency, according to a recent poll.

The NBC News poll found that Republican support for the party was greater than the support for the former president, who was favoured by 44 per cent of Republicans.

The figure for registered Republicans in favour of the party over the former president, in comparison, was at 50 per cent.

It was the first time in almost two years that support for the Republican party was greater than that for Mr Trump, NBC News reported, and the first time support for the GOP reached 50 per cent against the former president.

Among all respondents to the poll, Mr Trump was favourable for 32 per cent, and unfavourable for 55 per cent a slight worsening of Januarys figures, when the former president was 40 per cent favourable and 53 percent unfavourable among all registered voters.

When compared to the poll for November, Mr Trump was also 9 per cent less favourable and 2 per cent more unfavourable among all respondents to the NBC News poll.

In fact, a number of congressional Republicans have visited Mar-a-Lago to meet with the former president, as well as to seek his endorsement, in the 100 days since Joe Bidens presidency began.

Among all adults, as few as 21 per cent said so.
