Trump Tried To Contact Member Of White House Staff About Jan 6 Testimony Source Says
The person who former President Donald Trump allegedly tried to contact who was referenced by the House Jan. 6 committee is a member of the White House staff, a source close to the committee investigation told CBS News.
The person did not take the call and then contacted their attorney, who contacted the House Jan. 6 committee, committee vice chair Rep. Liz Cheney said Tuesday.
The call came soon after Cassidy Hutchinson, a former top aide to Trump White House chief of staff, testified at the June 28 public hearing, the committee said. Hutchinson’s bombshell testimony included that Trump wanted to join the crowd going to the Capitol on Jan. 6 and that the former president threw his lunch against the wall in Dec. 2020 after then-Attorney General Bill Barr gave an interview to the Associated Press saying there was no widespread evidence of voter fraud.
The person Trump contacted was potentially prepared to corroborate parts of Hutchinson’s blockbuster testimony, the source said.
This is not the first time the Jan. 6 committee has alleged there has been potential witness tampering. At the June 28 public hearing, Cheney said some of the witnesses who have appeared before the committee have received messages from some inner members of Trump’s circle. She read some of the texts, including one that said “he wants me to let you know he’s thinking about you. He knows you’re loyal.”

The One Time Trump Couldnt Lie His Way Out Of A Crisis
In public, Trump downplayed the pandemic. In private, he was freaking out.
During his feted trip to India in February 2020, President Trump tried to convince business leaders that the coronavirus was under control, even though he knew a pandemic was imminent. | Atul Loke/Panos Pictures/Redux Pictures

Donald Trump couldnt sleep.
It was afternoon in Washington when Larry Kudlows cell phone buzzed it was the middle of the night where the call was coming from. But that didnt matter to Kudlow, a former CNBC presence now working as a White House economic adviser, for this wasnt the first call hed received from the same man halfway around the globe.
The sun would not rise for several hours in India, but President Trump hadnt slept, pacing in his palatial New Delhi hotel suite. He was battling some jet lag, to be sure, but he wasnt awake because of that, or because he was still charged up from the 110,000-person rally he had held at the worlds largest cricket stadium or the majestic tour he had received of the Taj Mahal.
The president didnt know it yet, but he was embarking on one of the most consequential weeks of his term. At the beginning of the week, he had believed that he would be running for reelection on the back of a strong economy while facing socialist Bernie Sanders. By the end of that week, neither was true.
But publicly, Trump lied.
Trump was gasping for air.

WASHINGTON, Jan 11 The decision by tech companies to clamp down on President Donald Trumps ability to speak to followers through mainstream social media may force him to tap more traditional methods of communication or more isolated conservative online channels during his final days in office, experts say.
Twitter Inc , Facebook Inc , Alphabet Inc-owned Google , Apple Inc and Amazon.com Inc took their strongest actions yet against Trump to limit his reach, fearing continued violence stemming from his posts after his supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol building last week. They were joined by smaller tech companies including Twitch, Snapchat, Reddit, Shopify and TikTok. read more

A leaked telephone conversation with President Trump, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger of Georgia and others revealed that the president had urged the states top election official to overturn the results in his favor. The following is a transcript of the call, reported earlier by The Washington Post, which has been edited to remove the name of an election worker whom the president baselessly accused of fraud.
Donald Trump Really Wants You To Text His Name To 88022 But Will He Ever Text Back
At Donald Trump rallies and news conferences, the invocation is very often printed in the cameras lines of sight to ensure maximum exposure:
Text Trump to 88022
If you assumed this is a fundraising ploy, youd be wrong. The Republican presidential front-runner is self-funding his campaign, remember?
Instead of money, Trump ostensibly wants a channel to communicate directly with voters. His website advertises exclusive updates for those who subscribe to the texting service.
One problem: Trump doesnt seem to use the service very often.
Two weeks ago, on the day of the Wisconsin primary, I signed up and prepared for The Donald to Make My iPhone Great Again with the exclusive updates I had been promised. Heres how it went.
And then nothing for 14 days.
Last week, Fix colleague Philip Bump had the good idea to subscribe using a New York ZIP code to see whether the Trump campaign might be targeting residents of the Empire State ahead of the primary. He got nothing for five days.
Finally, on primary day Tuesday, the first exclusive updates arrived.
Later, after I asked the campaign about its use or underuse of the text line, both Bump and I received this message.
What. A. Waste.
Maybe, in another message, Trump could ask subscribers to name the No. 1 issue in the campaign: Text A for immigration, B for terrorism, C for trade, D for gun rights.
Heres what Buell recommends:

Is This Really The Suppression Of Political Speech
A lot of these systems are flagged automatically or occur when customer complaints come in, so thats a hard case to make. Theres no evidence that the carriers or their partners are flagging and blocking these messages for reasons other than preventing spam.
The telecom companies are also far more reserved when it comes to staking out a political position, with the carriers previously having praised Trump for his large corporate tax cut in 2017.
When it comes to combatting spam, the motivation is primarily driven by the need to eliminate something most people find annoying.

British Elections Send A Message To Trump Gop And Bidens Democrats
If Donald Trump were at all self-reflective, he would probably be kicking himself right now as he surveys the results of last weeks British elections. Through his own mistakes and obstinance in his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, he might conclude that he kicked away his chance to serve a second term in the White House.
These were the first elections in Britain since Boris Johnson became prime minister in 2019 and Johnsons Conservative Party came out winning, both in local races and in a signature victory in a working-class, parliamentary district in northeast England long held by the Labour Party.
Johnson, like Trump, mishandled the early stages of the pandemic. Like the former U.S. president, he contracted covid-19, and had a far worse case, having been hospitalized and in intensive care for a time. But his later handling of the pandemic was less uneven, and this year Britain stepped farther and faster in administering vaccinations than other European nations. It helped.
The British elections were not purely about the coronavirus pandemic, but nothing in politics today is free from the viruss effects in health, economic well-being and the public mood. On the most important issue of campaign 2020, Trump was a victim of his own making.
As Republicans debate Trumps role and what it means to be a conservative, Johnson, like Trump, is rewriting the rules of what conservatism means.

E Jean Carroll’s Defamation Case
E. Jean Carroll, a former Elle magazine writer, sued Trump for defamation in 2019 after the then-president denied her allegation that he raped her in the 1990s in a New York City department store. He accused her of lying to drum up sales for a book.
The 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan is poised to rule on whether Carroll’s lawsuit should be dismissed.
A lawyer for Trump has argued that he is protected by a federal law that makes government employees immune from defamation claims.

Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the founder and chairman of the Faith and Freedom Coalition. Ralph Reed.
Ralph Reed: Well, are you ready? Are you excited? Our next speaker is no stranger to this event or this stage. When he walks out here in about 30 seconds, itll be his seventh appearance at Road to Majority, and if we have anything to say about it wont be his last. He has been here as a private citizen, as a candidate, and as the leader of the free world, but more important than those titles is his testimony that he has been a friend, a champion, and a defender of the values that we hold dear. He has been a defender of the unborn. He kept his promise to us when he said he would appoint conservative and pro-life judges and justices. He is our friend and we are his friend, and therefore it is my great honor to welcome again, to this stage, Donald J. Trump, the 45th President of the United States.
Donald Trump: Bill Barr was afraid of certain things, and you know what they were? Please dont impeach me. Dont impeach me, Bill Barr. Please. I said, Whats wrong with being impeached? I got to impeached twice and my poll numbers went up.
