What’s Trump’s Approval Rating

The Sample And Margin Of Error

Trump’s approval ratings on the rise

Pollsters cant realistically contact every American adult throughout the country and ask their opinion on a given issue. Instead, they try to contact a representative sampleusually anywhere between 1,000 and 2,000 individualsthat accurately represents the countrys population as a whole. Pollsters, with the help of statisticians, demographers, and data experts, use a variety of techniques to create a representative sample. This typically involves using probability formulas and algorithms to ensure random sampling and to increase the likelihood of contacting an accurate cross-section of the U.S. adult population. Some pollsters also create panels of respondents that they believe reflect the actual population and poll them repeatedly over a span of time. These polls are usually called tracking polls. Oftentimes, pollsters weigh their respondents to account for various demographic measurements. For example, a pollster might weigh more heavily the responses from a specific demographic group if that group was poorly represented in the random sample in relation to the countrys estimated demographic composition. The same might be done if a group appears to be overrepresented.

Even If It Were True 94 Percent Republican Approval Would Not Be A Record

Its not the case that Trumps approval rating among Republicans is 94 percent, but even if it were, it wouldnt be the record he claims.

As Politifact detailed in June, when Trump claimed during a news conference with then-British Prime Minister Theresa May that I have a 90 to 94 percent approval rating, as of this morning, in the Republican Party an all-time record, he was discounting George W. Bushs GOP approval rating in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, which hit 99 percent. In fact, Trumps Republican approval rating during his first 30 months in office lagged behind not just George W. Bush, but George H.W. Bush as well.

So Trumps claim is a lie about a lie. But that sort of thing is par for the course for him.

How Do Americans View Bidens Handling Of The Pandemic And The Economy

Most Americans think Biden is handling the coronavirus pandemic far better than Trump. Sixty-two percent approve of how Biden has managed the U.S. response so far. Another 30 percent say they disapprove.

Chart by Megan McGrew/PBS NewsHour

The publics approval of Bidens actions far exceeds that earned by Trumps leadership during the pandemic. His highest approval rating was 18 points lower, at 44 percent in March 2020, the same month the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 to be a pandemic and Trump labeled it a public health emergency. From there, his approval on handling the pandemic dropped as low as 37 percent, recovering slightly to 39 percent by the time he left office in January.

But Americans have less faith in Bidens ability to heal the nations wounded economy compared to Trump. While 46 percent of U.S. adults approve of how Biden has managed the economy, another 41 percent do not approve. During Trumps last days in office, half of Americans said they approved of the former presidents handling of the economy, a sentiment thatTrump leveraged throughout his presidency and in his 2020 campaign for a second term.

Keanu Adams, 25, of Vacaville, California, said he voted for Biden and hopes the president recognizes the country needs more than public health and economic fixes right now.

The nation needs to uproot systemic problems to address what is really wrong, Adams said.

Trump Approval Rating Falls To New Low After Capitol Assault

Donald TrumpDefense & National Security Biden marks Veterans DayTrump endorses Texas rep who said he ‘very well may have’ committed impeachable offensesMOREs approval rating has cratered after he incited a deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, led by a dramatic drop in support among voters of his own party.

A new Pew Research Center poll released Friday found just 29 percent of Americans approve of the job Trump is doing in office, by far the lowest rating he has received during his presidency. More than 2 in 3 Americans, 68 percent, disapprove of his handling of the job.

A majority of voters, 56 percent, say they very strongly disapprove of his job performance.

The rating makes Trump one of the least popular presidents of all time, a nadir comparable to the percentage of Americans who approved of Richard Nixons job performance when he resigned from office in disgrace. Just 26 percent of Americans said they approved of Nixons job performance when he left office in 1974.

The president’s decline comes almost entirely because of a drop in support among Republicans and those who lean toward the GOP. Just 60 percent of those voters approve of Trumps job performance today, down from 77 percent in August.

All three of those polls registered a decline since their last survey.

Fifty-six percent of adults interviewed said Trump should be removed from office.

The infrastructure bill, which passed Friday with some bipartisan support, is backed by 2-1 among those surveyed. The supporters include a third of Republicans.

“We’re not keeping our infrastructure updated I don’t mean currently updated, I mean since 1930, some of these things have been in place,” says Kathleen Loyd, 70, a retired juvenile court officer from Piedmont, in southeast Missouri. She dodges potholes when she drives and had to remodel her kitchen after a water main broke.

Virginia, New Jersey elections:How Democrats lost voters, and what it means for 2022

Americans are closely divided on the “Build Back Better” act pressed by congressional Democrats. In the poll, 47% support the $1.85 trillion bill 44% oppose it. The sweeping measure includes more than $500 billion in climate change and clean energy funding. It would establish pre-K for all 3- and 4-year-olds extend the child tax credit for one year expand Medicaid coverage in some states add hearing coverage to Medicare and finance affordable housing programs.

The White House and its allies haven’t persuaded most Americans that the measure would benefit them, at least not yet. Those surveyed are a bit more likely to say its provisions would hurt their families rather than help them, 30%-26%. Thirty-one percent say it would not have much effect.

Those findings reflect either a failure of communication by the bill’s backers or a disconnect with what voters feel they most need.

‘he Lost To Biden’: Chris Christie Takes The Gloves Off And Taunts Trump’s Election Defeat To Joe In Response To Statement Mocking His ‘9% Approval Rating’ Ahead Of 2024 Showdown

  • Christie and Trump have traded blows since the former Garden State governor told GOP donors that the party has to move past 2020 election fraud claims
  • Trump incorrectly accused Christie of having a 9% approval rating when he left office, when in reality it was 19% – still the lowest in New Jersey history
  • His recent publicity tour has fueled rumors Christie will run for the White House
  • A number of scandals that tanked his approval rating in New Jersey, combined with Trump’s enduring popularity, may make him a longshot chance for 2024

The Claim: President Joe Bidens Approval Rating Is 39% And Lower Than Donald Trumps Ever Was

After the chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in August, President Joe Biden’s approval ratings took a hit. But some online posts exaggerate the depth of the drop.

Text in reads, “Joe Biden’s approval falls to 39 percent, worse than Trump’s approval ever.” The post did not indicate which poll it’s referring to.

A similar post accumulated 46,000 likes in six days before it was deleted. Other claims in this vein have racked up hundreds of interactions on Facebook and Instagram, according to CrowdTangle, a social media insights tool.

The claim is misleading. While one poll did put Bidens approval rating at 39%, the polling average a more accurate measure of a president’s popularity put it higher. Experts say Biden’s approval rating, the lowest since he took office, is still higher than Trumps term low.

USA TODAY reached out to several social media users who shared the claim for comment.

Trump sees highest approval rating yet as US economy booms

Well, Donald Trump is not the prettiest girl at the ball any longer. Oh, he believes that he is, but the pumpkin coach and footmen are waiting for him right outside of the castle entrance waiting to take him back to Never Never Never Land. The clock has ticked past midnight, and his gown has gone back to its tattered self. He is just pitiful, limping around the dance floor, his own raggedly self. Apparently, he lost one of his breaking-glass slippers when he was jumping up and down during a televised wrestling match trying to get his face all over the camera, trying to capture Americas attention. See what we mean.

CNN just released a new poll. And the exs number look pretty grim as the CNN Poll indicated:

Republicans and Republican-leaning independents say, 63% to 37%, that Trump should be the leader of the Republican Party. But they are about evenly split over whether having the defeated former President back on the ticket in 2024 would be an advantage.

Trump came across as a real loser:

Fifty-one percent say that Republicans have a better chance of retaking the presidency if Trump is the nominee, with 49% saying the party would be better off with a different nominee. Thats a very different landscape from 2019 when more than three-quarters of Republicans said their party had a better shot in 2020 with Trump as their nominee than they would with a different candidate.

Subsequently, the former presidents support does not reflect an equal distribution:

A Third Of The Gop Is Skeptical Of Trump But Half Of That Group Prefers Trump

President Bidens approval ratings have been unusually stable for a very simple reason: Democrats like him a lot, and Republicans dont. Thats a majority of Americans with strong, mostly unmoving opinions, meaning that variations that occur wont move the top-line number very much. Its an artifact of the sharp polarization the country has been experiencing for years and is not something unique to Biden. President Donald Trump saw a similar effect for nearly all of his time in office as did President Barack Obama after an initial honeymoon period.

One effect of that stability is that we dont spend very much time talking about Bidens approval numbers. News organizations tend to focus on whats new or otherwise notable, and months of slightly-above-50-percent polling aint that.

What is unusual, though, are the number of Republicans who, despite their skepticism of Biden, approve of his handling of the coronavirus pandemic. About a third of Republicans think Biden is handling the pandemic well, according to new polling from Quinnipiac University. Thats about four times as many Republicans as approve of Bidens performance overall or view him favorably. Its an unusual bit of semi-bipartisanship getting a third of Republicans to say anything positive about Biden seems remarkable.

Among Republicans, it continues to not be enough for Biden simply to not be Trump.

What Would Make You Change Your Mind About Donald J Trump

When Michael Tesler, a political scientist at the University of California Irvine, tries to explain the amazing stability of Trumps approval in his classes, he starts with a question. He asks his students if theres anything Trump could do to make them support him. And hes invariably met by a sea of shaking heads. If you went into Trumps presidency thinking hes a racist, sexist, xenophobic, immoral, narcissistic, corrupt, and incompetent person beliefs held by most Clinton voters then theres literally almost nothing he could do to change your mind, says Tesler.

The same is true in reverse. If you see Trump as the protector of Western Civilization, as Charlie Kirk called him the other night at the RNC, or the protector of white America, as Desmond King and Rogers Smith have called him, defending cherished American values from atheist, left-wing socialists who want to take your guns and put Cory Booker in charge of diversifying your neighborhoods, then theres almost nothing that would make you abandon him, Tesler continues.

But how do we know if were being governed with a bare level of competence?

Trump Does Especially Well With Vaccine

The poll results show Trump does especially well among people who have not been vaccinated and do not intend to be vaccinated, Selzer said.

He is viewed favorably by 86% of Iowans who say they are not vaccinated and do not plan to become vaccinated.

Thats on par with Reynolds, who also is viewed favorably by 86% of vaccine-resistant Iowans. But far fewer vaccine-resistant Iowans view the states two Republican senators favorably. Sixty percent of those who are not vaccinated and do not plan to become vaccinated view Grassley favorably, and 67% view U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst favorably.

Trump has been vaccinated, but he did so in private and he said in a September interview with the Wall Street Journal that he is unlikely to get the booster shot authorized by the Food and Drug Administration for those 65 and older and for people with weakened immune systems.

He has publicly touted the aggressive timeline during which the vaccines were developed while he was in office. But at an August rally in Alabama, he was briefly booed for urging his supporters to get the shot.

You got to do what you have to do, but I recommend: Take the vaccines, he said at the rally. I did it its good.

Reynolds, Grassley and Ernst all have been vaccinated against COVID-19 and have publicly recommended that others do the same. But they and Trump have all drawn a firm line when it comes to any kind of vaccine mandate.
