Is Trump The Only Republican Running For President

Former Us Ambassador To The United Nations Nikki Haley

Judge Jeanine: Trump will run for president now because his buttons have been pushed

Haley, 49, stands out in the potential pool of 2024 Republican candidates by her resume. She has experience as an executive as the former governor of South Carolina and foreign policy experience from her time as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Haley was a member of the Republican Partys 2010 tea party class. A former South Carolina state representative, her long shot gubernatorial campaign saw its fortunes improve after she was endorsed by Sarah Palin. Haley rocketed from fourth to first just days after the endorsement, and she went on to clinch the nomination and become her states first female and first Indian-American governor.

As governor, she signed a bill removing the Confederate flag from the state Capitol following the white supremacist attack at the Emanuel African Methodist Church in Charleston. She left office in 2017 to join the Trump administration as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, and Quinnipiac poll found she was at one point the most popular member of Trumps foreign policy team.

I think that shes done a pretty masterful job in filling out her resume, said Robert Oldendick, a professor and director of graduate studies at the University of South Carolinas department of political science.

Haley criticized Trump following the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol by his supporters, saying she was disgusted by his conduct. Oldendick said he thought her pretty pointed criticism of the president will potentially cause some problems.

Theyre All Uniformly Thankful

In June, Bowers testified before the January 6 committee about the months of harassment outside his home that hed endured from supporters of the former president. He also described the deluge of phone and email messages registering disapproval at his refusal to bend to Trumps will.

Now, in the throes of another political campaign, Bowers seems to be used to confrontation.

Bowers now says that nobodys come by the house of late, though he said some friends had suggested he prepare for the possibility for further demonstrations in light of Trumps recent visit to the state.

And he told Insider that hes continuing to get basically the same type of harassment online that Ive gotten for the last two years, but pays it little mind.

I dont Twitter, he said. I told the President that I dont tweet.

Bowers told Insider that hes received mostly positive responses from people whove approached him about his committee testimony, particularly among fellow members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and in his neighborhood on the northern edge of Mesa.

Especially in my neighborhood. Ds, Rs, Is, people from space, he said. Theyre all uniformly thankful.

Bowers concedes, however, that the most committed party activists in his district are incensed with him.

The fix is with the district leadership and in the Republican women, said Bowers. The fix is all in for Trump and Dave, theyve been working at it for months.

Icymi: Joe Biden Characterises Pro

Sunday 28 August 2022 02:00 , Alex Woodward

In a rally marking his return to the campaign trail ahead of 2022 midterm elections and the 2024 presidential race, Joe Biden excoriated his Donald Trumps far-right movement as semi-fascism committed to destroying America.

What were seeing now is either the beginning or the death knell of extreme Maga philosophy, the president told a group of assembled party donors. Its not just Trump, its the entire philosophy that underpins the Im going to say something, its like semi-fascism.

What Can The Not

Is Trump going to run for President in 2024? Hes considering it ...

The anti-Donald Trump wing of the Republican Party is taking stock of its power — such as it is — and gauging what success looks like as it comes into perhaps its most defined form yet in the wake of some major defeats.

Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney’s primary loss this month, followed by her formation of a group targeting election deniers and her repeated openness to a 2024 presidential run, anointed her the de facto leader of the sliver of the GOP opposing the former president.

Joining Cheney in pushing for an alternative party leader are figures like outgoing Govs. Larry Hogan of Maryland and Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas — also floating 2024 presidential bids of their own — and retiring Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who launched his own anti-Trump PAC.

While the members of this wing have become more prominent, they do not all share the same approach.

As Cheney and her allies stare down long, if not impossible, odds in toppling Trump from his perch as GOP kingmaker and likely 2024 nominee, some of them say they’ll settle for trying to make Trump unpalatable to a general electorate in two years instead of a fatalistic bid to wrench the party from his grasp.

“Why couldn’t she shift some fundamental dynamic? Not to win a Republican primary, but to peel off voters or to help motivate soft Democrats,” Sarah Longwell, the executive director of Republican Accountability Project, told ABC News.

And even if Trump were not to be elected back into the White House, his influence endures.

What Has Trumps Campaign Said About Running In 2024

It was reported that preliminary planning had started to kick off a new Trump bid but no further decisions have been made, report CBS.

The presidents former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon claimed that Trump would not miss a shot to run for office again if given the chance.

Bannon told The Australian: Ill make this prediction right now: If for any reason the election is stolen from or in some sort of way Joe Biden is declared the winner, Trump will announce hes going to run for re-election in 2024, he said.

Youre not going to see the end of Donald Trump.

Some government officials even suggested that the GOP would not function or exist if Trump is not president.

Former Trump Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur said: Whether in three days or in three years, the Republican Party will have to grapple with the basic question: Does the GOP exist without Trump? Not his message, not his policies, but Trump himself.

Its like asking if the John Wick franchise works without Keanu Reeves.

Bryan Lanza, former communications director for the presidents transition team, said he can make a strong case to run again..

Lanza added that Trump would be younger than Biden is now if he ran again in 2024.

Biden took office at 78 years old.

Speaking on the Today program, Lanza said: Biden will have the opportunity to guide this country out of Covid, and well see what his successes and failures are.

Trump Should Announce Run For 2024 Soon To Avoid Indictment Source Says

Donald Trump has to announce a campaign for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 in the next two weeks, according to a senior source close to Trump, if the former president wants to head off being indicted under the Espionage Act after the FBI search at Mar-a-Lago last week.

In communications reviewed by the Guardian, the source indicated Trump needed to announce because politically it would be harder for the US Department of Justice to indict a candidate for office than a former president out of the electoral running.

A source also suggested Ron DeSantis, Trumps only serious competitor in Republican polling, will not run in 2024 if Trump chooses to enter the race.

He can wait, the source said of the Florida governor.

In contrast, a former White House official said Trump could yet decide not to run, for fear of losing his grip on his party and role as a kingmaker should an indictment force him to drop out of the race.

A search warrant unsealed on Friday showed that the FBI seized from Mar-a-Lago five sets of top secret documents, three sets of secret documents and three sets of confidential documents, as well as other records.

It was reported that some seized documents concerned nuclear weapons. Trump called that report a hoax.

The warrant also revealed Trump to be under investigation for possible violations of the Espionage Act, which dates from 1917 and has been used to go after whistleblowers.

But his legal jeopardy extends further.

Can We Expect Anything Other Than Biden Vs Trump In 2024

A FiveThirtyEight Chat

Welcome to FiveThirtyEights politics chat. The transcript below has been lightly edited.

sarah : We know the 2022 midterm elections havent happened yet, but this summer has seen an unusual amount of activity on the 2024 front.

Namely, many Americans, including Democrats, are really down on the idea of President Biden seeking a second term, while former President Donald Trump continues to dominate the news cycle. A sizable portion of Americans say they dont want Biden or Trump to have a second term, but is there, uh a path for anyone who isnt Trump or Biden in 2024?

Lets tackle this chat in two parts:

  • First, what is the case for or against any other Democratic presidential candidate breaking through?
  • And second, what is the case for or against any other Republican presidential candidate breaking through?
  • OK, first up. Is there a Democrat who can take on Biden?

alex : I dont think so, Sarah, especially if Trump is the nominee. If Trump announces that hes running for a second term, I think: 1) Biden will run again, and 2) there wont be a damaging primary to take him down.

What Democrat is going to take Biden on against Trump? Democrats will coalesce around the nominee who can beat Trump, and Biden has already proved that he can.

alex: Right, Nathaniel. I just dont see notable Democrats wanting to participate in a messy, protracted primary against the sitting president. It would be a terrible look for the party.

    nrakich: Yes!

Republican Congressman On Jan 6 Committee Condemns Gops Disgusting Defence Of Trump

    Sunday 28 August 2022 14:38 , Alex Woodward

Republican US Rep Adam Kinzinger slammed members of his party for what he called their disgusting defence of Trump following the Justice Departments investigation into classified White House documents at Mar-a-Lago that investigators have warned could obstruct justice, jeopardise national security and compromise intelligence operations.

If any of us in the House of Representatives … walked out intentionally with even one document from the and our organisation came to us, the House came to us, and said you got to get this back, and we refused to do it for years? Wed be in real trouble, he told NBCs Meet the Press on Sunday.

The hypocrisy of folks in my party that spent years chanting lock her up about Hillary Clinton because of some deleted emails or wiping a server are out here defending a man who very clearly did not take the national security to heart, he said. This is disgusting, in my mind. No president should act this way, obviously.

Who Is Brave Enough To Be Trumps 2024 Running Mate

At Reagan National Airport, I saw a newsstand selling t-shirts with Donald Trump asking, Do you miss me yet? But how can we miss him if he never went away?

The 45th president vacated the White House but not the news cycle, and Republicans want more. Last week, a Hill-HarrisX poll found 77 percent of GOP voters support a Trump 2024 run, as did a Quinnipiac poll, reporting 78 percent support.

Although 2024 is three years away, it appears that Trump has claimed the Republican presidential nomination unless derailed by a severe health, legal or political crisis worse than two impeachments.

If Trump runs again, he is essentially the incumbent, Matt Schlapp, the influential chairman of the annual CPAC conference, told me in a recent interview. Then this week, Trump released a statement quoting GOP pollster John McLaughlin, who says, Trump would win in a landslide right now. He would beat either Biden or Harris. Hes ahead of Harris 49 to 46 in the poll.

More constructive than long lists of specific names this early in the 2024 cycle are questions and answers that complicate Trumps search for a Number Two.

First, any prospective VP should examine the post-election conflict between Trump and Pence, asking themselves: On Jan. 6, would I have acquiesced to Trumps demands or acted like Pence in accordance with the VPs constitutional role? Inevitably, candidates must be prepared for that question with the correct answer a litmus test for selection.

Poll: Fewer Than Half Of Republican Primary Voters Would Support Trump In 2024

Is There Any Republicans Running For President Besides Trump

    Print

Just over half of Republicans likely to vote in their party’s 2024 presidential primary say that they would prefer someone other than former President Donald Trump as the party’s presidential candidate, a poll released on Tuesday by The New York Times and Siena College found.

After identifying Republicans likely to vote in the primary, the survey gave respondents a choice between Trump and five other potential GOP nominees. Only 49% of respondents chose Trump, despite the fact that the former president carried 94% of all Republican votes in the 2020 election, which he lost to current President Joe Biden.

Trump’s closest challenger was Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who was chosen by 25% of respondents. Other potential candidates included Texas Senator Ted Cruz Trump’s one-time running mate, former Vice President Mike Pence former South Carolina governor and Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo .

    Is Trump vulnerable?

The biggest question raised by the poll is whether it indicates that Trump might be vulnerable to a challenge in the Republican primary elections in 2024. Experts said that the results should be read with caution.

While Trump’s lack of a clear majority in the poll may raise some eyebrows, “He’s still pretty far ahead,” Kyle Kondik, managing editor of Sabato’s Crystal Ball at the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics, told VOA.

Sen Tim Scott Of South Carolina

Scott showed up in the February Morning Consult/Politico poll as one of a handful of other 2024 presidential candidates respondents would vote for in 2024.

When Scott, 55, spoke at last summers Republican National Convention, he mentioned fairness and equality, and listed the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor among the events that had tested the nation. It was an optimistic speech, and it sounded unlike anything we were used to hearing from the Trump-era Republican Party.

Scott was first elected to the Charleston County Council in 1995. He then served in the South Carolina House of Representatives before being elected to the U.S. House for two terms. In 2013, he became the first African American since Reconstruction to represent a southern state in the U.S. Senate. He is unmarried.

‘lindsey Graham Has Hit Rock Bottom’: Lawrence Odonnell Chastises The Republican Senator For Predicting Riots

The Last Word With Lawrence ODonnell kicked off Monday with ODonnell railing against Sen. Lindsey Graham, who predicted on Fox News over the weekend that there would be riots in the streets if former President Donald Trump were to be indicted. The FBI seized hundreds of highly classified documents the former president took to his Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Fla., when he left office.

Well, Lindsey Graham has hit rock bottom, ODonnell said. Rock bottom is the sad term that AA uses for the spot where people who drink too much have to find themselves before they can help themselves or be helped. But there is no cure for what has sunk Lindsey Graham to his own very dangerous rock bottom.

ODonnell claimed that no sitting senator has ever made such a threat against the country.

No senator in history has ever predicted or threatened riots in the streets if a friend of that senator was prosecuted, ODonnell said. The so-called friend in this case is Donald Trump, who is an actual friend to no one, as Lindsey Graham so tragically knows.

ODonnell also recalled the South Carolina Republicans previous condemnation of the man he now goes to great lengths to defend. In 2016, Graham said that if Trump were to be the GOP nominee, they would be destroyed in the election, and that they would deserve it. Graham also went so far to say that he wouldnt vote for Trump.

The Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell airs weeknights at 10 p.m. on MSNBC.
