Us Election : Has Trump Delivered On His Promises
Its been four years since Donald Trump made a string of promises during his long 2016 campaign to be the 45th president of the United States. Four years later, his supporters often cite promises made, promises kept as a reason why theyre backing him again.
Many of them made headlines from banning all Muslims entering the US, to building a border wall paid for by Mexico.
But others went a little under the radar, like his pledge to eliminate the national debt.
So how has he done in keeping his promises?
What About The Debt
Biden inherited substantial debt and deficit from the Trump administration. Despite promises to reduce the national debt, Trump, the self-proclaimed king of debt, instigated tax cuts that caused an expansive gap with the national debt rising by almost $7.8trn creating the third-biggest deficit increase of any presidential administration.
Unlike Trump, Biden has raised taxes in a move that Donovan says is typical for Democrats. He believes that a more balanced approach would work better for investors: They have got to meet somewhere in the middle. This proposed increase of payroll tax on $400,000 12.4% is misguided and should never be passed. That is unnecessarily taking money from people who have earned it.
For such a rigorous spending plan though, Edwards believes that tax rises are inevitable if there is to be meaningful progress on long-term issues facing the US. The ambition for this administration is to increase federal spending across a range of initiatives and to pay for much of this by increasing corporate income taxes from 21% to 28% and to increase personal income tax for everyone earning more than $400,000 per year by increasing the rates of income, payroll and capital gains taxes,” he says. “None of this has yet happened and the next few months will be crucial.
When He Seemingly Told Police Officers To Rough Up Suspects

In 2017, Trump gave a speech in Long Island to members of the Suffolk County Police Department. In it, he seemed to encourage roughing up suspects, saying:
When you guys put somebody in the car and you’re protecting their head, you know, the way you put their hand over, like, don’t hit their head and they’ve just killed somebody. Don’t hit their head. I said, you can take the hand away, okay?
He doubled down, saying Dont be too nice. The remarks drew such criticism that Suffolk County even tweeted a rejoinder.

Trump’s 2020 Reelection Campaign And Second Impeachment
In his reelection campaign for 2020 against Democratic opponent, Joe Biden, Trump doubled down on his core issues of bringing back the economy following the devastation of the COVID-19 pandemic, boosting job growth, an America First approach to trade and foreign policy and a hardline stance on immigration.
Trump continued to hold large rallies, as he did during his 2016 campaign, despite the risks of coronavirus. Most of these rallies were held outside to mitigate risk. Trump also said he was all for masks, but rarely wore one himself.
In October, Trump, as well as several of his cabinet members, contracted the coronavirus. He was hospitalized at Walter Reed Medical Center for three days where he received multiple treatments, including an experimental antibody. Upon his release, Trump told reporters that he felt better than I have in a long time.
In the final days of his campaign, Trump continued to declare himself the president of law and order, pushing back on calls for police reform amid the outcry over racial injustice and police brutality. Just over a week before Election Day, the U.S. Senate voted 52-48 to confirm Trumps nomination to the Supreme Court, Amy Coney Barrett, who had clerked with the late conservative Justice Antonin Scalia.
In a break with tradition, Trump did not attend the inauguration of President Biden, becoming one of only seven presidents in U.S. history who did not attend their successors inauguration.

What’s Trump’s key legacy?
The last gasps of his administration are the most consequential, as he exerts a control over his most devoted followers and he’s talking about running again.
He forced people to consider what the presidency has become in a way that wasn’t true I think either during the Bush or Obama administrations. Issues like the 25th Amendment and impeachment hasn’t been thought of since Bill Clinton, really.
It’s possible that people now when they think of the presidency are perhaps going to adopt a different stance going forward, knowing that someone like Trump could come along.
It’s possible that Congress will delegate less to the president and take away some authority.
What else stands out to you?
The president has demonstrated that there’s a constituency who’s opposed to a lot of these trade deals and that there are people willing to vote for those who will either extricate us from these trade deals or “make them fairer”.
The president has also suggested that China has been taking advantage of the United States in ways that are deleterious to our economic and national security – and I think there’s a consensus behind this view. No one wants to be accused of being soft on China, whereas no one cares if you’re “soft” on Canada, right?

Justice Department Guidance On Religious Freedom
Just as Trump had called for in his May executive order, Attorney General Jeff Sessions in October issued a sweeping guidance on religious freedom to all federal agencies.
As there is much debate surrounding the intersection of religious freedom and LGBT rights, Sessions order states that The Free Exercise Clause protects not just the right to believe or the right to worship it protects the right to perform or abstain from performing certain physical acts in accordance with ones beliefs.
The guidance also states that individuals and organizations dont lose their rights to religious liberty protections under federal law simply because of their employment status or their affiliation with any level government.
The guidance explains that agencies must not second-guess the reasonableness of a religious belief, adding that religious freedom protections apply to all sincerely held religious beliefs, whether or not central to, or mandated by, a particular religious organization or tradition.
Sessions guidance went on to add that religious freedom protections are not lost in situations in which religious exemptions could deprive a third party of a particular benefit.

But there was more to the Trump presidency than attention-hogging political drama and conflict often unnoticed, Trump and his administration actually did succeed in changing some of the ways Washington works.
From imposing a ban on Chinese-made drones to rolling back rules on sexual harassment, from cracking down on robocalls to letting states legalize marijuana, Trump changed some key areas of federal policy in ways that may have lasting impact well after hes gone.

Lawsuits Around 2020 Election Fraud Claims
Trump and his team filed dozens of lawsuits regarding the procedures in the 2020 presidential election and Joe Biden’s victory. Georgia Cobb County and DeKalb County filed lawsuits to recover costs associated with what DeKalb County called “unsubstantiated and frivolous claims.”
In November 2020, the Michigan Welfare Rights Organization along with three black voters filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump and his presidential campaign for allegedly disenfranchising black voters in Michigan. The following month, the NAACP filed an amendment complaint, this time adding the Republican National Committee as an defendant, in which the civil rights organization accused Trump, his presidential campaign and the RNC of coordinated conspiracy to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of voters in targeted cities with large black populations, such as Atlanta, Milwaukee and Philadelphia.
In February 2021, U.S. Representative Bennie Thompson filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers for conspiring to attack the Capitol. In February 2022, a federal judge ruled that the lawsuit could proceed.

It would be foolish to start celebrating the end of US President Donald Trumps administration, but it is not too soon to ponder the impact he will have left on the international economic system if his Democratic challenger, Joe Biden, wins Novembers election. In some areas, a one-term Trump presidency would most likely leave an insignificant mark, which Biden could easily erase. But in several others, the last four years may well come to be seen as a watershed. Moreover, the long shadow of Trumps international behaviour will weigh on his eventual successor.

On climate change, Trumps dismal legacy would be quickly wiped out. Biden has pledged to rejoin the 2015 Paris climate agreement on day one of his administration, achieve climate neutrality by 2050, and lead a global coalition against the climate threat. If this happens, Trumps noisy denial of scientific evidence will be remembered as a minor blip.

As the Black Lives Matter protests escalated across the United States following the death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers, Trump decided to show no compassion or words of solace or peace.
Instead, he order the military to hit protesters outside of the White House with tear gas just so he could walk a few metres across the street and hold up a bible outside of a church for a shameless photo op, a stunt which left the churches resident distraught.

Enacting An Executive Order On Religious Liberty
On the National Day of Prayer in May, Trump gathered a number of the nations leading evangelical and Christian leaders at the White House Rose Garden and signed an executive order on free speech and religious liberty.
Among other things, the order instructed the Department of Treasury and the IRS not to take adverse action against churches and 501 nonprofits that speak out about moral and political issues in accordance with their faith.
The move was Trumps attempt at taking the teeth out of the Johnson Amendment, a 1954 law that bans tax-exempt nonprofits from engaging in political campaigning. It was a law that Trump had vowed to abolish during the campaign.
The executive order also called on the Department of Justice to issue guidance to federal agencies about how they can best protect religious liberty as it applies under federal law. The order also called on the Department of Health and Human Services to consider providing religious exemptions to an Obamacare contraception mandate that religious organizations felt violated their religious convictions.
