Blunt Touts Top Foreign Policy Accomplishments Under Trump Administration

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, U.S. Senator Roy Blunt , amember of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, spoke on the Senatefloor to tout Americas foreign policy accomplishments under the Trumpadministration, like improving ties between U.S. allies in the Middle East, applying maximum pressure on the Iranian regime, and creating a more levelplaying field for U.S. trade.

Following Are Excerpts of Blunts Remarks:

I want to talk today for a few minutes about something thatI don’t think has gotten the attention it deserves and that’s the manysuccesses in foreign policy over the last four years. I think at the top of mylist of foreign policy successes, in terms of unanticipated accomplishments, that we would not have thought would happen would be the Abraham Accords thatwere signed at the White House in September. This agreement paves the way fornormalized relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, and Israeland Bahrain, and I believe really establishes a way where the rest of theMiddle East could hopefully follow this step in the right direction.

What we see when we look at this and other events in recenttimes, is that when our friends become friends with each other, we win. TheUnited States wins when our friends also become friends with each other. Thisagreement can be a model for future progress in the region. It’s the first timein four decades that any Arab country has recognized Israel.

Trump Opened A Complaint Platform To Report Censorship On Facebook Twitter And Youtube

The Trump administration launched a website in May asking for examples of Americans being censored on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

At the time, the form asked users to submit their name, phone number and whether they are a U.S. citizen, USA TODAY reported. Then it asked for incidents of censorship.

“SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS should advance FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Yet too many Americans have seen their accounts suspended, banned, or fraudulently reported for unclear ‘violations’ of user policies,” the White House website reads.

The website says it is no longer accepting new responses.

Reviving The National Aeronautics And Space Administration

In his first 100 days, President Trump signed the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Transition Authorization Act of 2017, which acting Administrator Robert Lightfoot said was vital for our nations space, aeronautics, science, and technology development programs to thrive.

While it garners little attention no doubt because we tend to view legislation in terms of partisan victories the authorization act will have longstanding impact on the nation and humankind. Mr. Lightfoot added that the bill ensures our nations space program will remain the worlds leader in pioneering new frontiers in exploration, innovation, and scientific achievement.

In December, President Trump signed White House Space Policy Directive 1, a public-private partnership for human missions to the Moon, Mars and beyond. The U.S.-led program represents the latest change in national space policy under the Trump Administration aimed at renewing U.S. engagement in space.

In July, President Trump revived the National Space Council and empowered them to help implement his space policy to make human exploration of the solar system a national priority. White House Space Policy Directive 1 was the result of a unanimous recommendation made by the new council, which is chaired by Vice President Mike Pence, after its first meeting on October 5.

$100m To Flint Michigan

Lets take a look at the odd list of Trump accomplishments ...

Water contamination crisis started in April 2014

Its true that in March 2017, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded a $100 million grant to the state of Michigan to upgrade the drinking water infrastructure in Flint, which experienced a lead pollution crisis potentially affecting as many as 100,000 people beginning in 2014. There has been some dispute, however, over whether this ought to be labeled a Trump accomplishment or an Obama accomplishment.

As we noted in a previous article, funding for the grant came from a bill signed by President Obama in 2016, though the monies werent officially awarded until after he left office, hence some prefer to credit it to Trump.

Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

For nearly 40 years, Republicans have tried and failed to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil drilling. Since the 1980s, the effort always failed in the face of intense opposition because weak congressional Republicans were too afraid of the Democrat-Big Media coalition.

They repeatedly abandoned the decades-old campaign promise.

Yet, a provision for drilling in ANWR was included in the Presidents signature tax bill with minimal backlash.

Restoring American Leadership Abroad

Restored Americas leadership in the world and successfully negotiated to ensure our allies pay their fair share for our military protection.

  • Secured a $400 billion increase in defense spending from NATO allies by 2024, and the number of members meeting their minimum obligations more than doubled.
  • Worked to reform and streamline the United Nations and reduced spending by $1.3 billion.
  • Allies, including Japan and the Republic of Korea, committed to increase burden-sharing.
  • Protected our Second Amendment rights by announcing the United States will never ratify the UN Arms Trade Treaty.
  • Returned 56 hostages and detainees from more than 24 countries.
  • Worked to advance a free and open Indo-Pacific region, promoting new investments and expanding American partnerships.

Advanced peace through strength.

Renewed our cherished friendship and alliance with Israel and took historic action to promote peace in the Middle East.

Stood up against Communism and Socialism in the Western Hemisphere.

Inauguration Day : Heres The Schedule Of Events As Joe Biden Kamala Harris Take Office

First 500 days: Trump’s accomplishments

But it remains unclear how many people will be there to see him off. Several former administration officials-turned-Trump critics have expressed surprise that they received invitations. And even Vice President Mike Pence will be absent. A person familiar with his schedule cited the logistical challenges of getting from the base back to D.C. for Bidens inauguration ceremonies, which Pence will be attending.

Trump has also refused to take part in any of the symbolic passing-of-the-torch traditions that have been the capstones of the peaceful transition of power from one administration to the next. He is boycotting not just the ceremony at the Capitol, but also passed on inviting the Bidens to the White House for a get-to-know-you meeting. And it remains unclear whether he will write Biden a personal welcome letter, like the one he received from former President Obama when he moved in.

Denied his Twitter bullhorn and with little else planned, Trump did participate in multiple meetings over the long weekend to discuss pending clemency actions, according to a White House official, who, like others, spoke on condition of anonymity because the action had yet to be made public.

Trump has since been impeached for a second time and a sense of wariness has set in, with the presidents inner circle fearful of doing anything that could provoke a conviction in the Senate that would potentially bar him from ever holding office again.

Replacing Nafta With Usmca

Three years after he signed off the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, Trump fulfilled a key promise of his 2016 election campaign by renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement and replacing it with a new deal.

The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement was signed off in January this year after two years of negotiations between the three nations over a deal touching on $1 trillion of trade.

In typical fashion, the president called the bill the “best and most important trade deal” that had ever been made by the U.S., and argued that it would be “good for everybody” in the country.

The Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi did not quite match the president’s praise for his own deal, but she did accept that the agreement was “much better than NAFTA” thanks in part to negotiations involving her party.

Trump Issued An Executive Order To Reopen States Governors Who Refuse Will Be Sued

Trump did not sign an executive order requiring states to reopen, according to the Federal Register, which archives executive orders, and even if he did want to open states, its not likely hed have the power to do so.

“Trump has no authority to ease social distancing, or to open schools or private businesses,” Kathleen Bergin, a professor at Cornell Law School, told NPR. “These are matters for states to decide under their power to promote public health and welfare, a power guaranteed by the 10th Amendment to the Constitution. Despite what he claims, no president has absolute authority over domestic policy, and he certainly has no power to override the type of measures that have been taken across the country that have proved successful in flattening the curve.

The idea of taking legal action against governors COVID-19 lockdown plans, however, was raised by Attorney General William Barr in April, USA TODAY previously reported.

“Were looking carefully at a number of these rules that are being put into place,” Barr said in an interview with conservative talk show host Hugh Hewitt on April 21. “And if we think one goes too far, we initially try to jawbone the governors into rolling them back or adjusting them. And if theyre not and people bring lawsuits, we file statement of interest and side with the plaintiffs.”

At a later press briefing, Trump did not dismiss the idea.

Top : President Trumps Biggest Accomplishments Of 2019

Americans saw plenty of Washington at its worst this year, with one party in Congress obsessed with a partisan impeachment stunt and obstructing progress at every turn. But despite getting no help from the far left, America today is soaring to new heights. Trumps Biggest Accomplishments President Trumps accomplishments

Its tough to pick only 10 accomplishments from such an extraordinary year, but here are just a few of the biggest things President Donald J. Trump has gotten done for the American people in 2019:

  • The Trump Boom is going strong. The unemployment rate recently hit its lowest mark in 50 years. All told, since President Trumps election, our economy has added more than 7 million jobsover half a million in manufacturing alone.
  • The stock market keeps breaking records: The Dow Jones and S& P 500 hit record closes again on Friday.

  • Failure: Family Separations And The Deaths Of Migrant Children

    Accomplishments Of President Trump

Trump in 2016 campaigned on reducing undocumented immigration, pledging to take a hardline approach.

He made good on that promise when coming into office, but was accused of human-rights abuses and violating international law by the UN.

The Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” policy on illegal border crossings led to the separations of at least 5,500 families and saw children placed in cages.

The president of the American Academy of Pediatrics at the time described the practice as “nothing less than government-sanctioned child abuse.”

After widespread backlash, Trump issued an executive order in June 2018 to halt the family separations, and a federal judge ordered the Trump administration to reunite all those it had separated. But the fallout from the separations is ongoing.

Trump falsely blamed his predecessor, former President Barack Obama, for the policy that saw thousands of children separated from their parents.

At least six migrant children died in US custody, leading to widespread condemnation of conditions in detention facilities.

The UN human-rights chief, Michelle Bachelet, in July 2019 said she was “shocked” by the US government’s treatment of migrant children and the conditions they faced in detention facilities after crossing the border from Mexico.

Mr. Trump, who campaigned in 2016 on eliminating or drastically reducing the size of the Department of Education, tried to slash federal funding for public schools and dramatically increase funding for school choice and voucher programs. Congress overrode him. The $42 million is a small amount compared to the $400 million his administration initially proposed to expand charter schools and vouchers for private and religious schools.

Letters: Trump Has Strong Accomplishments Trump’s Actions Are Wrong On Pandemic

President Trump is running on a

    list of impressive accomplishments

President Donald Trump has presided over a booming economy that includes historically low unemployment rates for Blacks, Hispanic and Asian Americans. He has stood up to China and North Korea while overseeing a significant peace settlement in the Middle East.

While Joe Biden helped write and voted for the 1994 crime bill that caused mass incarcerations, Trump signed the bipartisan First Step Act that promotes badly needed prison reforms through alternative sentencing guidelines and programs to lower recidivism.

    More respect needed for presidency,

there is too much envy, division

Where does all the hate come from that permeates our streets?

Our Congress has projected its hate and contempt for this president from the first day he was put in office. It is shameful that they could not even respect the office itself no matter who sits in the chair.

Had they worked with him instead of fighting every day, we might have had an even greater country than the one this president has given to the people.

The virus came to challenge us all, but we will overcome this just like we overcome other viruses. Bring God back into your homes, churches and schools and see what this country can and will be again.

We are better than this. And the media doesn’t help.

Science and planning are being lost

Vote as if your life depended upon it, because it just may.
