Is Trump’s Coming To Michigan Controversial
It is. And here’s why: Trump’s endorsement of DePerno and Karamo comes ahead of an April 23 endorsement convention where the state Republican Party delegates will begin formally nominating candidates for down-ballot races, including attorney general and secretary of state. The nominees for other races, like governor or congressional seats, will be selected by the voters themselves during the Aug. 2 primary. And it’s not only Trump who has made endorsements, but also state party co-chair Meshawn Maddock, a staunch Trump supporter who is expected to be at the rally.
Taken together, that has quite a few Republicans either privately or publicly upset. Party leaders and officials typically don’t make endorsements ahead of primaries or the party’s selection, not wanting to make it seem as though they are trying to dictate an outcome. In the case of DePerno and Karamo, some Republicans are making the case that their pro-Trump stances are extreme to a point where more mainstream voters will reject them. That could keep the party from winning in what is otherwise expected to be a favorable year.
Former President Donald Trump Is Back In Michigan For Rally
When then-President Donald Trump last visited Michigan in the wee hours of Election Day 2020, he told a crowd in Grand Rapids, in what would be his last speech of the campaign, that theyd better get out and vote for him or, Ill be so angry, Ill never come back.
He apparently got over it.
Bringing with him 17 months worth of unproven claims of vote rigging, lies about a stolen election and recriminations for Republican supporters he has deemed insufficiently loyal for refusing to overturn the election results, Trump is back in Michigan on Saturday evening. He will be headlining a rally that itself could serve to further split the state GOP and advance candidates who, while loyal to him, may not be best poised to sway voters in November.
For as much as he divides the public, however, Trump remains the Republicans most visible figure and, for now at least, the person most likely to capture their nomination for president in 2024, a mantle he has suggested he may be willing to take up again. And with President Joe Bidens approval numbers hurt by high inflation and gas prices, a surge in migrant crossings at the southern border and ongoing uncertainty about the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, Trumps visit comes at an opportune time.
Or maybe they will be front and center as well. With Trump, its hard to know in advance what he may end up talking about.
Heres what else to know about Saturdays rally:
Pm: Trump Fans Hit Merchandise Tables Again On Way Out
When former President Donald Trump left the stage and people began streaming out of the arena in Prescott Valley, the most entrepreneurial merchandise vendors were ready and waiting for round two of their days sales.
Tables full of shirts, hats and flags lined one of the exits, lit up by phone flashlights as people bought their final souvenirs from the day as they made their way to the parking lot.
Justin Cole walked up to a merchandise table at a Trump rally in 2017 wanting to get involved and has been traveling with Trump and selling merchandise ever since.
Hes just one of a handful of tables hoping to capitalize on the last minutes of todays rally. In his industry, you never quite know how business will go in any given day.
You just never know but we really believe in it so we kind of just keep going with it, Cole said.

Former President Donald Trump leveled a fusillade of criticism at Democratic incumbent Sen. Mark Kelly as he rallied support for Blake Masters, his endorsed candidate in Arizonas five-way Aug. 2 Republican Senate primary election.

I know hes married to a very nice woman, but hes just not doing the job and Arizona is suffering because of it, so remember that. Remember that, Trump said. This November, were going to vote Mark Kelly out of office and were going to replace him with America First champion Blake Masters.
Masters is a real titan of the business and technology world, Trump said. He gets it.
And Masters will bring exactly the kind of toughness, courage and intellectual firepower we need in the Senate to take our country to the next level, he said.

There also is an organization calling itself Right Side Broadcasting Network that has been livestreaming Trump events on YouTube and is expected to do so again. You Might Not Get To See The President
Requesting tickets to a Trump rally is easy, but just having tickets doesnt guarantee entrance to the event. The Trump campaign often gives away more tickets than there are seats in the venue.
In Montana, some families told the Great Falls Tribune that theyd driven hours with the hope of seeing the president at a July 5 MAGA rally only to be turned away at the door when the arena where Trump was speaking reached capacity. The Four Seasons Arena has a capacity of 6,600. A similar thing happened at a rally in West Virginia in August.
Implores Marylanders To Get Rid Of The Stench Of Larry Hogan
On Saturday, Dan Cox and Gordana Schifanelli held a campaign rally at Hampsteads Leaping Greenly Farm in Carroll County, featuring an array of recognizable speakers keynoted by Pennsylvanias Republican gubernatorial primary winner Doug Mastriano, that was well attended by the public and other local office seekers alike.
Despite a steady level of excitement throughout the event, the surprise highlight undoubtedly came when former President Donald Trump was bridged in via phone over loud speaker to reaffirm his endorsement of Coxs candidacy and to again lambast Larry Hogan and his hopeful successor Kelly Shulz.
Amidst waning chants of Trump! Trump! Trump! the former President started his few minute speech by praising what sounded like a great crowd and thanking them for their support of Cox and his running mate Shiffanelli a last name he pronounced with an emphasis and dialect that is so uniquely his.
He referred to Cox as a respected lawyer and successful businessman who is tough and smart and who is MAGA all the way, unlike Coxs competitor Shulz who, along with Hogan, is bad news and who has done a lousy job.
The former President praised Cox for standing up to Hogan as a State Delegate, presumably a reference to Coxs attempt to impeach the sitting governor for his heavy handed and rights infringing approach to managing the pandemic.
Indeed, the sweltering heat did little to suppress the excitement pent up in the attending supporters.

How Big A Crowd Is Expected
This is an often tricky issue with Trump, who has a habit of inflating his crowd sizes. In this case, township officials say they expect somewhere between 8,000 and 10,000 people.
It’s anyone’s guess if that number will be low or high. But it does have some fire officials in Washington Township concerned. For one thing, they say the rally is outside the approved use of the Michigan Stars Sports Center space, and it’s possible the number of attendees could be well above the site’s safe occupancy limit. There also are questions about whether there is enough parking and what the effect of traffic will be on local roads.
Trump Finally Filled Wyoming Arena At Rally Against Liz Cheney: Report
CORRECTION: This story originally noted that Trump failed to fill the stadium today in Wyoming. However, by the time the former president spoke, the stadium was filled, as reporter Bryan Schott notes here. Raw Story regrets the error.
Less than one week after Donald Trump’s grudgefest in Georgia was rejected by Republican voters, the former president traveled to Casper, Wyoming as he seeks to oust Rep. Liz Cheney for objecting to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
The rally was attended by Reps. Andy Biggs , Lauren Boebert , Kat Cammack , and Matt Gaetz .
House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy did not attend, but sent a video message that was booed by Trump’s MAGA base.
Bryan Schott, a reporter for the Salt Lake Tribune, posted a picture from the arena 30 minutes before the program was scheduled to begin.

Governor’s Race Looms Over Rally
Gov. Mike DeWine did not attend Trump’s rally and recently tested positive for COVID-19, but his campaign staff greeted people at the fairgrounds earlier Saturday. Attendees cast the governor as a “Republican in name only” and criticized his response to the pandemic.
“As long as they get DeWine out, I’m good with it,” Dayton resident Steve Callahan said of the race.
DeWine’s opponents are hoping to capitalize on that frustration. Former U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci was at the rally, and Canal Winchester farmer Joe Blystone peppered the fairgrounds with campaign signs.
Former President Trump Speaks At Rally For Kari Lake Others In Prescott Valley
PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ Thousands of people packed an arena in northern Arizona on Friday for a rally, including former president Donald Trump and his allies. The political event started around 4:30 p.m., and several Arizona names in the MAGA part of the Republican Party spoke, including Arizona GOP Party chairwoman Kelli Ward and Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb. The Save America PAC put on the rally at Findlay Toyota Center. Trump hit the stage around 8 p.m., nearly an hour after he was supposed to speak. He spoke about his candidates, Kari Lake for governor, Blake Masters for Senate, Secretary of State candidate Mark Finchem and more.
After harshly criticizing the Biden Administration over inflation and the border, Trump took aim at Gov. Doug Ducey. Hes all talk and no action and youll see what can happen when Kari Lake becomes your governor. Itll be like day and night, Trump said. The crowd then started chanting, Kari! Kari! Kari! Lake eventually joined Trump on stage, greeted by a hug. She will do whatever it takes to protect the people of Arizona and shes the only person strong enough to get it done, Trump said.
Lake then took the microphone and praised Trump on how he handles a campaign and politics. President Trump taught us how to fight and I took a few notes. Thats why I go after the fake news because he showed us how to do it. He gave us the gameplan and he showed us exactly how to stand up and fight. Republicans need to fight back, said Lake.
