Will Trump Close The Southern Border

Donald Trump Threatens To Close The Border And Cut Off Millions In Aid | Velshi & Ruhle | MSNBC

In the article, “Trump renews threat to close Mexican Border, send more troops” written by Makini Brice, Trump threatens to close the southern border and send in more military personnel to secure the border against the new caravan of migrants arriving at the southern border. Trump states that ” A very big Caravan of over 20,000 people started up through Mexico” . This is just another excuse for the president to shut the border. Even though President Trump sends in the military to the southern border, by law the military are not allowed to enforce immigration laws under the Posse Comitatus Act. Brice also gives information that a U.S Soldier had a gun confiscated by Mexican military personnel. This also causes concern for all Americans since this is causing a larger conflict with Mexico. Tensions between the U.S and Mexico could cause trade also to seize because Mexico is one of our largest trading partners.

Trump Appears More Concerned With Closing Borders Than Testing For Coronavirus

During his first address to the nation on the global coronavirus pandemic, President Donald Trump characterized COVID-19 as a foreign virus while touting his decision to institute travel restrictions with China and announcing plans to close the U.S. to visitors from most of Europe.

Meanwhile, he has been raked by critics and the markets for failing to thoroughly explain how the government plans to address the lack of tests and spiking number of cases across the U.S. His administration has for weeks downplayed the threat of the virus, even as experts warned it is on track to spread exponentially.

Trump clearly sees the novel coronavirus as just another foreign invader to keep out a viewpoint reflected both in his policy proposals and the way he and his administration talk about the virus. This approach is in line with his overarching political strategy of exploiting Americans fears to justify racist, nativist policies.

This is the most aggressive and comprehensive effort to confront a foreign virus in modern history, Trump said Wednesday about his administrations response while blaming the European Union for failing to take steps to prevent contagion. Several European countries have fewer cases of coronavirus per capita than the U.S.

Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security has sought to use coronavirus as justification for restricting migration at the southern border.

Donald Trump: We Will Close The Border Permanently If Need Be

President Donald Trump has called on Mexico to deport asylum seekers “back to their countries” and threatened to close the southern border “permanently,” after U.S. Border Patrol agents fired tear gas at hundreds of migrants who rushed the border on Sunday.

“Mexico should move the flag-waving Migrants, many of whom are stone cold criminals, back to their countries,” Trump said in a tweet early Monday morning.

“Do it by plane, do it by bus, do it any way you want, but they are NOT coming into the U.S.A.,” the president, who spent his Thanksgiving break with his family at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, said. “We will close the Border permanently if need be.”

“Congress, fund the WALL!” he added, once again demanding support for his long-promised border wall.

The U.S. leader’s comments come as his administration faces backlash over U.S. Border Patrol agents’ use of tear gas against Central American migrants on Sunday.

Mexico should move the flag waving Migrants, many of whom are stone cold criminals, back to their countries. Do it by plane, do it by bus, do it anyway you want, but they are NOT coming into the U.S.A. We will close the Border permanently if need be. Congress, fund the WALL!

Customs and Border Protection has defended its decision to use the substance, claiming that some of the migrants had thrown projectiles across the border, hitting several agents.

Doctors Will Be Allowed To Practice Across State Borders

Medical professionals can now practice across state lines in order to help hospitals in hotspots of transmission to increase their capacity, Trump announced.

A recent analysis by researchers at the Imperial College London found that even strict efforts to delay the spread of the virus including case isolation, home quarantine, and social distancing would still result in an 8-fold higher peak demand on critical care beds over and above the available surge capacity in … the US.

The government has already asked Americans to delay elective medical procedures to free up health care resources, including personnel and equipment, and to protect patients from contracting the virus in medical facilities.

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, the US was already facing an imminent shortage of doctors: The Association of American Medical Colleges estimates that it could reach 46,900 to 121,900 physicians by 2032. Rural areas, where doctors are already in short supply, could be particularly hard hit.

Troops Requested For Northern Border

Trump

Specifically, CBP had requested 1,000 personnel on the northern border and 540 personnel on the southern border. The 540 personnel would be added to the 5,200 troops already present at the U.S.-Mexico border that followed President Donald Trumps over undocumented immigration in early 2019.

The leaked memo referred to illegal entries having the potential to spread infectious disease. The memo did not clearly explain how these troops were going to be used only that they will not conduct civilian law enforcement activities. The conditions of the use of force were also unclear.

Canada and the United States had already agreed to close their land border to non-essential travel as a way to stop the spread of COVID-19. That decision did not mean the border would be entirely closed the flow of goods by land was vital for both economies and would not be stopped. Cross-border commutes related to grocery shopping, studies and work were still allowed as well.

Canadas diplomatic response to the American attempt to militarize its northern border, generally polite but at times tense, is not surprising given the asymmetrical Canada-U.S. relationship.

Claim: Trump Acted At The Same Time A Top Aide Wrote Memos Warning Of The Virus Half True

Asked about pandemic memos circulated by top trade adviser Peter Navarro warning of the effects the coronavirus could have, Trump argued that he acted at the same time, shuttering the U.S. to China and eventually Europe.

That was about the same time that I closed it down, he said on April 8, referring to travel restrictions he put in place to slow the spread of coronavirus. “We closed it down to all of China, we closed it down to all of Europe, those were big moves.”

Trump’s claims here are half true. Navarros warnings were reportedly circulated in late January and Trumps travel ban on China was ordered January 31st so he’s right on the timing. But Trump’s other statement, that he shut down “all” travel from China and Europe, is false.

He closed the border to most foreigners travel from China to the U.S. exempting U.S. citizens and some others but he did not shut down the borders completely. On March 11, Trump ordered the border closed to foreigners coming to the U.S. from 26 European states, but not all of Europe.

Food And Drug Administration

From the beginning of this public health emergency, FDA has taken an active leadership role in the all-of-government response to the COVID-19 pandemic, inspired by the resiliency of the American people and our great innovators. FDA stood up an internal cross-agency group that continues to ensure we are doing everything possible to protect the American public, helps ensure the safety and quality of FDA-regulated products, and provides the industries we regulate the tools and flexibility to do the same. Work has focused on facilitating the development and availability of medical countermeasures to diagnose, treat, and prevent COVID-19, surveilling the medical product and food supply chains for potential shortages or disruptions and helping to mitigate such impacts, as necessary to protect the health. This work is a key component of the federal governments efforts to address this pandemic and reopen the economy so Americans can get back to work and school.

Diagnostic Testing

Serological Testing

In addition, FDA issued an umbrella EUA for certain antibody tests that undergo a validation evaluation at NCI or another government agency designated by FDA. Tests that FDA confirms meet the performance and labeling criteria, among other conditions outlined in the umbrella EUA, can be authorized under this umbrella EUA, streamlining the submission and review of these important tests.

Returning To The Public Eye Trump Will Head To Us

The former US president has laid low since leaving office but will resume travel and rallies later in June.

Former President Donald Trump has said he would visit the US-Mexico border later this month with Texas Governor Greg Abbott after both complained about a rise in migrants crossing into the United States.

Trump, Abbott and other Republicans have criticised Democratic President Joe Biden for rolling back Trump immigration restrictions as the number of migrants arriving at the border has reached the highest monthly levels in 20 years.

The Biden Administration inherited from me the strongest, safest, and most secure border in U.S history and in mere weeks they turned it into the single worst border crisis in U.S history, Trump said in a statement on Tuesday, announcing he had accepted an invitation from Abbott to visit the border on June 30.

We went from having border security that was the envy of the world to a lawless border that is now pitied around the world, he added.

Republicans have been extremely critical of the Biden administrations handling of the border and slammed Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who has been tasked with dealing with the immigration crisis, for not yet having visited the border since taking office in January.

Trump did not say where along the 2,000km border he would be visiting. Abbotts office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Caravan Chaos: Federal Judge Blocks Trumps Asylum Ban At Southern Border

Trump threatens to close border with Mexico next week | Al Jazeera English

A federal judge in San Francisco abruptly blocked the Trump administrations crackdown on asylum seekers entering the country through the United States southern border Monday night setting the stage for a potential legal battle that could reach the Supreme Court.

According to Fox News, U.S. District Judge Jon S. Tigar, who was nominated by President Obama in 2012 to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, issued a temporary restraining order after hearing arguments in San Francisco.

Individuals are entitled to asylum if they cross between ports of entry. It couldnt be clearer, said one attorney opposed to the Trump administrations revised guidelines.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed this week that 70,000 people per year apply for asylum at ports of entry across the United States including border crossings in Arizona, California, and Texas.

The Us Is Sending Hospital Ships To Nyc

Trump said he has sent two hospital ships with capacity for 1,000 patients, including operating rooms, to New York at the request of Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The state has been particularly hard hit by the virus, with 2,382 cases as of March 18. In New York City alone, 1,339 people have tested positive, and a portion of the city of New Rochelle is also under lockdown.

Cuomo had previously ordered the National Guard and building developers to transform existing spaces, including dormitories and former nursing homes, into temporary hospitals in order to add an estimated 9,000 beds to the 53,000 that are already available. Cuomo has also been pressing the Trump administration to order the Army Corps of Engineers and the US military to create temporary hospitals in the state.

As Trump Threatens To Close Border Experts Warn Of Billions In Economic Damage

  • Print

When the Trump administration abruptly shuttered the San Ysidro border crossing for five hours on the Sunday after Thanksgiving following a skirmish with a group of migrants, holiday traffic snarled for hours south of San Diego.

Businesses on the U.S. side of the border lost about $5.3 million in sales, local officials said. Tens of thousands of people were temporarily stuck on both sides of the border, creating chaos in nearby areas.

President Trump now is threatening to exponentially increase the scale of that disruption, vowing to indefinitely close the U.S. border with Mexico to show his resolve and his pique as tens of thousands of Central American migrants continue to jam legal entry points and unguarded remote areas.

Trumps acting chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, said Sunday that the president, who has threatened to close the border before, is not bluffing. But White House officials declined to provide details of what, if anything, Trump intends to do.

It is probably impossible to close the entire 2,000-mile-long border. But Trump could shut some or all of the 47 official entry ports, which process more than 1 million people and about $1.7 billion in commerce every day.

Even a limited and temporary closure would be felt from California to Texas. A longer-term closure would devastate local businesses and ripple through regional supply chains, directly affecting the farms and automobile manufacturers whose employees form the core of Trumps political base.

Trump Is Invoking The Defense Production Act To Produce Key Medical Supplies

Trump said that he is invoking the Defense Production Act, a wartime law that would allow the government to harness the private sector to produce medical equipment necessary to combat the spread of coronavirus.

The government will be targeting production of medical masks, including N-95 masks, that can help protect health personnel from contracting the virus, as well as ventilators to help patients with acute symptoms breathe. The government has ordered millions of masks, but the US will need millions more, Trump said.

The US currently has more than 10,000 ventilators, and the Pentagon has offered up some of their own, but the administration anticipates needing thousands more.

We have tremendous numbers of ventilators, but theres never been an instance like this where no matter what you have, its never enough, he said. This is a very unforeseen thing.
