Cnn And Other News Outlets Ask Court To Unseal Entire Court Record Related To Mar

The second coming of Donald Trump: Can he become president again? | 60 Minutes Australia

CNN, joined by the Washington Post, NBC News and Scripps, asked a court on Thursday to unseal documents connected to the FBI search of former President Trumps Florida residence this week including documents not covered by the Justice Departments own bid to unseal a selection of the warrant materials.

Specifically, CNN and the other outlets are asking for the US District Court in the Southern District of Florida to unseal the entire record filed with the court, including all probable cause affidavits filed in support of the search warrant.

The request was filed after the Justice Department submitted its own request with the federal court to unseal certain warrant materials. In remarks announcing the request, Attorney General Merrick Garland said the Justice Department is seeking the release of the search warrant and property receipt from the FBIs search.

But there are other documents that prosecutors file with federal courts when seeking search warrant, including affidavits from investigators laying out why they believe that there is probable cause that a crime was committed and that evidence of that crime existed in recent days at the site where the search was sought.

Garland said Thursday that he would not be providing further details as to the basis of the search at this time. The department also declined to comment on why it is not seeking to unseal the affidavits.

“As we can all relate to, everyone ends up having to bring home their work from time to time. American presidents are no different,” said the statement from Trump’s office on Friday night read out on Fox News.

Heres How Democrats Can Stop Trump From Running For President In 2024

    • Democratic lawmakers could use the 14th Amendment to stop Trump from running for president
    • To use the 14th Amendment, the Democratic Party could file a lawsuit against Trump
    • Trump has previously been impeached for inciting the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol

Democratic lawmakers could use the 14th Amendment to keep former president Donald Trump from running for the presidency again in the 2024 election, according to an opinion piece.

Section 3 of the 14th Amendment states that a person is disqualified from being president, vice-president, senator or representative in Congress if they participated in an insurrection or rebellion or aided such acts against the United States while holding federal office.

To use the 14th Amendment, the Democratic Party could file a lawsuit against Trump in federal court, seeking a ruling that Trump participated in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection and an order that would disqualify him from running even as a candidate for the presidency. Trump can then choose to fight the lawsuit or claim the Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination, according to an opinion piece written by Alan B. Morrison and published by The Hill.

Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in January for a charge of incitement of insurrection after a mob of his supporters stormed the Capitol in the final days of his office. The riot led to the death of five people, including a Capitol police officer.

Trump Supporters Protest Fbi Raid On A Bridge Outside Mar

Following the FBI raid of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, several dozen Trump supporters gathered Tuesday on a bridge that extends outside the private estate.

Just a small crowd of supporters had gathered as of 2 p.m. Several people who said they were part of Club 45 an independent Trump-supporting organization said more people would assemble from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., after people were done working for the day. Traffic was becoming more backed up by 3 p.m. By 5 p.m., about 60 people had gathered on the bridge.

Several Trump supporters told Insider they’d heard that Trump would be driving by himself later in the day to get back into Mar-a-Lago and assess his belongings, though a local police officer refuted the rumor to Insider.

In interviews, Trump supporters said they thought the FBI raid was politically motivated and would ultimately grow Trump’s support, but said they weren’t concerned about a civil war. Many repeated false claims that there was widespread fraud during the 2024 election.

Trump Didnt Send Fundraising Email About Nuke Codes

Trump flips out on reporter: ‘I’m the President of the United States!

CLAIM: Image shows a fundraising email by former President Donald Trump sharing nuke codes, following the federal search warrant executed at his Florida residence.

APS ASSESSMENT: Altered photo. Trumps team did not send that email, a representative confirmed. An actual email with the same subject line and banner image contained different body text.

THE FACTS: The former president has indeed been sending fundraising emails to supporters following the FBIs raid on his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

But Trump did not send an email in which he shared nuke codes as part of that fundraising campaign, as social media posts are claiming.

NEW: Donald is fundraising by giving us nuclear codes, read one tweet Friday, shared by thousands. This is a f—— joke to him.

The email has a subject line reading, MAR-A-LAGO: RAIDED, and contains a red banner with Trumps image.

Trumps team did send an email Tuesday with the same subject line and banner, but the body of the email didnt make any reference to nuke codes.

Trump spokeswoman Liz Harrington confirmed in an email to The Associated Press that the version circulating online is fabricated.

This is totally fake, Harrington said. She also forwarded the actual Tuesday email with the same subject line.

The false claim is spreading amid unfolding news about the search at Mar-a-Lago.

    What’s In Trump’s Search Warrant A Grab

The feds knew they had only one chance to search Mar-a-Lago so they carried a big net, Gene Rossi, for three decades a federal prosecutor out of northern Virginia, predicted.

The search warrant that got them inside the waterfront Palm Beach estate of former President Donald Trump may have only been one-page long but the warrant would have authorized FBI agents to seize evidence related to multiple federal statutes, Rossi said.

“I would be shocked,” Rossi told Insider if the search warrant did not list the federal statutes for insurrection, for sedition, and for obstruction three charges Trump could potentially face for alleged involvement in the January 6, 2021 siege on the Capitol.

COP26 has been extended due to a deadlock between countries over fossil fuel emission targets, with the US refusing to budge to help poorer countries fight climate change. President Joe Biden has attempted to sell himself as something of a climate change champion off the back of former President Donald Trump, who famously called climate change a hoax. But his actions at COP26 have shown the limited scope in which the US is willing to help poorer countries meet international climate goals.

Trump Could Release Fbi’s Search Warrant But Is Choosing Not To

Former President Donald Trump has denounced the FBI’s raid on his Mar-a-Lago property as part of a political attack by Democrats and Republicans have demanded more information be released about the circumstances of the raid.

But Trump himself has many of the answers since he has a copy of the search warrant the FBI used to search his Florida home so far, he’s refused to release it.

“No, we’re not releasing a copy of the warrant,” a source close to Trump told NBC News, saying the Department of Justice should do it.

Rudy Giuliani Says Trump Will ‘raid Every One Of Biden’s Houses’ If The Former President Wins The 2024 Presidential Election

Rudy Giuliani earlier this week said former President Donald Trump would “raid” President Joe Biden’s homes if he were to win the White House in 2024, with the ex-personal lawyer to the former president arguing that the FBI’s search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club was a “political act.”

Giuliani, a former New York city mayor and longtime Trump loyalist, told The New York Post that Trump could use the FBI to retaliate against Biden if he were to head back to the Oval Office.

“Breaking into the home of a former president is a political act particularly since you’re breaking precedent. All of a sudden, you’re the first president of the United States who introduced the banana-republic process of prosecuting your predecessor. We’ve avoided it for 240 years. Trump didn’t do it to Hillary. Ford didn’t do it,” he told the newspaper.

“If Trump gets elected, the first thing he’ll do is raid every one of Biden’s houses,” he added.

Garland’s Comments Come After Days Of Silence By The Doj

In his first public statement since federal agents searched former President Donald Trumps home at Mar-a-Lago earlier this week, Attorney General Merrick Garland on Thursday said that the Justice Department had filed in court a request that the search warrant and property receipt from the search be unsealed.

Garland also said he personally approved the decision to seek a search warrant in this matter.

He noted that the department did not comment on the search on the day that it occurred. He pointed out that the search was confirmed by Trump that evening. He said that copies of the warrant and the warrant receipt were provided to the Trump lawyers who were on site during the search.

The Department filed the motion to make public the warrant and receipt in light of the former presidents public confirmation of the search, the surrounding circumstances and the substantial public interest in this matter, Garland said.

The statement comes after days of silence from the Justice Department with regard to the search, as is the departments normal practice for ongoing investigations. Garland stressed that some of the departments work must happen outside of public view.

In filing with the court, the Justice Department said that Trump should have the chance to respond to its request to unseal the documents. Responses to the Justice Departments request are due by August 25, according to the cases docket.

As news broke of the raid Cohen posted a selfie of himself grinning on Twitter, and in a video later posted on TikTok spelled out what he thinks the development could mean for his former boss.

“I can promise you only one thing, that whatever information that it is that they took from him, it’s information he didn’t want exposed,” he said.

Trump Has Until Friday Afternoon To Decide Whether To Fight The Release Of The Mar

Former President Donald Trump could unilaterally release the warrant that federal agents used to search his resort and residence at Mar-a-Lago.

But news reports suggest that Trump and his allies are still trying to decide whether or not to fight the Department of Justice’s motion to unseal the document and the list of goods that were confiscated.

According to The New York Times, Trump’s allies are “discussing the possibility of challenging” the release of the documents and have “contacted outside lawyers” to discuss the matter.

CNN reported Thursday evening that the former president and his team “have not yet reached a decision.” One source told the outlet Trump’s team is considering challenging the motion to unseal the warrant. Both outlets reported that his team is consulting with outside attorneys.

Breitbart reportedly obtained the warrant the FBI used to search Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in south Florida.

Donald Trump signed off on the unsealing of records related to the FBI’s search of Mar-a-Lago, the Justice Department said Friday, setting the stage for the public release of the warrant and list of items seized during the unprecedented search.

In a court filing, the Justice Department told a judge that it conferred with Trump’s lawyers, who raised no objection to unsealing the records.

The Justice Department’s filing came as multiple news organizations reported citing a copy of the search warrant that the FBI raid related to possible violations of the Espionage Act and laws governing the mishandling of government documents, including classified materials.

Trump has been calling for the release of the records since the search, though he could have released the copies he had.
