Republicans Take Steps To Hide Discouraging Polls About Trump
Throughout his presidency, Donald Trump made up polling data that purportedly showed his widespread popularity. Independent surveys pointed in very different directions, but the Republican dismissed those polls by insisting they were part of an elaborate conspiracy against him.
During his semi-retirement, very little has changed. Trump recently appeared on Dan Bongino’s show, and when asked about the possibility of a third presidential campaign in 2024, the Republican said, “I am giving it the most serious consideration as you can imagine and based on every poll that I’m seeing and everything else. It’s something that is, you know, very positive, nobody’s seen anything more positive.”
At face value, it stood to reason that some polls might actually show Trump’s standing improving now that he’s no longer in office. In fact, that would be consistent with recent history: former presidents routinely see their support climb after they leave they White House.
But with Trump, it’s a bit more complicated.
First, his boasts notwithstanding, the former president appears to have lost support in recent months. In NBC News polling, Trump’s national favorability rating stood at 43% shortly before Election Day. By January, as he prepared to exit the White House, that total had dipped to 40%, and as of two weeks ago, the Republican’s favorability rating had slipped further to just 32%.
As a rule, willful ignorance is an unwise strategy for a political party.
Trump Super Pac Launches Multi
WASHINGTON President Trump’s top allied super PAC, America First Action, has begun airing three new ads in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania as part of a $7.5 million ad campaign aimed at chipping away at former Vice President Joe Biden in key swing states.
The group hits Biden in Michigan and Wisconsin on the loss of manufacturing jobs to China.
And the Pennsylvania ad warns Biden’s climate plan would cost fossil fuel jobs in the state.
The super PAC is spending $1.75 million in Michigan’s Traverse City, Flint and Grand Rapids markets $2.25 million in Wisconsin’s Wausau, La Crosse/Green Bay and Milwaukee markets and $3.5 million in Pennsylvania’s Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Johnstown, Erie and Wilkes-Barre markets. Those spending figures also include digital and mail ads, as well as television advertising, from Thursday through the July 4th weekend.
Many of those markets cover places Trump won significantly in 2016, and will need to perform well in again to hold the pivotal states in 2020. The Trump campaign just finished a $5 million TV buy that flooded the airwaves in many of those markets too.
Republicans have significantly outspent Democrats over the past week in the presidential race $5.3 million to $1.9 million on TV and radio between May 27 and June 3, according to Advertising Analytics. With the Biden campaign dark on the airwaves, the top Democratic spender over that span has been the pro-Biden Priorities USA super PAC.
Historically Unpopular: Donald Trump Is The Most Disliked President In Modern History
Donald Trump is leaving office with the lowest approval rating of not just his presidency. In his latest and last poll from Gallup, only 34% of Americans approve of Trumps job performance, a personal low for him and nearly the lowest approval rating for any exiting president since the inception of polling.
While technically not the lowest-rated exiting president, Trump hit some other milestones of unpopularity that I think definitely qualify him for the title of most disliked.
Almost every president sees a boost to their approval rating during their lame duck periodthe time after losing an election and the next presidents inaugurationbut not Trump! His rating fell by an incredible 12 points. That creates a fitting sort of bookend for his time in office, actually, since he also never got the traditional honeymoon period of a ratings boost following his 2016 election.
Trump is also the only modern president to leave office without ever having hit 50% job approval.
Gallups final polling for the Trump presidency is out. His final approval rating was 34%.
He leaves the only president never to hit 50% job approval at any point in his presidency and is the least popular president in Gallups polling history

Lindsey Graham Calls Trump ‘unpopular’ As He Touts Republican Win In Virginia
Senator Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, described former President Donald Trump as “unpopular” while commenting on Republican Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin‘s win in Virginia.
Youngkin, a businessman who had never run for elected office before, defeated former Democratic Governor Terry McAuliffethis week in Virginia, a state that President Joe Biden won by just over 10 points a year ago. While Trump endorsed Youngkin, the GOP governor-elect distanced himself from the former president throughout his campaign in the state.
Graham, a close Trump ally, lauded Trump for understanding the dynamics of the race in Virginia in published Thursday.
“Trump played it pretty well, not to give any more air to the Trump card,” the Republican senator said. “Being associated with an unpopular politician is an oft-used strategy. However, if that’s all you got, you’re not going very far.”
Democrats in Virginia attempted to make the race a referendum on Trump as voters there had rejected the former president in the 2020 election. However, Youngkin was successful in carving out his own political identity without alienating supporters of the former president.
Just ahead of Election Day this week, Trump held a phone-in “tele-rally” for Youngkin in Virginia on Monday. However, the Republican governor-elect did not participate in that event.
Prevailing View Is That Relations With Us Will Stay About The Same
Respondents were asked whether, now that Trump is president, they think relations between their country and the U.S. will improve over the next few years, get worse, or stay about the same.
In many countries, a majority or plurality believes relations will remain about the same. However, in most regions of the world, the share of the public that believes things will worsen outweighs the share that thinks relations will improve by a ratio of two-to-one. While relatively few say they expect relations to improve, more than half hold this view in Russia and Israel.

Trump Approval Rating Drops 10 Points In Gallup Poll
WASHINGTON President Trump’s approval rating dropped 10 points from May to June among adults, according to Gallup’s latest poll.
The new numbers, which show Trump’s approval at 39 percent and disapproval at 57 percent, is one of the largest dips in a single-month period for the president in Gallup’s tracking. In May, Gallup showed Trump’s approval and disapproval ratings nearly even at 49 and 48 percent respectively.
The dip comes as more Americans take issue with the president’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic and protests across the country against police brutality. In the most recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, 80 percent of registered voters said they felt things in the U.S. were “out of control.” Additionally, President Trump continues to struggle in national and state polls against presumptive 2020 Democratic nominee Joe Biden.
A group of Fox News polls released last week show Trump trailing Biden in Arizona, Wisconsin and Ohio. Trump won those states handedly in 2016, and those states could be must-win for the president in November.
The president met with senior advisers and campaign officials last week to discuss concerning internal polling in reliably Republican states like Texas. But on Twitter, Trump has argued that publicly released polling hasn’t been accurate. On Monday Trump announced he hired an outside polling group to analyze polls he “felt were fake.”

For months, as Donald Trump lurched from controversy to controversy, commentators marveled that his voters remained loyal: Trump is impervious to political attack, some said.
Not so. Trump wasnt immune analysts were just failing to look at the whole board.
While Trumps polarizing campaign did not dent his standing with core supporters in the Republican primaries, it took a punishing toll on how the rest of the electorate views him. Trumps image, which was poor even before he ran for president, has plunged to an unequaled low. Among scores of major political figures measured in polls over the last 30 years, Trumps numbers are the worst.
If Trump were to win the GOP presidential nomination with his current public image, he would be the most unpopular nominee in the history of U.S. opinion surveys, veteran Democratic pollster Peter Hart said in an email.
By a lot, he added.
The share of Americans with an unfavorable view of Trump is extraordinary: 68% in the most recent Bloomberg poll, 67% in the CNN/ORC survey, 67% in the ABC/Washington Post poll, 65% from Gallup. The 57% unfavorable rating he received in the most recent CBS/New York Times survey looks mild by comparison.
None of them was as broadly unpopular as Trump is.

In addition to exploring global views of President Trump, this survey also examines attitudes toward three other major leaders on the international stage. The results demonstrate that Trump is not the only world leader in whom global publics lack confidence. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin also get poor marks, though neither is rated as negatively as the U.S. president. Across the 37 nations surveyed, a median of 28% voice confidence in Xi, while 27% feel this way about Putin.
In contrast, 42% express confidence in the long-serving German Chancellor Angela Merkel, while just 31% lack confidence in her. A median of 60% in Europe have confidence in Merkel, and her ratings are particularly strong on the political left, even though she hails from the right-of-center Christian Democratic Union .
Xi and Merkel are somewhat less well-known than Trump and Putin. Roughly one-in-five globally do not offer an opinion about the Chinese and German leaders.
On questions throughout this report, median percentages are reported to help readers see overall patterns. The median is the middle number in a list of figures sorted in ascending or descending order. In a survey of 37 countries, the median result is the 19th on a list of country-level findings ranked in order.

Re Weird Science and Self-Pity From President During Briefing :
How refreshing to hear Donald Trump actually show some understanding, even if only partial. Trying to figure out why nobody likes me, Mr. Trump concluded, it can only be my personality.
Indeed, Mr. Trump, your personality does explain, albeit not completely, your unpopularity. The very fact that you are discussing your unpopularity at a briefing about a catastrophic virus is itself evidence of the narcissism that partly explains that very unpopularity. Yet this horrid behavior is itself insufficient to explain why you are held in such low regard.
A more complete explanation would surely include a consideration of your incompetence your corruption your general failure to grasp how viruses, tariffs, science and a host of other things work your sexism your homophobia your support of white supremacists your contempt for the majority of your constituents and countless other aspects of your failed presidency.
In sum, Mr. Trump, you are unpopular because of your myriad shortcomings as a leader, and not merely because of your personality flaws.
Only One President In Recent History Was More Unpopular On The First Day Of His Reelection Year Than Donald Trump

While hes close, Donald Trump is not the least popular president heading into his reelection year, and the MAGA crowd can thank Gerald Ford for that.
According to FiveThirtyEights presidential tracker, 42.6% of Americans approve of Trumps job performance, which is described as a pretty typical number for the president, although the tangle with Iran could change that.
Heres a look at how other presidents have fared:
As you can see, only Gerald Ford was less popular, with a 39.3% approval rating on Jan 1, 1976, and he lost to Jimmy Carter later that year. But those numbers, as the chart shows, tend to shift over the year, so Trumps rating, which has stubbornly stuck around where it is now, could take a turn.
So Trumps low approval ratings as of January arent necessarily a problem for him in November, FiveThirtyEights Nathaniel Rakich said.
Still, he added, with the country so polarized, it appears to be trickier than in the past convincing voters from the other side of the aisle to jump ship.
Take Barack Obama, who had a similarly intractable approval rating over the course of his presidency, Rakich explained. From Jan. 1 to Nov. 6, 2012 the year of his reelection campaign his numbers ticked up by only 3.8 points. What this means in practical terms is that its increasingly difficult for presidents to win over new supporters.
All those lower than 43.6% have lost.
