Bowers Said He Refused Giuliani’s Request To Hold A Hearing On Fraud Claims: ‘i Didn’t Want To Be Used As A Pawn’
Arizona’s Republican House Speaker said he “refused” a request by Giuliani to hold an official committee hearing at the Arizona capitol to hear claims of fraud.
“I did not feel that the evidence, granted in its absence, merited a hearing, and I didn’t want to be used as a pawn,” Bowers said.
The request came during a phone call with Giuliani and Trump. Bowers said he asked why they wanted a hearing, and was told that they wanted the chance to remove the electors for Biden and replace them.
“That’s totally new to me, I’ve never heard of any such thing,” Bowers said he replied. “I said, ‘Look, you’re asking me to do something that is counter to my oath when I swore to the Constitution to uphold it … this is totally foreign as an idea or a theory to me, and I would never do anything of such magnitude without deep consultation with qualified attorneys.'”
“You’re asking me to do something against my oath, and I will not break my oath,” Bowers recalled saying.

Trump Lawyer Eastman Urged Bowers To Decertify Election Results ‘and Let The Courts Sort It Out’
Bowers said that John Eastman, a lawyer for Trump, had asked him in a phone call to hold a vote to decertify Arizona’s electors.
“Just do it and let the courts sort it out,” Eastman said in that call, Bowers told the committee.
Bowers said he replied: “You’re asking me to do something that’s never been done in history the history of the United States and I’m going to put my state through that without sufficient proof? And that’s going to be good enough with me?”
Bowers declined, and that was the end of the call, he testified.

Although the election was held on Tuesday, it was not until that Friday that news outlets were comfortable in reporting that Biden had won both the popular vote and the majority of the Electoral College.

Donald Trump is back online but not yet back on social media.
The former president launched an official website, 45office.com, for his post-presidency office on Monday. The website allows the public to submit messages, scheduling requests and press inquiries to Trump and former first lady Melania Trump.
Trump also says hell be back on social media, this time on his own platform, in the next few months.
Trump has been off Twitter since January, when the social media giant suspended his account after his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in a riot that resulted in five deaths. His Facebook and Instagram accounts were also suspended.
Also on Monday, Trump blasted two of his most prominent coronavirus advisers. He called Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Deborah Birx two self-promoters trying to reinvent history.
In a statement Monday night, Trump called Fauci the king of flip-flops and accused Fauci of moving the goalposts to make himself look as good as possible. Fauci is the chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden.
Birx managed the Trump administrations response to the pandemic. In the statement, he called her a proven liar with very little credibility left.

On March 31, the couple paid $9.7 million for a home at 494 Mariner Drive on the Intracoastal Waterway in Admirals Cove. The pair first eyed the north Palm Beach County neighborhood in January, then showed interest in a different home in Palm Beach Gardens before circling back to Admirals Cove, real estate sources said.

Trump Attacked Establishment News Media
It is doubtful that any national candidate since President Nixons vice president, Spiro Agnew, has been more negative toward the established media than Trump.
He frequently called members of the media dishonest and singled them out for ridicule at his rallies. He called the press the enemy of the people and often bypassed the media by refusing to be interviewed. He instead preferred to reach his followers directly through tweets, many of which were outrageous but nonetheless captured public attention and news media coverage.
Trump initially hired a number of people from the alt-right movement, including Steve Bannon of Breitbart News, to be in his inner circle. He and his defenders often accused the media of manufacturing fake news.
Trump has faced criticism for his attacks on the news media. Arizona Senator Jeff Flake gave a speech on the Senate floor on Jan. 17, 2018, in which he said that Trump’s characterization of the press as the enemy of the people echoed the words of Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin.
Arizona Official Rusty Bowers Rebukes Claim He Told Trump The Election Was ‘rigged’
Schiff asked Bowers about a statement from Trump released Tuesday morning, in which the former president claimed that Bowers in a November 2020 conversation “told me that the election was rigged and that I won Arizona.”
Bowers responded, “I did have a conversation with the president. That certainly isn’t it. There are parts of it that are true, but there are parts that are not, sir.”
“Anywhere, anyone, anytime has said that I said that the election was rigged, that would not be true,” Bowers said.
Trump’s claim that Bowers said he won Arizona “is also false,” Bowers told Schiff.

WASHINGTON The Republican National Committee is defending its right to use former President Donald Trumps name in fundraising appeals after he demanded they put an end to the practice.
In a Monday letter to Trump attorney Alex Cannon, RNC chief counsel J. Justin Riemer said the committee has every right to refer to public figures as it engages in core, First Amendment-protected political speech and said it will continue to do so in pursuit of these common goals.
But he maintained that Trump had also reaffirmed to the chair of the RNC, Ronna McDaniel, over the weekend that he approves of the RNCs current use of his name in fundraising and other materials, including for our upcoming donor retreat event at Palm Beach at which we look forward to him participating.
Trump responded to the letter with a statement that put that agreement in doubt. No more money for RINOS, or Republican in name only, he stated. They do nothing but hurt the Republican Party and our great voting base they will never lead us to Greatness. He instead again urged his supporters to send their contributions directly to his own Save America PAC by using his personal website, adding, We will bring it all back stronger than ever before!
Despite the letters, the RNC and others have continued to fundraise off of Trumps name.

‘the Lie Hasn’t Gone Away’ Thompson Warns
Select committee chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., warned that the “Big Lie” that the 2020 election was compromised by widespread fraud “hasn’t gone away” in the wake of the Capitol riot.
“It’s corrupting our democratic institutions. People who believe that lie are now seeking positions of public trust,” Thompson said at the start of the hearing.
The chairman’s opening statement cited a New Mexico county commission that initially refused to certify the results of a primary election weeks earlier. After the courts stepped in, two of three of the commissioners “finally relented,” Thompson said, but one still refused, saying his vote was “based on my gut feeling and my own intuition, and that’s all I need.”
For those officials, “their oath to the people they serve will take a back seat to their commitment to the Big Lie,” Thompson said.
