More Opposition Than Support For Presidents In Recent Midterms

Voters’ use of their midterm vote to communicate their opposition to the sitting president is not unusual, historically. In the past three midterm election years — 2006, 2010 and 2014 — more voters in the final poll before the election said they intended to register their opposition to the president than to send their support for him. In 1998 and 2002, years in which the incumbent president was popular, more voters said they were supporting than opposing the president with their midterm vote.

The six-point deficit for Trump in midterm voting, with more sending a message against than for him, is smaller than the 13-point deficits George W. Bush and Barack Obama had in 2006 and 2014, respectively, but similar to the eight-point deficit for Obama in 2010.

Gallup

If the percentage of voters planning to send either a positive or negative message about Trump with their vote holds at 56% or increases between now and Election Day, it would be the highest to date, eclipsing the 52% for Obama in 2010.

Message To Trump: This Is Why You Lost The Election

There is a compelling scene in the 2014 blockbuster movie “Guardians of the Galaxy” in which the Peter Quill character, played by Chris Pratt, is threatened by the Yondu character, played by Michael Rooker. Yondu looks menacingly into Quill’s eyes and declares, “When I picked you up as a kid, these boys wanted to eat you. … I saved your life.” Quill screams back in his defense, “Oh, will you shut up about that? … Normal people don’t even think about eating someone else, much less that person having to be grateful for it.”

Cut to the 2020 presidential election and, according to a forthcoming book by Wall Street Journal reporter Michael Bender titled “Frankly, We Did Win This Election,” then-President Trump angrily interrupted a policy meeting in the Oval Office to vent about Joe Biden by allegedly asking, “How am I losing in the polls to a mental retard?

That’s how, to begin with. To paraphrase Peter Quill, “Normal people don’t even think about calling someone else a ‘mental retard.'”

Normal people don’t, but egotistical bullies who favor 1970s insults might have no problem spewing out a demeaning label that has made most people cringe for decades now. That’s one of the most important answers to Trump’s reported question: Live by the insult sword, die by the insult sword.

If he indeed asked such a revolting question in the White House, he insulted the presidency and those Americans who believe the office should represent the best in all of us.

Man Accused Of Fake Bomb Threat At Trump Hotel Allegedly Wanted To Send Message To The Former President

Letter to president donald trump

A Michigan man accused of creating a fake bomb threat at the Las Vegas Trump International Hotel said he did it to send former President Donald Trump a clear message, authorities reported.

D’Andre Maurice Lundy, 44, told authorities he wanted to let the former president know he ruined his life, according to the police report.

Lundy was arrested Tuesday after allegedly leaving a suitcase and duffel bag at the hotel service desk, which bomb technicians later determined contained no hazardous materials.

He then reportedly called in two bomb threats, prompting evacuations in the lobby and restaurant of the hotel.

The Michigan man said he placed a rock, a Bible, a $1 bill, and handwritten “scriptures” in the suitcase, according to the police report.

Lundy “believed Trump had messed up his life for the last three years,” the arrest report stated.

He stood before a Las Vegas judge Wednesday on six felony charges, including one that was terror-related.

Lundy’s bail was set at $60,000, and prosecutors were given until Sept. 7 to file a criminal complaint.

The man from Farmingville, Michigan, said he traveled to Las Vegas because he thought a bomb threat would alarm people.

Lundy asked if he could get his items back because if no one was hurt, he thought, there was no crime, police said.

Trump Sends Out Cryptic Three

Former President Donald Trump sent recipients of his email list a cryptic three-word message Wednesday without context, raising questions about its meaning.

“BULLIES NEVER FIGHT!” Trump wrote in his statement, sent via email without explanation.

The message comes following New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s announcement he will resign after a series of sexual harassment allegations were deemed credible in an investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James. Trump, who is often eager to offer his opinions about similar political developments, has yet to comment on the governor’s resignation and has given no indication that the statement is in reference to Cuomo.

Trump has recently sent a series of messages through his Save America PAC, at times bordering on confrontational in expressing his views regarding politicians’ actions and votes.

The former president has been vocal about his anger over the recent infrastructure bill, which was passed with some Republican lawmakers’ support, openly attacking Kentucky Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell for not working with him on his own bill during his term in office.

In the same statement, Trump included congratulations to Tennessee Republican Sen. Bill Hagerty, who took a victory lap Monday after delaying the Democrats’infrastructure bill.

“Congratulations to Senator Bill Hagerty in remaining true to ‘AMERICA FIRST!'” Trump wrote.

Don’t Miss: When Is President Trump Going To Address The Nation

How To Send The President Of The United States An Email

The President of the United States has more than 300 million bosses, essentially every resident in the country, most of whom have an opinion about how to run the nation. This presents a logistical problem for the president and his staff, since an email address exclusively for the president would be flooded with thousands of messages a day. To get around this, the White House website has a page where you can send an email message to the president, and, for all intents and purposes, his staff.

Launch a browser and go to the “White House Contact” page .

Fill in the fields that will identify yourself on the page. Click the “Subject” drop-down menu and choose the topic of your email to the president of the United States.

Write your message to the president in the “Message” field. Be to the point and clear. Also be gracious and polite, even if you do not agree with the president’s policy.

Reread your message and edit it. Make sure there are no spelling or punctuation errors. Click the “Submit” button at the bottom of the page.

Annual Messages To Congress On The State Of The Union

All of our State of the Union Resources

Introductory Essay

State of the Union Messages to the Congress are mandated by Article II, Section 3 of the United States Constitution: “He shall from time to time give to the Congress information of the state of the union, and recommend to their consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient.”

George Washington established the precedent that clarifies the phrase “from time to time.” Since 1790, with occasional exceptions, State of the Union messages have been delivered once annually.

A misconception found even in some academic literature is that the State of the Union is an orally delivered message presented to a joint session of Congress. With a few exceptions, this has been true in the modern era–starting around 1933. However, beginning with Jefferson’s 1st State of the Union and lasting until Taft’s final message , the State of the Union was a written report sent to Congress to coincide with a new Session of Congress..

Federalists Washington and Adams had personally addressed the Congress, but Jefferson was concerned that the practice of appearing before the representatives of the people was too similar to the British monarch’s practice of addressing each new Parliament with a list of policy mandates, rather than “recommendations.”

Putin And Kim: A Meeting Timed To Send A Message To President Trump

Russian President Vladimir Putin, right, and North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un pose for photographers… during their meeting in Vladivostok, Russia, Thursday, April 25, 2019. President Putin opened his talks with Kim, saying that Russia would like to help support efforts to resolve the North Korean nuclear standoff.

ASSOCIATED PRESS

Arriving in the city of Vladivostok for his meeting with the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, the North Korean leader, King Jung Un experienced a short delay. The special train in which he had traveled had to be lined up with the red carpet laid out as part of the welcoming ceremony.

It was not the only slight change to the timings of the visit, but all the others have been judged to be positive. President Putin has gained a reputation for sometimes keeping his guests — even other world leaders — waiting. Not this time. Reuters reported that the Russian leader arrived at the summit venue “around half an hour” before his North Korean guest.

The two leaders then met for two hours, according to the TASS news agency — which also noted that this was “twice as long as the 50 minutes” foreseen in the schedule.

At his first meeting with Mr Kim, in June last year, Mr Trump spoke of a “special bond” — and suggested that there would be “major changes”. The failure of the second meeting means progress remains a distant prospect.

After their talks, the Mr Putin and Mr Kim toasted each other at a reception.

Things To Keep In Mind

Obviously, its not as if youre writing an instant message to one of your friends or your parents. As one would imagine, there are layers of security to go through, not to mention the fact that the Presidents staff have more critical matters to attend to, even if were talking about the PR sector.

Clearly, your message to POTUS needs to be well-constructed, following certain guidelines, and pertaining to an important matter. If you just want to say hi, dont bother sending it, although it wont hurt.

Additionally, youre much more likely to receive the response from a Presidents staff member, rather than from the Big Guy himself, so be sure to manage your expectations.

Naturally, threats , are absolutely out of the question. If the secret service, FBI, or any other government agency gets so much as a whiff of potential danger, theyll find you, arrest you, and most likely charge you. The punishment for threatening the President is severe, to say the least.
