When are the midterm elections? The general election is Nov. 8, but the primary season is already underway. Heres a complete calendar of all the primaries in 2022.

Why are the midterms important? The midterm elections determine control of Congress: The party that has the House or Senate majority gets to organize the chamber and decide what legislation Congress considers.Thirty six governors and thousands of state legislators are also on the ballot. Heres a complete guide to the midterms.

Trump And Pence Host Rival Rallies In Arizona

Donald Trump and his former vice-president, Mike Pence, have held rival rallies for Republican candidates hoping to be Arizona’s state governor.

Mr Trump spoke at an event for Kari Lake, who backs his false claims about election fraud, while Mr Pence supports her opponent, Karrin Taylor Robson.

Mr Trump and Mr Pence could both be running for the US presidency in 2024.

They fell out after Mr Trump accused Mr Pence of failing to block President Joe Biden’s election victory in 2020.

Mr Trump claimed the election was stolen from him and wanted his vice-president to refuse to certify the election result, but Mr Pence decided this would be illegal.

During the Capitol riot on 6 January 2021, when a mob of his supporters stormed Congress in an effort to overturn the result, Mr Trump tweeted that Mr Pence “didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country”.

The riot is currently being investigated by a congressional inquiry, which heard on Thursday night that Mr Trump had watched events unfold on TV at the White House, ignoring his children and aides who “begged him” to rebuke the mob.

At her rally on Friday in the central Arizona town of Prescott Valley, Ms Lake, a former TV news journalist, told supporters that “rigged elections” would no longer be accepted.

He did not criticise Mr Trump or refer to the election controversy during his speech.

Trump Lawyer Says He Will Be Reinstated As President If Gop Win Midterms

Christina Bobb, an attorney who has supported Donald Trump‘s legal challenge to overturn the 2020 election, has suggested a scenario in which the former president could be reinstated after the midterm elections in November.

Bobb told the conservative news outlet the Right Side Broadcasting Network what she thought could happen in states in which there was “evidence that Joe Biden cheated” in the election Trump and his allies have continuously claimed was fraudulent.

“They could withdraw their electors, or they could actually decide to award Trump electors, although I would anticipate they will probably just withdraw the electors,” she said.

“If that happens from three different states, three different resolutions go into Congress,” she said it would then be up to Congress to decide “whether they want to accept the resolutions, whether they want to act on them or not.”

“It is a complex issue that needs to be handled complexly by different state legislators and U.S. Congress, I actually think that it’s designed well, because you don’t want this to be something that you can quickly easily overturn elections,” she said.

“It needs to be something that you need many, many elected officials to take action on,” and the “majority of three different legislators.”

Newsweek has contacted the Trump team for comment.

What We Dont Know

Whether Trump will focus on 2020, 2022 or 2024 at his rallies. Trump has continued to baselessly discount the results of the 2020 election, announcing in a statement earlier this month he plans to refer to the election as the Big Lie. During his CPAC speech in February, he mostly focused on criticizing President Joe Biden, while teasing a 2024 run. Its not clear whether Trump, during these upcoming rallies, will look to help drum up support for Republicans running for office in 2022, or continue to harp on red-meat issues like the 2020 election.

Arizona Standoff: Ducey Vs Trump In Proxy Race For Next Governor

Live: Trump rally in Orlando

During a recent debate, Lake challenged Robson and the other candidates to say the election was stolen. Robson refused to say so, instead remarking that she wouldnt play into Lakes stunt. Lakes campaign later called Robsons answer sickening.

Ducey on Monday morning held a conference call with donors in which he encouraged them to get behind Robson, a person familiar with the call confirmed. The call was first reported by the Washington Post.

While Trump has largely proven successful in endorsing winning House and Senate candidates in the midterms, he has had much more trouble bending gubernatorial primaries to his will. In Georgia, the Trump-endorsed David Perdue suffered a lopsided defeat to Gov. Brian Kemp, who, like Ducey, has been attacked by Trump for refusing to intervene in the 2020 vote count.

In Idaho, Trump-backed Janice McGeachin lost the primary to the incumbent governor, Brad Little.

And Trumps endorsed candidate in Nebraska, wealthy agricultural executive Charles Herbster, fell short to a candidate backed by the incumbent Republican governor, Pete Ricketts.

Like Ducey, Ricketts is a co-chair of the Republican Governors Association, which lent its support to Kemp in the Georgia primary.

Pm: Trump Uses Rally To Bash Biden Ducey

Former President Donald Trump used his 93-minute remarks at his rally in Florence to give a fresh blistering to his usual foils President Joe Biden, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey and the media to the resounding support of the thousands of diehard supporters at Canyon Moon Ranch.

Trump also renewed his grievances and cast his four years in office as a period of unprecedented prosperity and security.

Early in his remarks, which ended at 8:51 p.m., Trump cast Bidens administration as an unfolding disaster and continued his baseless claims of widespread election fraud in 2020.

Biden has utterly humiliated our nation, Trump said, saying that Russia and Chinas leaders no longer respect or fear America.

Trump said the past year under Biden has been a disaster but said there would be a good political end to the catastrophe at the outset of the new year.

The speech was an updated version of Trumps usual America-first rhetoric, long on personal boasts and lacking in subtlety.

The country is being destroyed, he said, after citing rising inflation and the nations disastrous retreat from Afghanistan. Our country is being totally destroyed.

Trump called the COVID-19 response under Biden a disaster, from vaccine mandates to testing shortages.

Im proud I was the anti-mandate president, Trump said. We gave Biden every tool he could want. Hes incapable.

Trump Supporters Rally In Us To Protest Presidents Election Loss

Sporadic street clashes continued in Washington late Saturday between backers and opponents of U.S. President Donald Trumps failed efforts to overturn the U.S. presidential election that was won by his Democratic rival, Joe Biden.

Four people were taken to the hospital with stab wounds and 23 people were arrested, according to the citys police department.

Earlier in the day, thousands of Trumps most ardent supporters gathered, marched and chanted for the president to remain in office. The demonstration, mirrored in several U.S. states where Trumps legal team has unsuccessfully challenged Biden victories, came two days before the U.S. Electoral College meets to formally pick the former senator and vice president as Americas 46th president.

Although the rallies had been promoted for weeks, Trump tweeted Wow! Thousands of people forming in Washington for Stop the Steal. Didnt know about this, but Ill be seeing them! #MAGA.

The U.S. Supreme Court rejected a Texas lawsuit Friday to invalidate the Nov. 3 presidential election results in four battleground states, all but ending Trump’s effort to overturn the election outcome through the courts. More than 50 federal and state court rulings have upheld Bidens victory over Trump.

Few of the protesters obeyed a mandate to wear masks as they marched on city streets closed to traffic by the police.

More Trump Cabinet Members Talking To Jan 6 Committee

More Trump cabinet members are testifying or are in talks with the House select committee investigating the 6 January 2021 attack on the US Capitol.

The committee recently interviewed former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao and is in talks with former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.

Former National Security Adviser Robert OBrien is set to testify before the committee tomorrow, sources tell NBC News.

Both Ms Chao and Ms DeVos resigned the day after the Capitol riot and had discussed invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Mr Trump from power.

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with the panel on Tuesday and reportedly also discussed the 25th Amendment being raised, according to CNN.

The network also reports that the committee is still negotiating terms for a potential interview with former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe.

A total of nine cabinet-level Trump officials are known to have engaged with the committee.

How About A Candidate For Governor

As for Michigan’s marquee race this election cycle the race for governor Trump has yet to endorse a candidate for the Republican nomination to take on Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer this fall.

Politically speaking, that makes some sense, given that no front-runner has emerged. But it’s still entirely possible the former president could make a decision sometime, possibly soon. And whatever his delay, it’s not for lack of suitors.

At least seven of the candidates seeking the Republican nomination were expected to attend Saturdays rally. That includes former Detroit Police Chief James Craig, Oakland County businessman Perry Johnson, Norton Shores businesswoman Tudor Dixon, Ottawa County real estate agent Ryan Kelley, Oakland County pastor Ralph Rebandt, Livingston County evangelist Bob Scott, and Grand Rapids businesswoman Donna Brandenburg.

As for the others, Kalamazoo chiropractor Garrett Soldano is on a spring break vacation with his two young sons and is unable to attend, and Michigan State Police Capt. Mike Brown, of Stevensville, cited a prior campaign commitment. Grand Haven financial adviser Michael Markey said he also would be on a previously scheduled family vacation Saturday.

Also, as of Friday, Oakland County businessman and former auto dealer Kevin Rinke said he hadn’t made a decision as to whether to attend, a spokeswoman said.

He Knows He Lost: Georgia Republican Opposes Trump Before Rally In Perry

President Trump Holds Campaign Rally in Las Vegas, NV

Top voting official Brad Raffensperger dismayed that former president uses lies to fundraise

The top election official in Georgia, a Republican, said Donald Trump unequivocally lost the state in 2020, a day before a rally on Saturday night at which Trump repeated baseless accusations of voter fraud.

On the eve of the rally in Perry, Brad Raffensperger told the Washington Examiner: Hes going to come, and hes going to say what hes going to say, but he knows in his heart that he lost.

Last January, the Georgia secretary of state resisted pressure from Trump to find 11,780 votes and thereby overturn Joe Bidens win in the state.

The phone call in which Trump made that demand is at the heart of an investigation in Fulton county.

On Friday, a Brookings Institution report said Trump faces substantial risk of possible state charges predicated on multiple crimes.

Regardless, the former president traveled to Georgia on Saturday for a rally in part to support Herschel Walker, a controversial former NFL running back running to challenge the Democratic senator Raphael Warnock in midterm elections next year.

Warnock and another Democrat, Jonathan Ossoff, won Georgias two Senate seats in runoffs in January. Observers on both sides of the aisle said Trumps claims of electoral fraud depressed Republican turnout.

Nonetheless, he remains ranged against Trumps lie that Biden won the presidency illegally.

Daily Trail Markers: Trump Campaign Schedules Next Rally To Be Outdoors

President Trump will hold his next campaign rally in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on Saturday, July 11 and this time, the rally will be outdoors. The trip also marks the president’s first campaign rally in a political battleground state and second mega-event since his hiatus from the trail due to the coronavirus pandemic. The president’s reelection campaign announced Sunday that the rally will take place at Portsmouth International Airport at 8 p.m. ET. According to a statement released by the Trump campaign, the outdoor event will feature “ample access to hand sanitizer” and all attendees “will be provided a face mask that they are strongly encouraged to wear.” Trump campaign officials tell CBS News campaign reporter Nicole Sganga that all attendees will also be required to pass a temperature check upon entry. Though the event will technically take place on federal land at the former site of Pease Air Force Base, the Trump campaign has coordinated with Governor Chris Sununu’s office and state officials ahead of Saturday’s event.

Governor’s Race Looms Over Rally

Gov. Mike DeWine did not attend Trump’s rally and recently tested positive for COVID-19, but his campaign staff greeted people at the fairgrounds earlier Saturday. Attendees cast the governor as a “Republican in name only” and criticized his response to the pandemic.

“As long as they get DeWine out, I’m good with it,” Dayton resident Steve Callahan said of the race.

DeWine’s opponents are hoping to capitalize on that frustration. Former U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci was at the rally, and Canal Winchester farmer Joe Blystone peppered the fairgrounds with campaign signs.

Former President Donald Trump marked his return to the nations capital on Tuesday with a speech looking toward 2024 but also relitigating the 2020 election.

Trump for the most part used the keynote address at the America First Policy Institute summit to talk about the November midterms and the next race for the White House at least temporarily setting aside his obsession with the contest he lost.

Im here before you to begin to talk about what we must do to achieve that future when we win a triumphant victory in 2022 and when a Republican president takes back the White House in 2024, which I strongly believe will happen, Trump said, speaking at the Marriott Marquis in the address for his allied think tanks America First Agenda Summit.

But in the 90-minute-plus speech, Trump was unable to resist his pull toward 2020 and the past. He took about a minute toward the end to peddle lies about his defeat almost two years ago.

I ran for president. I won. Then I won a second time did much better the second time, Trump said.

Whats Trump Doing On The Capitol Hill Riot Anniversary

President Trump’s re-election rally in Tulsa

The Capitol Hill riot is another partisan event in American history. While many Republicans denounced the violence, there are still many who justify the action and say that the 2020 election was rigged.

Trump was scheduled to hold a press conference on Jan. 6 at . However, he canceled the event and in his very Trump way blamed the total bias and dishonesty of the January 6t Unselect Committee of Democrats. He also blamed two failed Republicans and the fake news media.
