President Trump urged fellow Republican Brad Raffensperger, the Georgia secretary of state, to find enough votes to overturn his defeat in an extraordinary one-hour phone call Saturday that legal scholars described as a flagrant abuse of power and a potential criminal act.
The Washington Post obtained a recording of the conversation in which Trump alternately berated Raffensperger, tried to flatter him, begged him to act and threatened him with vague criminal consequences if the secretary of state refused to pursue his false claims, at one point warning that Raffensperger was taking a big risk. Second Capitol Police Suit Over The Jan 6 Riots
Smith v. Trump, No. 21-cv-02265
Plaintiff: Seven Capitol Police officers
Case Summary: On Aug. 26, 2021, a second group of Capitol Police officers filed suit over injuries they suffered while defending the Capitol on Jan. 6. The officers allege that Trump and his co-defendantsincluding the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepersconspired to incite a riot and attack the Capitol, leaving the officers physically and emotionally injured.
Like the other Jan. 6 lawsuits against Trump, the complaint asserts that Trump violated the KKK Act by conspiring to instigate the riots. The complaint also alleges that unnamed defendantslisted as John Does who carried out the attackphysically assaulted the officers at Trumps provocation, which could make Trump liable for the officers injuries.
The plaintiffs also add in a unique claim not found in other Jan. 6 lawsuits against Trump: that the defendants violated the DC Bias-Related Crimes Act, a local hate-crime statute. According to the complaint, the defendants were motivated by political bias against the Democratic Party when they instigated and executed the Capitol attack.
Case Status: The officers filed their suit in DC federal court on Aug 26, 2021.
Nevada Early Voting Latino Turnout Controversy
On November 8, 2016, Trump filed a lawsuit claiming early voting polling places in Clark County, Nevada, were kept open too late. These precincts had high turnout of Latino voters. Nevada state law explicitly states that polls are to stay open to accommodate eligible voters in line at closing time. Hillary Clinton campaign advisor Neera Tanden says the Trump campaign is trying to suppress Latino voter turnout. A political analyst from Nevada, Jon Ralston tweeted that the Trump lawsuit is “insane” in a state that clearly allows the polls to remains open until everyone in line has voted. Former Nevada Secretary of StateRoss Miller, posted the statute that states “voting must continue until those voters have voted”. Miller said: “If there are people in line waiting to vote at 7 pm, voting must continue until everyone votes…. We still live in America, right?”

Letitia James Remaining Attorney General In New York Spells Trouble For Donald Trump
New York Attorney General Letitia James announced Thursday that she was suspending her campaign for governor, noting that she had “a number of important investigations and cases” underway that she intends to finish.
The announcement came on the same day news broke that James plans to seek a deposition from Trump as a part of the state’s civil investigation into potential fraud within the Trump Organization.
The request comes as the state investigates whether the company committed financial fraud in property valuations, The Washington Post reported.
James has served as New York’s attorney general since 2019 and is up for reelection in 2022. But her decision to seek another term as the state’s top law enforcement official could have implications for Trump. Since taking office, James has remained focused on the former president and has been a frequent critic. When she initially announced her run for governor in October, she noted that she had sued the Trump administration 76 times.
Her office has not only been involved with a civil investigation of the Trump Organization but has also worked alongside the Manhattan district attorney’s office in a criminal investigation of the business. That investigation led to an indictment of the company’s chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg, over the summer.
Prosecutors Have Not Stopped Investigating The Trump Family’s Business
Behind the scenes, and while proceedings play out in court, prosecutors with Vance’s office have been continuing to work with New York state Attorney General Letitia James’ office on an ongoing probe into Trump’s business dealings in New York. There are plenty of signs that Vance and James are aggressively working on this case, including an unannounced court appearance in August by attorneys for both Weisselberg and the Trump Organization.
“The fact that they are having sealed proceedings is consistent with an ongoing grand jury investigation and suggests the district attorney may be considering further charges or defendants,” said Adam Kaufmann, a former investigations division chief at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office who is currently a partner with the law firm Lewis Baach Kaufmann Middlemiss.

Donald Trump is the first president since the 1990s to face impeachment. But how likely is it and will he be convicted? We asked a politics professor to explain.
Professor Scott Lucas is a professor of International Politics and American Studies at the University of Birmingham.
He told Andrew Castle that Donald Trump is “in some serious trouble”.
Professor Lucas explained: “This started just over a week ago with revelations that in a late July phone call with the Ukraine President , he demanded an investigation into Joe Biden, the former Vice President and currently running for president in 2020.
“We’ve had further revelations over the last week that have been quite dramatic including that White House officials were so disturbed that they tried to withdraw the transcript of the meeting.
“We’ve had the official complaint that details a month-long campaign by Trump and his attorney Rudy Giuliani to force the US government to investigate or dig up political dirt on Biden.
Including the possibility that trump threatened to withhold military aide if Ukraine did not comply.”
He then explained: “We will get an impeachment enquiry that will quite likely lead to the impeachment, in other words, the indictment of Donald Trump for an abuse of power.
It will be up to the Republican majority Senate as to whether they will convict him.”
Profiting From His Own Inauguration
The Attorney General of D.C. has sued Trump over diverting 2017 inauguration funds to Trump properties, alleging that the nonprofit inaugural committee wasted approximately $1 million of charitable funds in overpayment to Trump businesses that charged exorbitant rates, including $175,000 for a ballroom that usually rented for $5,000. The AG alleges the Trump Entities unconscionably benefited from nonprofit funds required to be used for the public good. The suit seeks to have the ill-gotten gains from the Trump properties donated to public-serving nonprofits.

Taxes And Financial Affairs
Mr. Weisselberg was indicted as part of a long-running investigation by Cyrus Vance, the district attorney for Manhattan. At Mr. Weisselbergs arraignment on Thursday afternoon, prosecutors described a 15-year tax fraud scheme and leveled 15 felony counts against him, the Trump Organization and Trump Payroll Corporation.
Mr. Vance has assembled a grand jury and is in the process of determining whether to bring charges against Mr. Trump the body has already questioned a number of the former presidents associates. Prosecutors have seized Mr. Weisselbergs personal tax and financial records, as well as those of his daughter-in-law.
Letitia James, the New York attorney general, also opened a parallel investigation into whether the Trump Organization had manipulated property values to avoid taxes and gain other financial benefits. In May, Ms. Jamess office announced that its investigation, which began as a civil concern, had expanded into the criminal realm and would join Mr. Vances inquiry.
She accepted a settlement in 2001, but after a 2018 Times investigation drew back the curtain on the familys finances, she filed a lawsuit accusing her uncle and his siblings of fraud and breaching fiduciary trust. The suit is still pending.

A new photo seems to suggest the former president has lost weight.
Trump had lost about 15 pounds as of April in part due to a healthier diet and frequent golfing, Business Insider reported.
The change is so apparent that a photo of Trump with Pennsylvania candidate Sean Parnell has some questioning whether or not it’s even real.
Parnell tweeted a of himself with the former president and wrote, “Its time to Win Pennsylvania and Save America! Lets roll.
This photo is fake as Hell lol, wrote in a reply to the September 1 tweet by Parnell.

Donald Trump has been married three times. He was with his first wife, Ivana, from 1977 to 1992. The couple had three children together: Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric. He Might Just Tan The Old
The mystery of Donald Trump’s orange skin could perhaps be solved by the most basic explanation of all: sunshine. Makeup artist Jason Kelly, who’s worked with the Republican party before, told that Trump may be absorbing UVA/UVB rays by soaking up sun on the golf course. “What I’m seeing now, truthfully, is not so much tanning bed, but maybe the sun that he’s getting whenever he goes golfing and that’s been pretty frequently,” Kelly said in 2017. “I think he might be getting a lot of that tan at Mar-a-Lago.”
Whatever the case may be, stories about Trump’s skin just won’t quit. In February 2019, The New York Times actually published a piece titled “In the Pale of Winter, Trump’s Tan Remains a State Secret.” The story talks about “an array of hair sprays on a shelf in his remodeled bathroom,” but insists that visitors have not spotted “an ounce of a self-tanning product.” Others sources insist there is no covert tanning bed “in a hidden nook” at the White House. Administration officials have allegedly credited “good genes” for that year-round glow.

Democratic staff of the Senate Judiciary Committee released a 394-page interim report Thursday that details efforts by the Trump White House to pressure senior officials in the Department of Justice to help promote false claims that the 2020 election was rife with fraud in order to undo results in states where Donald Trump had lost, including Georgia and Pennsylvania.
The report, based on documents and direct testimony from key witnesses, including former Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen, former Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General Richard Donoghue, and Byung Jin BJay Pak, former U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, lays out a relentless, if unsuccessful, campaign between Nov. 3, 2020, and Jan. 6 to wield the imprimatur of the Justice Department in service of Trumps political goals.
A separate 140-page report from the Committees Republican staff said given Trumps prior experiences with the DOJ and the FBI during the Russia investigation, it was reasonable that he maintained substantial skepticism about their ability to investigate election fraud allegations in a thorough and unbiased manner.
What Happened During The Meeting

emails and media reporting, we know that a friend arranged a meeting between Trump Jr. and a Kremlin-connected lawyer named Natalia Veselnitskaya with the promise that she had damaging information on Hillary Clinton. He knew that Veselnitskaya had Russian government connections, but took the meeting anyway, taking along his brother-in-law Jared Kushner and then-Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort. As it turns out, Veselnitskaya had no information on Hillary but rather wanted to discuss a program that allowed Americans to adopt Russian babies. The meeting lasted no more than 30 minutes.

Nyt: Trump Jr Wanted Damaging Info On Clinton
Washington Newly released emails related to Donald Trump Jr.’s June 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer to gather damaging information on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton ratchet up the possible legal liability for the President’s son and other campaign operatives involved with the Russians last year.

Fulton County Georgia Criminal Election Influence Investigation
Prosecuting Office: Fulton County, GA District Attorneys Office.
Case Summary: On Feb. 10, 2021, the Fulton County DAs Office opened an investigation into attempted election interference by former President Trump. The investigation is looking into potential violations of Georgia election laws, including the solicitation of election fraud, the making of false statements to state and local governmental bodies, conspiracy, racketeering, violation of oath of office and any involvement in violence or threats related to the elections administration.
Case Status: On Feb. 10, 2021, the Fulton County DAs Office sent letters to Governor Brian Kemp, Lieutenant Governor Duncan, Secretary of State Raffensperger, and Attorney General Carr informing them of the new investigation and requesting that all records relating to the election, including emails sent by employees from non-government accounts, be preserved.
Fulton County DA Fani Willis also reportedly plans to investigate a phone call between Senator Lindsey Graham and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger where Raffensperger claims Graham asked the Secretary of State if he could throw out legally cast ballots. Grahams spokesperson claims that this is not true and Graham was instead asking about the signature verification process. The DAs office is also reportedly looking into whether Rudy Giuliani violated election laws in making false statements to Georgia officials.
