Four years ago, I published one hundred photos of one hundred yard signs. The photo series 99 Trump Signs and 1 Hillaryreflectedthe scant enthusiasm for Hillary Clinton and the very many yard-signs in support of Donald Trump in my local area. It also reflected my anxiety about the then-looming 2016 election.
In this strangest of years, I decided to repeat the methodology and gauge political preferences through the visible lawn signs my area of the Hudson Valley, NY.
I later collected the century of images from 2016 for a self-published book and showed the complete series, along with staged self-portraits of me as a Maga-declaring Trump supporter, in a local exhibition titled Make Art Great Again.
At least my anxiety spurred me to create new work.
To my eyes, in 2016, the ratio of signs I observed and photographed was about 100 to 1. I ended my story with one Hillary sign which hung on a dead tree in the middle of a field and read Hillary for Prison 2016.
Still, I was as shocked as everyone around me when Trump won , with the polls all predicting a Hillary win but seeing all the signs around me prior to November, in retrospect perhaps I was not completely surprised.
With that in mind I am presenting a series of 100 signs for the 2020 election, exactly four years after the previous visual survey. What is the ratio this time and who will win? I have my hunch but without trusting the polls who knows. Let truth, honesty and just good humanity prevail. Go vote!

Trump Yard Sign Rigged With Razor Blades Left Town Worker Needing 13 Stitches
A town employee in Michigan had to get 13 stitches after he sliced three fingers on razor blades attached to the bottom of a Trump 2020 campaign yard sign.
The 52-year-old municipal employee in Commerce Township, about 40 miles northwest of Detroit, was asked to remove signs that violated a city ordinance, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Signs are required to be 33 feet from the center of roadways, and a political sign in the yard of a home was 9 feet too close to the street.
“When he went to remove one of the signs, he was cut by razor blades that had been attached to the bottom edge of the sign,” the sheriff’s office said. “Both signs removed from that location had several razor blades taped all along the bottom edge. He received lacerations to three fingers which required medical attention.”
Commerce Township Supervisor Dave Scott told NBC affiliate WDIV in Detroit that his employee initially thought he had been electrified and then looked at his hand and saw that he was “bleeding aggressively.”
The man drove himself to a hospital where he received 13 stitches in his fingers. Scott said he was angry about the incident.
“Why would someone set a booby-trap sign to harm someone? A child could have picked it up, he told the outlet.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident, and according to WDIV, officials in the township said they may seek legal action over the incident.

A man who thought people were stealing yard signs promoting Donald Trumps re-election bid shot multiple victims in Kansas on Saturday night, according to a report.
A police supervisor for the Topeka Police Department said at least three people were shot this weekend, with at least one victim suffering potentially life-threatening injuries.
The alleged shooter had confronted people about stealing signs for the presidents campaign, according to the Topeka Capital-Journal.
At least one victim was shot multiple times by the time the police responded to the incident on the 1300 block of NW Eugene, local news outlet 13-WIBW reported early Sunday.
The victims and alleged suspects involved in the case have not been identified by police. The Topeka Police Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The display, made up mostly of items bought online, has certainly gotten attention with drivers on Pond Road, who regularly honk at and taking pictures of the house, as well as occasionally directing obscene gestures in its direction.
Its a little annoying because people stop, blow their horns. But hes entitled to his opinion, said Andre Paul Bergeron, who lives in a house across the street and is a vocal supporter of Joe Biden.
I hope he doesnt get his way because well be in real trouble, said Bergeron, who views Trump as a threat to democracy.
That said, Bergeron also emphatically supports Gordons expression of his views
If you dont want to stand up for what you believe in, what are you good for? he said.
And Gordon’s home is far from the only one on Pond Road that’s got political signage out front. Yards along the street sport signs for Trump and Biden.
Asked how long he would keep the decorations up, Gordon said that he expected the president to win re-election and would keep them up for a period of time after Election Day.
Hes also purchased Trump ornaments for a Christmas tree.

That era had produced such an exhausting array of ironic paraphernalia that a placard of earnest liberal word salad hardly registered as a rich text. But over the past five years, as the sign spread across the suburbs, I found myself seduced by its chaotic jumble of typefaces, its lifestyle-blog-adjacent aesthetic, its sanctimonious final line and its curious staying power.

But one home in the Euclid St. Pauls neighborhood has cranked it up a notch with support for President Donald Trump displayed in bright white letters, 20 feet wide.
The neighborhood is in a precinct that voted overwhelmingly for Hillary Clinton in 2016, and is currently dominated by yard signs for Democratic candidate Joe Biden. One neighbor across the street displays a sign with a row of Black power fists in rainbow colors. Another has posted in their window that, in this house, we believe, Black lives matter, womens rights are human rights and science is real.
But the Trump sign, lonely as it may be, is by far the largest on the block, and perhaps in the city.
Oh really, I hadnt noticed, next door neighbor Maggie Hamilton joked sarcastically when a reporter informed her that the neighbors had painted the presidents name directly on their shingles.
Her husband, Kirk Hamilton, said hed taken a picture as the sign was being painted. It only read rump at that point, but the photo still made a splash with his friends on Facebook.
