Crisscrossing the country on a book tour that is in fact a proto-campaign blitz, he has been drawing enthusiastic crowds at each stopalong with gaggles of sometimes violent demonstrators denouncing him as a fascist and racist.

In particular, President-elect Donald Trump has a rabid fan base that seems unreachable. The reason is that Trump has inoculated them against facts.

Hes done this by giving credibility to tabloid journalism, fake news, conspiracy theories and Russian dictators.

More astonishingly, he has discredited our best newspapers, our best journalists, our best fact-checking organizations and even the institutions of media and fact-checking themselves.

So among Trump followers, the lunatic rantings of whack-job Alex Jones is true. Detailed reports, backed up by data and great sources is false.

Or, more accurately, any report that benefits Trump is true. Any report that does not benefit Trump is false.

Meanwhile, Trump is bypassing the very institutions that would keep his lies in check by and speaking to the masses without challenge, filter or context.

Twitter late Wednesday locked President Trump out of his account for the first time, the most punitive step the social media giant has taken against the president, on a day of social unrest and violence in Washington.

, blocking the presidents account for the first time for 24 hours for what it said were two policy violations, although it didnt threaten permanent suspension. It also said it was blocking his Facebook-owned Instagram account.

The social media giants actions were the strongest volleys after a year of heightened tension between Silicon Valley and Trump. They came after months of struggling to combat baseless allegations of a stolen election long stoked by Trump and his allies.

Trump belatedly called for calm on Twitter as the riot at the Capitol earlier Wednesday halted a process to certify Joe Biden as the next president. But his plea came in a now-removed video that was itself laced with disinformation, and he shared the message only after most of the mob had been pushed outside the building leaving a trail of online and offline discord in his wake.

As the mob of Trump supporters stormed the House and Senate, their compatriots online celebrated the chaos, cheering the violence across a wide array of social media sites and calling for bloodshed in the days ahead.

Trump Is Explicit About The Kinds Of Violence He Is Willing To Use Against Black Lives Matter Protesters

As Black Lives Matter protests swept the country this summer following the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, a key thread running through Trumps response was to call for and send in law enforcement officials the National Guard, Secret Service police, local police, US Park Police, and state troopers who dressed in riot gear and used a variety of weapons, from tear gas to rubber bullets. While he said violence was out of hand in cities, the protests were mostly peaceful, outside of escalation by police.

In fact, after Homeland Security agents were deployed in Portland in the summer, violent demonstrations increased from under 17 percent to over 42 percent, according to a report. Amid the unrest, Trump also repeatedly failed to identify and call out white supremacist agitators and counterprotesters who traveled to cities and towns and incited violence.

And throughout the country, Asian Americans faced violence due to fears about the coronavirus. Trump has repeatedly used a racist name for the virus, calling it the Chinese flu or the Chinese virus. Its one of many ways he has downplayed Covid-19 and cast blame elsewhere for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans, many of whom are people of color.

Catherine Kim reported for Vox that the phrase fits into Trumps pattern of xenophobia and pattern of deflecting blame. After a week of anti-Asian rhetoric, Trump tweeted, It is very important that we totally protect our Asian American community .

Trump is among the top world leaders who used social media platforms like Twitter to make several announcements. In fact, Twitter was his go-to platform to announce personnel changes or policy shifts, where he won over 88 million followers. Over the years, his proactive use of Twitter became a defining line of his presidency.

When Twitter banned Trump, his spokesman and campaign manager Jason Miller, said he would open a social media platform of his own. What’s more, Trump believes that he is likely to win his case. Going into the details, the former president of the US argues the Twitter ban on his account violates the First Amendment of the US constitution. Additionally, Trump mentions Florida state’s deceptive and unfair trade practices law and the new anti-deplatforming law are in his favor.

Furthermore, Trump argued that not getting his Twitter account would cause him irreparable harm. He claims his 88 million Twitter followers would also be harmed as they don’t have the option to receive his messages or comment on them. What’s more – Trump says his absence from Twitter would also cause severe damage to the Republican party.
