Trump Heads To Iowa As 2024 Chatter Grows
Donald Trump is sending the clearest signals yet that hes planning another presidential run in 2024 as he heads to Iowa for a rally this weekend.
The Saturday event in the first-in-the-nation caucus state is the latest sign the former president is gearing up for a third White House bid as he doles out midterm endorsements, hires aides in places such as Iowa and boasts in media interviews of what he sees as a glide path to victory in a 2024 GOP primary.
After it was reported this week that aides had to hold him back from officially announcing a bid, Republicans are viewing a Trump candidacy as a near certainty.
I think hes already in and hes just waiting to make it official, said one Republican who has spoken with Trump. His focus right now is on making sure Republicans win in 2022, and I dont think he wants to do anything that would distract from that.
At least on its surface, Saturdays rally in Des Moines will stick to that stated goal. Trump will be joined by several Republican officials who are facing reelection next year, including Gov. Kim Reynolds, Sen. Chuck Grassley, and Reps. Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks.
Still, the symbolism behind Trumps visit cant be ignored. Would-be presidential contenders often begin traveling to Iowa years before announcing their campaigns in order to meet with state and local GOP leaders and mingle with voters.

Is Trump Running For Presidentship In 2024
Trump has publicly flirted with another run for president in 2024. And because Iowa is expected to again kick off the Republicans presidential nominating process with its first-in-the-nation caucuses, his visit here is amplifying speculation that he could enter the race.
Trump easily won Iowa in the 2016 and 2020 general elections, and he remains popular among many Republicans here. This is his first trip back to Iowa since losing the general election to Democrat Joe Biden.
But other national political figures have been making early treks to the state as well, including former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former Vice President Mike Pence, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida.

CEDAR RAPIDS President Donald Trump will travel to Iowa on June 11, presumably to mark the lifting of restrictions on the use of higher ethanol blends during the summer.
While in Iowa, he also will attend a private GOP fundraiser in West Des Moines, according to Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Jeff Kaufmann.
We heard whispers of it, but we got verification just yesterday, he said. Its a little overwhelming, I will tell you that right now. Its kind of a good excitement.
A presidential visit is not only good for the party, Kaufmann said, but its good for Iowa to be in the crosshairs or the focus of a man that clearly has policies that reflect whats best.
So the Trump visit isnt just a win for the Republican Party of Iowa, this is a win for the state of Iowa ultimately the president of the United States decides which state he is going to travel to and he chose Iowa.

Former President Trump To Hold Rally In Iowa In October
DES MOINES, Iowa – Former President Donald Trump will hold a rally at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in October.
The Des Moines Register reports the rally is planned for October 9, and is likely to stoke speculation about a presidential run in 2024.
Trump said hed be back in Iowa during a radio segment last month.
Trump won Iowas six electoral votes during the 2020 election. Trump also won Iowa in 2016, flipping it from Democrats after Barack Obama won it twice in a row.
A Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa poll in June showed Iowans are split evenly, with 49 percent saying they view the former president favorably and 49 percent viewing him unfavorably.

A September Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll showed Trump’s favorability ratings among all Iowans are higher than they ever were while he was president. Today, 53% of Iowans have a favorable view of Trump and 45% have an unfavorable view. Another 2% are not sure how they feel about Trump.
Among Iowa Republicans, he is viewed favorably by 91% and unfavorably by just 7%. Another 2% are unsure. Those marks put Trump in league with Reynolds, who is viewed favorably by 90% of Iowa Republicans. And it surpasses Grassley, who is viewed favorably by 81% of Iowa Republicans.
The numbers come as Trump begins to reengage with the state that is expected to kick off the 2024 presidential nominating process for Republicans. He has personally reached out to Kaufmann, and his PAC has hired two Iowa-based operatives to join its ranks.

Will There Be Traffic Delays Or Road Closures Due To The Trump Iowa Rally
While Trumps rally at the fairgrounds will likely draw thousands of supporters for much of the day, Des Moines police arent expecting any road closures as a result, Sgt. Paul Parizek told the Des Moines Register.
Des Moines International Airport spokesperson Kayla Kovarna said the event shouldn’t cause any problems for people flying in or out of the airport. She said airport officials do not expect any impacts at the airport due to the visit.

Former President Donald Trump plans to hold a rally in the first-in-the-nation caucus state of Iowa as he continues to tease a third run for the White House.
Details for Trumps trip are still being worked out, but it comes on the heels of visits to the state by other high profile Republicans also eyeing a run for president. This summer, a steady parade of top GOPers have held fundraisers and political events in Iowa in an effort to support the party but also rub elbows with GOP leadership who will prove instrumental in the early presidential caucus state.
Trumps vice president Mike Pence, as well as his former UN ambassador, Nikki Haley, and secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, have all traveled to Iowa this year for GOP fundraisers or to address conservatives in the state. So too have South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, and Sens. Ted Cruz , Marco Rubio and Sen. Tom Cotton , fueling speculation they are testing the waters for a presidential run.
But those top Republicans and others are stuck in political limbo as Trump takes his time announcing his own plans. When asked about whether or not he plans to run in 2024 during recent interviews, Trump has demurred and said people will be happy with his decision.

Despite his dark message about the Biden administration, Trump was upbeat about Iowa during his visit.
“As disastrous as the Biden administration has been, no one can blame the great state of Iowa, because, boy, we did really we did really good here,” he said. “Iowa, what a place.”
He took the stage shortly after the University of Iowa scored a come-from-behind victory against Penn State in a game displayed on large screens during the rally’s pre-program.
“Hello, Iowa, and congratulations to the Iowa Hawkeyes!” Trump said, kicking off his remarks. “That was a big win today!”
His appreciation for Iowa extended to Grassley, who he said “has my complete and total endorsement for reelection.”
“We have with us tonight a great American patriot, a man who truly loves Iowa loves Iowa,” Trump said. “Hes a young very young guy. Hes strong. And hes very handsome. He fights like no other. When Ive needed him for help he was always there.”
Though Gov. Kim Reynolds has not formally announced her reelection campaign, Trump hinted an endorsement could come very soon: “I said, ‘Kim, do you want me to endorse you tonight or later?’ And she said, ‘Sir, this is Chuck Grassleys night.’ How great is that?”

When Is Trump’s Rally In Des Moines
Trump is scheduled to host a rally at 7 p.m. Saturday Oct. 9 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. Doors to the event are scheduled to open much earlier at 2 p.m., and live entertainment is planned, according to an online event posting.
The event is organized by Trump’s Save America PAC.

Trump Approval In Iowa Poll Higher Than When He Was President
Former President Donald Trump has increased his appeal with Iowa voters since leaving office, recently reaching a historic high approval rating in a Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll.
Trump is set to hold a rally in Iowa on Saturday amid increased speculation of a 2024 presidential run, but he’s unlikely to make any official announcement at the rally. The former president turned Iowa red in 2016 and while President Joe Biden is struggling in the state, Trump’s approval has increased over the past few months.
A new poll from the Des Moines Register and Mediacom found Iowans gave Trump a 53 percent approval rating. This marks the highest approval rating Trump has ever received since the Register and Mediacom started conducting the poll, this most recent rating was two points higher than the one from March 2020, which was Trump’s previous record high.
Trump’s current approval rating is eight points higher than it was in March, the last time the poll was conducted. Among Republicans, Trump is more popular than Senator Chuck Grassley, who has represented Iowa in the Senate since being elected in 1980.
“I did not foresee the day when Donald Trump would be 10 points more popular with Iowa Republicans than the venerable Chuck Grassley,” pollster J. Ann Selzer, president of Selzer & Co., told the Des Moines Register.
Both polls surveyed more than 800 Iowans and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

President Donald Trump will be in Iowa June 11 to participate in a tour and deliver remarks at Southwest Iowa Renewable Energy, LLC in Council Bluffs on Tuesday, June 11.
In his remarks, the president is expected to focus on the finalization and implementation of the year-round E-15 rule and highlight his administrations accomplishments for American farmers.
Trump is set to attend a Republican Party private fundraiser in West Des Moines later the same day.
A spokesperson for the Republican Party of Iowa told the newspaper Gov. Kim Reynolds, Sen. Joni Ernst, Sen. Chuck Grassley and U.S. Rep. Steve King will be invited.
President Trump last visited Iowa in October 2018 when he held a large rally in Council Bluffs.
Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds says she expects to talk with President Donald Trump during his visit to Iowa and tell him the state will need more flood recovery help from the federal government.
Reynolds also told reporters Tuesday she’ll tell the president his newly announced tariffs on Mexico aren’t helpful but that she will thank him for making a 15% ethanol/gasoline mixture available year-round and for approving Iowa flood disaster aid quickly.
Although Reynolds has aligned herself closely with Trump, she says she’ll be clear with him about her view that his planned tariffs against Mexico will hinder efforts to ratify a trade agreement between Canada, Mexico and the United States.

The former president is set to headline the “Save America” event at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines on Saturday, with other speakers including Iowa Representatives Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Ashley Hinson, and Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig.
Organizers have told Iowa’s Local 5 that they expect tens of thousands of people to attend the rally, which will take place after a Des Moines Register-Mediacom Iowa Poll revealed that Trump is more popular now than he has ever been in the state which he won easily in both 2016 and 2020.

The results mean that there is a potential subplot around the upcoming rally in Iowa. It is likely that the GOP will keep Iowa as the first voting state in the caucuses to find the 2024 presidential candidate, meaning what voters think in the Hawkeye state still carry huge significance.
“Even somebody that’s getting a 91 percent approval rating has to make their case for running for the presidency,” Kauffman said.
