Whats Behind The Fbi Swoop On Donald Trumps Florida Home
Whether the DOJ is no longer scared of the Republicans, or the January 6 hearings have changed things, Trump is the subject of a serious criminal inquiry
Its remarkable that it didnt leak. A story of this magnitude the FBI raiding the compound of a former president, executing a search warrant in connection with a criminal investigation is the kind of story that every well-connected reporter in Washington would usually have heard about. But the major papers seemed surprised on Monday night, scrambling to catch up as the story unfolded. In the end, the person who broke the news was Donald Trump himself, posting on his own somewhat anaemic Maga blogging platform, Truth Social. After working and cooperating with the relevant government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate, Trump said. They even broke into my safe.
Why now? Supposedly, the raid was carried out pursuant to Trumps improper handling of classified documents. The former president has long been dogged by accusations that 15 boxes of secret material came with him from the White House to Mar-a-Lago after he was finally forced to leave office in January 2021, a move that would violate federal codes governing the destruction or removal of such materials.
When He Appointed Ben Carson A Neurosurgeon Secretary Of Housing And Development

During the 2015 race to become the Republican nominee, Ben Carson stood out.
Sadly it wasnt for his incisive political nous but instead because he kept saying really, really strange things.
It got to the point where people were surprised to discover the man had actually qualified and practised as a world-renowned neurosurgeon.
So when Trump was elected, it came as an unwelcome surprise to discover Carson was being put in charge of a vital department, as secretary of housing development, with absolutely zero experience in the area.
Since then, Carsons been accused of trying to destroy affordable housing during his four years in government.
When He Oversaw The Longest Government Shutdown In Us History
Between December 22 2018 and January 25 2019 almost nothing happened in the US government due to the longest shutdown in United States history.
The reason for this? Because Republicans and Democrats failed to agree on the federal budget, mostly over disputes about Trumps immigration policy and his border wall, which still hasnt been completed.
To show you how hypocritical this whole situation was here is a Trump tweet from less than 12 months before complaining about how bad a shutdown would be for the military:

Edited A Video To Make It Look Like He Won The Nobel Prize
Nearly two months after the election, Trump released a bizarre campaign video, which parodied a beef commercial from the 1990s. If that wasn’t strange enough an image included in the short video featured Trump on the White House balcony with the Israeli prime minister and officials from UAE and Bahrain with a Nobel Peace Prize superimposed on it for no apparent reason at all other than to make it look like he might have actually received the prestigious prize.

I dont want to say, The election is over, Donald Trump said on January 7, 2021. Hed been given a script for a video statement on the events of the previous day, when, at his prompting, a mob had assaulted the Capitol in an attempt to disrupt the electoral-vote tally. The video was meant to calm his supporters and to reassure the country that the election was, indeed, over. But, as indicated by outtakes from the filming which were shown last Thursday, at a hearing of the House Select Committee investigating the events of , Trump wasnt ready to send that message. All he was willing to say was that Congress has certified the results it had done so at close to four oclock that morning, in a building still littered with debris from the attack. Hes still not ready: a week and a half before the hearing, Trump allegedly called Robin Vos, the speaker of the Wisconsin legislature, to demand that he retroactively take the states electors away from Joe Biden.
A criminal conviction in itself, though, would not block Trump from returning to the White House. There are good reasons that this is so: one can only imagine the mischief local prosecutors would get up to otherwise. In 1920, Eugene V. Debs, a Socialist, ran for President from a prison cell in Atlanta, after being convicted of violating the Espionage Act of 1917, for speaking against military recruitment efforts. He got nearly a million votes.

Opinionwhy Trump’s Facebook And Twitter Accounts Should Never Be Reinstated
But I have another theory. Its the thirst. Trump broke the cardinal rule of fame: He made it clear how much he wanted it.
Trumps consuming desire for adoration has always been both a feature and a bug in his glitchy wetware. It was a strength because his need for blanket validation freed him from the norms and conventions that bind most of us within the limits of self-respect. It was his willingness to say whatever would win him support and to care not one bit from whom that support came that placed him in the position to benefit from 2016s tragically peculiar election.
You cannot demand that people listen to what you have to say and have them do so unless the nuclear football is not far behind you when you say it.
The drawbacks of pursuing mass devotion are more plain. Inside those ill-fitting suits is a vast vacuum where the ego should be, a black hole that no amount of praise or exaltation can fill. This makes him do stupid things and believe even stupider things Im guessing From the Desk of Donald J. Trump started as a sycophant rattling a set of buzzwords to placate him, which grew into the kind of overpromised but barely studied premise that brought us, well, the entirety of Trumps presidency.
You want to know what the plan was and is, as apparently theres more in the works for the new Trump social media platform? Just look to Infrastructure Week: There isnt one.
Incited A Violent Attack On The Capitol Building That Left Five People Dead
In perhaps the darkest day, in not just Trump’s presidency but in the history of the United States, thousands of armed Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building in a violent attempt at a coup to stop Biden from being certified as the next president by the Senate.
The mob smashed through windows and doors and managed to make their way into the chamber as well as elected officials’ offices, all while Senators and others were locked away for their own personal safety.
The riot led to the deaths of five people including one police officer and came just hours after Trump had held a ‘Save America March’ outside of the White House where he had encouraged the crowd to march down Pennsylvania Avenue and make their presence known. Trump failed to immediately act to stop the riot and eventually tried to distance himself from any blame. The aftermath saw members of Congress call for Trump to be immediately impeached, whereas on social media, Trump’s Twitter account was permanently suspended and he was locked out of many other platforms to prevent any further incitements of violence. For all of the scandals that has dogged Trump’s presidency the image of his rabid supporters draping Trump flags over the steps of the Capitol, intimidating the press and overall posing a threat to democracy will be the enduring legacy of his presidency. The hearings opening up information of that day are only just starting
Well, that was exhausting.

So What’s Next For Trump Will He Be Able To Run Again
MIAMI – Here’s what you need to know about the legal significance of Monday’s search at , which comes as Trump is preparing for a potential 2024 presidential run. What happens next?It is still not known how off guard Trump’s lawyers were with the FBI actions taken Monday and what Trump’s team has been arguing to the DOJ about the handling of the documents in previous interactions with investigators.
Trump could take a pre-emptive legal step to challenge in court the way the FBI handled the search, perhaps with the goal of getting thrown out any evidence investigators had obtained or at least to try to get more information about what investigators in probing.
But without such court activity, the next steps of the investigation could very well continue in secret.
Can Trump be barred from running for president if he is found to have violated records law?
Another law that may be implicated by the FBI’s search is one barring the willful concealment, removal or mutilation of government records. That law threatens as a punishment disqualification “from holding any office under the United States.”
However, there are questions about the constitutionality of that law and its applicability to a Trump presidential run, if he were to be convicted under it.
The Justice Department has declined to comment.
Five days later, investigators sent Trump’s attorneys a letter asking them to further secure the room storing the documents, prompting aides to add a padlock to the room.
When He Refused To Release His Tax Returns
Trump had 5 years to show us his Tax Returns. The New York AG has to force him to do it. What is he HIDING? Show us https://t.co/UmjebxrQTj Peter Morley 1600014735
From the very beginning, Trump refused to drop his taxes. Why? We can only guess. But former lawyer Michael Cohen suggested it might be for a very Trumpian reason.
He doesnt report the income he claims, Cohen claimed during an interview to promote his book, Disloyal.
His wealth is not as significant, and I imagine they were probably lenient in how they took deductions.
He also said releasing the tax returns might throw up more problems for Trump.
His biggest fear is, if that tax return was released, theres a whole slew of accountants and forensic accountants that will rip through it and he will end up with a massive tax bill, penalties, fines, and possibly even tax fraud, Cohen added.

What In The Hell Is Wrong With Florida Gov Ron Desantis
OPINION: Floridas governor, a potential 2024 presidential candidate, has been on a proverbial warpath against everythingfrom banning mask and vaccine mandates and the teaching of critical race theory to suppressing voting rights.
I know I am asking a rather loaded question. But it is one for which I have been desperately searching for answers. Florida is off the chain: neo-Nazi rallies, anti-CRT sentiments, debates on banning books, bans on vaccines and mask mandates and attacks on voting rights and fair elections. But worse than the state itself is its young Yale and Harvard Law-educated governor, Ron DeSantis.
Floridas governor has been on the proverbial warpath against, well, everything. Yet, this man is the most likely 2024 Republican nominee, in my opinion. He is the new darling of the conservative right. Bold. Brash. A braggart. Hes has called teaching about the impact of race in American history crap. And he carps on and on about protecting freedoms and rights by attacking science, mask-wearing and vaccines as Florida has surged with COVID cases, hospitalizations and tragically, deaths.
DeSantis said this about critical race theory:
DeSantis has embraced the phrase Lets go Brandona euphemism for a vulgar attack on President Biden. He tortures Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the chief medical adviser to the president, by selling Dont Fauci My Florida merch and Freedom Over Fauci flip-flops.
When He Invented Three Million Illegal Voters To Explain Hillary Clinton Winning The Popular Vote
Nothing worse than a sore winner even though Trump won the presidency, he cant get over the three million votes which meant Hillary Clinton was the winner of the popular ballot.
From 2017, he promised an investigation into massive voter fraud, saying up to five million votes had been illegally cast for Clinton.
Trump has yet to offer any proof.

When He Nominated A Climate Change Sceptic To Chair The Committee Advising The White House On Environmental Policy
We cant say that Donald Trump doesnt take climate change seriously but we can say that he withdrew from global commitments to tackle the issue, once tweeted about needing a little of that good old fashioned Global Warming!, and nominated climate change sceptic Kathleen Hartnett White to be his top environmental advisor.
So, you do the math.
Legal Affairs And Bankruptcies
Fixer Roy Cohn served as Trump’s lawyer and mentor for 13 years in the 1970s and 1980s. According to Trump, Cohn sometimes waived fees due to their friendship. In 1973, Cohn helped Trump countersue the United States government for $100 million over its charges that Trump’s properties had racial discriminatory practices. Trump and Cohn lost that case when the countersuit was dismissed and the government’s case went forward. In 1975, an agreement was struck requiring Trump’s properties to furnish the New York Urban League with a list of all apartment vacancies, every week for two years, among other things. Cohn introduced political consultant Roger Stone to Trump, who enlisted Stone’s services to deal with the federal government.
As of November 2016, Trump and his businesses had been involved in more than 4,000 state and federal legal actions, according to a running tally by USA Today.
While Trump has not filed for personal bankruptcy, his over-leveraged hotel and casino businesses in Atlantic City and New York filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection six times between 1991 and 2009. They continued to operate while the banks restructured debt and reduced Trump’s shares in the properties.

Misogyny And Allegations Of Sexual Misconduct
Trump has a history of insulting and belittling women when speaking to media and on social media. He made lewd comments, demeaned women’s looks, and called them names, such as ‘dog’, ‘crazed, ‘crying lowlife’, ‘face of a pig’, or ‘horseface’.
In October 2016, two days before the second presidential debate, a 2005 “hot mic” recording surfaced in which Trump is heard bragging about kissing and groping women without their consent, saying “when you’re a star, they let you do it, you can do anything… grab ’em by the pussy.” The incident’s widespread media exposure led to Trump’s first public apology during the campaign and caused outrage across the political spectrum.
At least 26 women, including his first wife, have publicly accused Trump of rape, kissing and groping without consent, looking under women’s skirts, or walking in on naked teenage pageant contestants. In 2016, he denied all accusations, calling them “false smears” and alleging a conspiracy against him and the American people.

When He Blamed Mental Illness And Video Games For Gun Violence
As we have already mentioned, Trump has failed to do anything about gun violence in the US but in he did find something to blame mental illness and video games.
Speaking after a weekend where 31 died after shootings in Ohio and Texas, Trump criticised gruesome video games that celebrate violence adding that: Mental illness and hatred pull the trigger, not the gun.
The problem here is that one of his first actions as president was to scrap a regulation introduced by Obama that made it harder for people with a history of mental illness to purchase a gun.
