Is Trump Losing His Mind

Do Trump Supporters Tend To Share Any Traits In Common

The madness of King Donald: is Trump really losing his mind?

President Trump has cultivated a strong and dedicated base of supporters. This has prompted some psychologists to wonder if these voters Research suggests that support for President Trump may be associated with a preference for authoritarianism, a preference for group hierarchies in society, less contact with people outside of ones in-group, and feeling a sense of deprivation relative to others.

Trumps Final Days Of Rage And Denial

The last act of the Trump presidency has taken on the stormy elements of a drama more common to history or literature than a modern White House.

WASHINGTON Over the past week, President Trump posted or reposted lashing out at the results of an election he lost. He mentioned the coronavirus pandemic now reaching its darkest hours four times and even then just to assert that he was right about the outbreak and the experts were wrong.

Moody and by accounts of his advisers sometimes depressed, the president barely shows up to work, ignoring the health and economic crises afflicting the nation and largely clearing his public schedule of meetings unrelated to his desperate bid to rewrite the election results. He has fixated on rewarding friends, purging the disloyal and punishing a growing list of perceived enemies that now includes Republican governors, his own attorney general and even Fox News.

The final days of the Trump presidency have taken on the stormy elements of a drama more common to history or literature than a modern White House. His rage and detached-from-reality refusal to concede defeat evoke images of a besieged overlord in some distant land defiantly clinging to power rather than going into exile or an erratic English monarch imposing his version of reality on his cowed court.

Psychological Interest In The Trump Presidency

President Trump has defiantly flipped the presidential script, making chaos and deliberate combativeness the new normal of White House operations, manifest in hostile briefings, high rates of staff turnover, and cultural exchanges that appear aimed at dividing the nation.

There is widespread debate about the degree to which Trump should be held directly or indirectly accountable for changes in civil discourse, with some citing his rhetoric and policies as a spur to hate crimes while others claim he has been unfairly demonized by the press.

Millions of people around the country and the globe have expressed bafflement at the nature of the personality at the center of it all, and many are alarmed by tactics and policies that appear not only erratic but often retrogressive and undermining of long-established democratic practices. Chief among them is a well-documented distortion of facts if not outright lies about everything from crowd size at the inauguration to discussions with foreign heads of state.

Throughout his term, a large segment of the population sought to quell their emotional reactivity to the chaos of the presidency and to rationally navigate the civic, legal, and ideological battles that play out daily, from Twitter to the federal courts.

Americas Gerontocratic Voters Helped Put The President In Office But The Latest Polls Show Their Affections Are Shifting

If you had any doubt that America is a gerontocracy, considerthat weve been talking for three days now about the presidents uncertain gait as he descended a ramp at West Point onSaturday. On the following day, Donald Trump turned 74making him one yearolder than Ronald Reagan when, in the recollection of his son Ron Jr., heappeared lost and bewildered during a 1984 reelection debate with WalterMondale.

In 2020, as in 1984, cognitive function will likely play no decisiverole in our presidential balloting. Thats not, mind you, because Trump is ashoo-in for reelection . Instead, itsbecause Trumps opponent, Joe Biden, will be 78 on inauguration day next yearandhes a little unsteady himself .

Americas upper governmental reaches are remarkably oldolder, in fact thanthe much-mocked Soviet Politburo at the time of Leonid Brezhnevs death, when its medianage was a comparatively sprightly 71. There are a variety of reasons for this, including the aging of the Baby Boom and great health strides in recent decadesfor the over-70 set. But the real determining factor, I think, is that thevoting population is very, very old. In 2016, voters age 65and older represented only 15 percent of the electorate but accounted fornearly 30 percent of all ballots cast, thanks to their 71 percent turnout. In 2020, this cohort will represent nearly one-quarter of the electorateand consequentlycould account for one-third or more of all ballots.

Trump Has Georgia Revenge On His Mind As He Returns To Campaign

Trump Changes His Mind About Doing at Least One ...

Former President Donald Trump is on a revenge mission in Georgia.

After top Republicans refused to rig the states 2020 vote in his favor, hes already inspired one primary challenge to Gov. Brian Kemp, and hes endorsed another against Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. Wounded by two special election losses that cost the GOP control of the Senate, hes also trying to coax Herschel Walker a football legend in Georgia to run for the seat thats up again in 2022.

Trumps ire comes through in the emailed statements he issues to get around social media bans. Since March, at least two dozen have mentioned Georgia, accounting for about 12 percent of the messages Trumps Save America PAC has sent in that time. No other state has been singled out more.

As recently as Friday, Trump suggested that the “PEOPLE of Georgia should SUE the State, and their elected officials, for running a CORRUPT AND RIGGED 2020 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION” a response to the news that the Justice Department is suing the state over the restrictive voting law Kemp signed after Trump’s loss and that Trump has complained does not go far enough.

And at a rally Saturday night in Wellington, Ohio Trumps first since leaving the White House he took a moment to complain about Kemp and Georgia.

Donald Trump Is ‘losing It Mentally’ Says Anthony Scaramucci: ‘there’s No One To Check Him Anymore’

The former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci unloaded on his old boss President Donald Trump in an interview, calling him “worse than racist” and saying that he believes him to be in mental decline.

Scaramucci, a New York City financier, was fired from the White House in 2017 after just 11 days in the job following a profanity-laced attack on colleagues. He has since appeared in the media regularly, about the president and his policies.

But this past week the two men have traded blows publicly after Scaramuccialso known as The Moochcriticized the president over his recent visits to Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas, the sites of two mass shootings. Scaramucci said Trump made the visits all about himself.

“I think the guy is losing it, mentally,” Scaramucci told Vanity Fair. “He has declining mental faculties he’s becoming more petulant he’s becoming more impetuous. Okay, you see just by the way he’s sweating, his body’s not doing well.

“It’s obviously not a guy that takes care of himself, right? And he doesn’t listen to anybody. And just think about this, okay? There’s no onethere’s no Jim Mattis there’s no Gary Cohn there’s no one to check him anymore. Whatever my differences were with General John Kelly, after he left, this thing has completely unspooled.”

The White House did not respond immediately to Newsweek‘s request for comment.

How Did Psychologists Respond To President Trumps Election

Psychologists clashed in their response to President Trump. Many spoke out despite the Goldwater Rule: Psychologist John Gartner began with a petition, signed by thousands of mental health professionals, declaring that Donald Trump must be removed from office because he has a serious mental illness that renders him psychologically incapable of competently discharging the duties of President of the United States and later founded the advocacy organization Duty to Warn.

Others in the field vehemently disagree with the decision to diagnose President Trump. Psychiatrist Allen Frances, who helped write the DSM-5, argues that President Trump is a threat to democracy but one that needs to be addressed politically rather than psychologically. Diagnosing President Trump based on public behavior alone is inadequate because forces such as political motivation could be driving such behavior and that behavior may not be causing distress or impairment, he argues.

Donald Trump’s Hilarious Attempt To Suggest He Actually Won In A Special Election Loss

Analysis by Chris Cillizza, CNN Editor-at-large

The facts are indisputable: Donald Trump endorsed Susan Wright in Tuesday’s special election in Texas. He recorded a robocall for her. His PAC spent at least $100,000 on ads supporting her. And then she lost to Rep.-elect Jake Ellzey.

“Donald Trump’s advisers are angry at David McIntosh, president of the conservative Club for Growth, for persuading the former president to endorse a losing candidate in the special election for Texas’ 6th District.”

President Donald Trump Fires Back At Steve Bannon: He âLost His Mindâ After Losing Job | MSNBC

In July 2020, President Trumps niece and a clinical psychologist Mary Trump published the book Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man. She argues that Trump had no role model for vulnerability, empathy, and reciprocity, and that displaying those traits was dangerous in the familys household. President Trump tried to win his fathers approval throughout his life, which Mary Trump claims may inform the way he relates to certain world leaders today.

‘he’s Like A Bull Seeing Red’

Messing provoked ire from both sides of the aisle when she posted a tweet last week calling for a public list of Trump donors who will attend an upcoming fundraiser for him in Beverly Hills, California.

The “Will & Grace” actress’ tweet drew a harsh response from “The View” cohost Whoopi Goldberg, who likened it to the McCarthyism of the 1950s.

Trump had Messing on his mind as recently as Thursday, when he referenced Goldberg’s comments and tweeted, “Bad ‘actress’ Debra The Mess Messing is in hot water. She wants to create a ‘Blacklist’ of Trump supporters, & is being accused of McCarthyism.”

The president also latched onto another tweet Messing posted in which she praised a sign in front of an Alabama church implying that black voters who support Trump are mentally ill. Messing later apologized for “recklessly” sharing the sign and added that its use of the term “mentally ill” was “wrong & hurtful.”

Trump called Messing a “racist because of the terrible things she said about blacks and mental illness” and added that if the actress Roseanne Barr â an avid Trump supporter â had said the same thing, she would have been fired.

Barr was fired from her sitcom last year after making racist comments about an aide to former President Barack Obama. “Will Fake News NBC allow a McCarthy style Racist to continue?” Trump wrote, referring to Messing.

The actress responded by linking to a New Yorker piece this week that detailed Trump’s wild behavior over the past month.

Report: Trump Has Fully Lost It Wont Stop Telling People Hes Going To Be President Again This Year

What do former presidents do with all the extra time on their hands after leaving office? Bill Clinton focused on Clinton Foundation initiatives. George W. Bush got into painting. Barack Obama wrote a memoir, started a production company, and devoted time and energy to the Obama Foundation. Then theres Donald Trump. Never once accused of playing with a full deck when he was in office, the 45th president appears to have fully and completely lost his mind since departing the White House, the evidence being that he has apparently become singularly obsessed with overturning the results of the 2020 election, i.e. the one he lost.

While Dawsey and Helderman note that some advisers insist the comments about becoming president again in a matter of months appear to be just offhand musings, one might argue that when someone is actively trying to prove that he didnt lose the election, any suggestion that he might return to the White House soon should be taken seriouslyas indication of a complete and total breakdown. Even if Trump wasnt obsessed with baseless election fraud, the whole thing would still be deeply worrisome, just as it would be worrisome if Clinton, Bush, or Obama were heard musing about suddenly becoming POTUS again.

But indulging in insane lies is Trumps thing, like sailing and pottery are other peoples things, so:

Is Donald Trump Losing His Mind

Shattered norms: In just one year, has Donald Trump ...

Political and Pop Culture Analyst

Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States, appears to have achieved an impressive new level of madness. You would think that being Commander-in-Chief and Leader of the Free World is an all-consuming job, starting in the early morning hours and stretching well into the night. Between myriad pressing domestic and global issues such as the economy and fighting terrorism there should be little else that successfully competes for Trumps attention, right? Guess again. These days, rather than doing his job and promoting the interests of America, he seems more preoccupied with promoting Foxs television shows and Tweet-shaming everyone from Arnold Schwarzenegger and the New York Times to the GOPs Freedom Caucus.

When hes not heading off Friday nights to one of his many non-DC White Houses like Mar-a-Lago for a weekend of strenuous work golf, Trump spends an inordinately large percentage of his time soothing his bruised, fragile ego. This bizarre activity includes tweeting like a high school mean-girl holding campaign-style rallies in a pathetic quest for love obsessing over his poor treatment on CNN or watching the Trump & Co. publicity agency known as Fox .
